Carried off the Field How the Nitto Jeep Dirt Experience Came to a Premature End for Us

For those of you who've been following all the fun that Cindy and I had wheeling our Jeep Wrangler across New Mexico and Arizona on the Nitto Dirt Experience presented by KMC Wheels, you've probably been wondering, whatever happened to Moby? In the very first scene of Part 1, you saw him in a cloud of dust, struggling to keep his engine running and then, not a word about it. Well, it wasn't until day 4 on our our trip that things started to fall apart on us and in this video, you'll get to see what ultimately got him loaded up on a trailer and carried off the field.
For the first time in almost 20 years, Cindy and I did not get to spend the first week of November in Las Vegas, Nevada, like we always do and to cover all the cool new parts, accessories, wheels and tires being made for the Jeep JL Wrangler and JT Gladiator. I am of course talking about the world famous SEMA Show and just like everything else in this crazy dumpster fire of a year, the show got cancelled. Fortunately, not all was lost and all thanks to Nitto as they decided to hold their 10th Annual JK-Experience on that week instead. And, as luck would have it, we were invited to join in on the fun! Presented by KMC Wheels, this awesome adventure would start in Las Cruces, New Mexico and take us all the way to Barstow, California almost 800 miles to the west and loosely following the original route of the very first JK-Experience.
PARENTAL ADVISORY: Please be advised that there is some minor, un-edited swearing in this video.

Thanks for making great videos and series. I especially enjoyed this one as well. Sorry to see the frustrations. Hope to see more. 1 question. Are you happy with the Dana UD60s on the gladiator? Or would you buy Dynatrac if you did it again? Thanks!
@wayalife
@wayalife 3 жыл бұрын
Truth be told, Dynatrac makes a premier axle and I can't say anything bad about them. That being said, I'd be lying if I said the UD60 wasn't holding up well to the abuse we put it though and for the cost savings and ability to get them so quickly, it'd be hard for me not to consider them again.

Hey Eddie. Where was that wiring harness making contact to? I have an identical problem and I have been inspecting the wiring harness and seems to be ok so far. Just curious which wiring harness was making contact with what hot metal. Thanks and glad you were able to solve the problem. Took mine to 2 dealers and after a month on each dealer, they were unable to find the issue.
@wayalife
@wayalife 3 жыл бұрын
Is it safe to assume you have a 6.2L LT? If so, the wiring harness going to the GM ECM was routed under the fender to give the engine bay a clean look. There was a metal tab that it was rubbing against and that was causing a short.
@Mr.Guinness
@Mr.Guinness 3 жыл бұрын
@@wayalife Definitely not a 6.2L😩. Dealers keep telling me is electrical, they just don't know where is the issue. I replaced TPIM, ECM, TCM. But your video helped out because it has almost identical symptoms and now I can focus on finding the electrical damage . Thank you 👍
@wayalife

Did they check the sending unit? Ultimately, the short I was getting was fuel related and before the chaffed wire was found, we were looking at the sending unit and fuel pressure.

Honest question. Im looking to swap a jk and i hear alot of issues with getting the gm computer to talk with the chrysler and constant attention required for tune. Would i be better off spending a lil more money on a 392 hemi swap hear its a really reliable swap vs ls??? Or just buy a new 392??
@wayalife
@wayalife 3 жыл бұрын
So, aside from the problem we had with the wiring harness getting cut through, we haven't had any problems with our new 6.2L LT. Motech now has a single module system and it completely eliminates the Chrysler computer. Buying a new 392 would be a nice way to go and better than swapping in a HEMI but you wouldn't get the kind of modern technology you get with an LT and or a 10-speed automatic.

I personally wouldn't recommend it if only because every single one I have seen has issues with overheating on the trail. I suppose the benefit of buying a 392 is that you can finance it.
