In a quest to find the source of his death wobble, the member doubletapdaddy on WAYALIFE.com filmed and posted up an interesting video clip and in it, you can clearly see his steering box pulling away from the frame rail and moving back in again as he turns his steering wheel to the left and to the right. And, while I'm reluctant to say that this is the cause of his death wobble, I will say that it can't be helping anything. Fortunately, Synergy has a solution for this movement and it's with their all new track bar reinforcement bracket and sector shaft brace. This thing is designed well, seriously beefy and you can be sure that once installed, any deflection you might be seeing in this area, will be a thing of the past. ADDENDUM: I spoke with Synergy after posting up this video and was told that they now have new instructions and in them, they recommend that you apply blue loctite on the two bolts that secure the sector shaft brace to the track bar reinforcement bracket.

Public Service Announcement for those that have the original design: There is a screw on the bottom of the aluminum block to prevent the bronze ring from coming out; however, even with this screw tight, the bronze ring in the aluminum block has a tendency of rotating (speaking from experience). If it does, there is a chance that your grease hole in the aluminum block no longer lines up with the grease hole in the bronze ring. A quick way to test it is if you apply grease and notice grease coming out between the aluminum block and the ring instead of the ring and the pitman arm nut, your bronze ring has probably rotated. Synergy has corrected this issue by designing a new aluminum block that has a set-screw drilled into the side of the bronze ring to prevent it from turning. They also have a new pitman arm nut design that includes rubber o-rings to help keep the grease in and foreign particles out.

THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge and these excellent parts. I purchased my 2021 wrangler about three months ago. Completely stock with only 11,000 miles it had death wobble. The dealership told me they couldn’t fix it, so I have been following your videos on how to solve this problem myself. After replacing the track bar (which helped), I found this video and decided to give it a go. This tightened up my steering and solved my death wobble. I can’t thank you enough. I can keep my Jeep now.

This video has been up for a while but I still wanted to say thank you! While the install isn't hard, your video made it even easier, like follow the bouncing ball... You have the perfect balance of showing the key steps and keeping it informative (like torque settings, etc) while not being exhaustive and boring. I may have to do that as well (my 2door JLR is being made at the factory now), but I am not upgrading to 37's until I get 5.13 gearing installed. But I plan on inspecting my steering on my 2020 before I make a final call on the bracket.

Great video, Eddie! I installed the track bar and sector shaft brace on my JK after chasing a dead spot in the steering. Two things from synergy solved and significantly improved the driving feel. These braces and I put a single plane tie rod end on my synergy drag link pitman arm side, which eliminated flop. Edit: I think synergy drag link now includes this tie rod end. What I had found was there was a significant amount of deflection when steering on the end of the sector shaft. I measured it with a dial gauge at the time but forget the values. The brace all but removed that deflection and the dead spot in steering is gone. I would highly recommend these products from Synergy!

Wayalife just a quick question in the instructions it recommends a 2” bump stop if I have factory track bar. My Jeep Gladiator Launch edition is already 2” lifted from factory. If I add 2” bump stop I have almost no more travel left in the spring. Is that normal, or should I not add the bump stop?

Before you buy this, try letting some air out of your tires and run them at a more reasonable psi. Something like 28-30 psi.

This video is precisely what my OCD was looking for. That free play is exactly what I was feeling with my 2024 Willys from factory, now even tho it being new, we all know “factory” is what it is. I feel this part with it’s quality construction will definitely give my “free play” a thing of the past(which is what Jeep should have done, bad Jeep).

Thank you for the well organized video and helped out a lot on the installation. For the JK people, there are some differences. The 4 main bolts that hold the bracket on are all the same size There is no nipple for adding lubrication You will need the 42 mm socket just for adding the new bolt. I believe the OEM is a 23...

Eddie, as soon as I saw you with the overalls on, I said yep there's snow on the ground. Got a pair as well and their great for working out in the cold. As for the batteries, I was forced to move mine inside and they work wayyyy better. I hope you both had a great Thanksgiving. Next project is heat in the shop.

Hey Eddie i was catching up on all the recent videos because I graduated from usmc boot camp. The gladiator grew up faster than jetlee (not that I'm complaining or anything). This looks like a vast improvement over the JK sector shaft brace. Looks well engineered and there’s no way for the sector shaft nut to come loose with this setup like it does with the JK brace. It would be great if Synergy could re-design the JK brace so it’s the same as the JL/JT brace. Nice vid as always Ed 👌🏻

Dave Schlossberg awesome work. We added a brass bush to replace the needle bearing like the JL brace and it works well. I really like your solution to the sector shaft nut undoing itself. It’s alot neater than what we came up with. Please make some for the RHD market aswell. Keep up the great work.

Vinyl backed fiberglass insulation is a small investment for days like today. :~) . To whoever built the nice shop. With a small propane heater. I'm a metal building estimator and just quoted insulation. lol Great video. When you think how the engine, transmission and transfer cases hold up to the abuse you guys put it through, I'd say Jeep does a pretty good job. More snow videos for us way down south Southerners.

You made install look so easy. Some others online have struggled with the sector shaft nut. I'm intrigued. Also hoping you do a video after driving. really want to know if you noticed any difference. Thanks.

Honestly, our steering was nice and tight with just the Synergy track bar, tie-rod and drag link alone. This brace was more like added insurance.

Great video. I was looking at this and asked my reputable local jeep shop and the tech said this part is more for pre 2018 rigs that had a different material steering box I believe steel vs aluminum. Anyway wanted to get your take as I have a Rancho front track bracket but it’s bottoming out on my axle. The shop recommended trimming the bottom of the bracket vs the synergy bracket and sector shaft combo. Note I do have a full synergy bar kit. Thanks in advance if youre able to chime in.

I would never pretend to know more than your reputable local Jeep shop but pre 2018 was a JK Wrangler and there was no need for this bracket. 2018 is when the JL Wrangler came out and originally, with an aluminum steering box that did have issues warranting a bracket like this. Jeep has since change the box to being made out of iron and that fixed a lot of the problems they were seeing with the aluminum one. That said, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "Rancho front track bracket" and it "bottoming out on your axle". To the best of my knowledge, Rancho does not make a relocation bracket for a front track bar. Also, is it safe to say that this bracket you have is mounted on the frame and you're saying it's hitting your axle at a full bump? Sorry, just a little confused here.

@@wayalife thanks for the quick reply. Pleasant surprise while watching another of your install vids. The bracket I’m referencing is the RANCHO FRONT TRACK BAR SUPPORT BRACKET. Sorry for the confusion. The bottom of the bracket has a rounded edge on one side and a more squares off 90 degree on the other. The 90 degree flat side, specially the corner is bottoming out on the base of the sprint mount just lightly above the stock axle of my jt. So the shop said just trim it so it’s out of the way and no need to upgrade to synergy bracket. I hope that makes sense.
