This Saturday, March 28th, will mark 36 years since the Baltimore Colts packed up and left town in the middle of the night. Jamie remembers that fateful night, and all the emotions fans went through afterwards just trying to get football back in Baltimore.

When a team leaves a city, the fans are never going to get over that!! At least Baltimore got a USFL Championship, Grey Cup, and Two Super Bowls after the Colts left town.

I often wonder if John Elway’s refusal to join the Colts after being chosen by them in the 1983 draft had a role in their leaving Baltimore.

I'm not from Baltimore, nor am I a Colts fan but those images from 1984 are surreal. I remember those cars, the way those Mayflower trucks looked, those haircuts on those blue collar people. I was 6 years old at the time, almost 7 but I remember. I also understand that woodsy area of where the complex is in Owings Mills has been built up with shops and restaurants.

It’s now the site of the Football and Lacrosse stadium for Division 3 Stevenson University. The Stars did move there while the USFL Lawsuit was being appealed, the should have moved when they were moving to Baltimore so they would have had a presence in the Baltimore area.

Wow! Thanks for the video. I was in high school, living off route 32 in Sykesville. I never realized it until watching your video that they probably drove right last my house that morning. I was not a huge fa. But never could support them Indianapolis… until Peyton Manning. He was and is such a nice guy and he had nothing to do with the Colts when they were in Baltimore.. I moved to Pa a few years later so never developed a fondness for the Ravens.. now I’d have to say I just like watching the best team win. Thanks again

Here's the difference: Baltimore tried to gfet a team when the NFL added two teams. They had the best offer on the table. The NFL awarded the franchises to Charlotte and Jacksonville. Jacsonville over Baltimore!. Tagliabue had a snide remark, and said Baltimore should use the money to build a museum. The only option left was to entice another team. Cleveland was awarded a team right away, and was able to keep the name and history. Why didn't the NFL do that for Baltimore? If they did not do that for Cleveland, they most likely woulds have tried to entice a team to move there.

I followed the Colts since '56. Used to sit by the radio withy Dad and Thompson would say, "The Colts are moving left to right on your radio dial". The Colts were totally in my heart. Follow the Steelers until the Stallions came to town. Do I love the Ravens? When the love of your life leaves you, you don't commit to the same level to the next that comes along.

Why? No other franchise had left their history behind. The only teams leaving names behind or changing them , usually were only in a city for a year or two. St Louis Browns being the only long term pre-expansion team I can think of , before the Colts move. The Browns only left their history behind , due to a lawsuit.

Worst case ever of stolen identity. At the very least, the name should have remained in Baltimore. Irsay did promise to return the name when and if Baltimore were to ever land another team either by expansion or relocation. The Browns move to Baltimore. The name stays in Cleveland. Modell asks Irsay for the Colts name. Irsay asks for a ridiculous amount of money. Doesn't get it. Baltimore gets a new identity. Indianapolis retains Baltimore's previous identity.

He would promise something one day, and go back back on it the next. he GM, Accorsi, said he had to talk to Irsay before noon, because he was usually drunk by then. Eminent Domain was a last ditch effort to prevent the inevitable.

@@adamdorgant9454 I can understand that on the surface it may seem that Baltimore deserved to lose the Colts in that they wouldn't build the stadium and Indianapolis did. But I can sympathize with the Baltimore fans in that they really had no control over the situation. And in terms of public relations, Bob Irsay's conduct was a disaster. By lying to the media and public he made himself look like the bad guy.

NO WAY I will ever acknowledge the Ravens, You have a team absolutely stolen from another city, A statue of a double murderer in front of your stadium and they had the guile to put it next to a statue of John Unitas. Then, they absolutely stole the Colt's fight song and just changed the words, then they went to Wembley Stadium in London and knelt for our National Anthem while they stood at attention for "God save the Queen". Knelt for the same flag that my dad shed blood for in WWII and my son shed blood for in Afghanistan. Yeah, keep YOUR Ravens, I'll pass.
