indonesian have chinese ancestry, because chinese are originals of all asian ,indonesian are part of that branch aswell as most ppl in south east asia even as far as south or west asia and pacific islands you can also tell by thei features in some of them even if their blended ancestry.. chinese have also traveled un africa thousands of years ago thats how some african tribe called the khoi san look a little east asian because they have some chinese genetics .

Madagascar was historically settled by austronesians, similar to people from Indonesia and the Philippines. The locals are a mix between bantu africans and austronesian populations so his results make total sense.

Although, it is peculiar that they settled in all these places, even ranging as far as Africa but not in Australia despite the proximity.

it really depends of where you are from in madagascar, madagascar has 18 different ethnic groups and malagasy people from the coast are more bantu than asian, which means they are litteraly jjust black, but malagasy people from the center are the ones that really have a asian mix.

The answer is Asia (a continent) and then it is clarified that his ancestry comes from South-East Asia (a region) namely Indonesia (a country) thousands of years ago. Then it is updated with how 300 years ago Keenen's ancestry goes back to Madagascar. It was never once said that he lacked African DNA or that Madagascar was not part of Africa. So what really perplexes you here? Because you seem to be easily confused by your inability to listen and understand what is being said.

This is wrong. We Malagasy ARE African and we are proud of our roots. Keenan is EXACTLY what Malagasy people look like. I have tons of family that look like him. A mix of Black and Asian. He’s as African as you can get.

Its not the WHOLE truth...but truth is part of it. My maternal bloodline is also malagasy. Madagascar and the new world was not a one stop deal for that. Madagascar Africans were ported from there to the west african ports (Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, etc) where we were further mixed. The English 'Carters' (our slavemaalster who owned my new world ancestors in Virgina were in competition with other slaveowners who import strictly from west africa. And there was blood mixing from that point.

They're not saying that Madagascar isn't in Africa, but its people are a mix, including a people group that came from South East Asia and migrated hundreds of years ago to Madagascar. Correction for a common misconception to Westerners: Chinese are East Asians. Not Southeast Asia. Southeast Asians are Austronesian-Polynesian ppl and probably have more genetic similarities with the Indigenous ppl of Hawaii than the Mongoloids (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Mongolia) Yes, we do have many ethnic Chinese here in Southeast Asia, but they're all product of recent immigration during the 19th century brought in by the ruling European colonizers at the time as labours. Prior to that, they're merely just visiting traders and merchants. Later in the 20th century, they became naturalized citizens of their respective newly independent Southeast Asian country (Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, etc). But definitely NOT Indigenous to the lands like their fellow compatriots of Austronesian race/ethnics (Malay, Bugis, Javanese, Iban, Kadazan-Dusun, Orang Asli, etc)

All Malagasy people have mixed African and Asian ancestry. The Malagasy ethnicity describes people of the island who display mixed African, Indonesian, and Arab ancestry, so it's not very specific, and not all researchers like using that term.

Most don't also know that the East coast many of the states you mentioned Virginian, Boston, Massachusetts was also where South Asian indentured slaves were taken and they eventually mixed in with black Americans. There was a story of Martha Dove petitioning for freedom because her grandmother was an a East Indian-Indian they didn't say south Asian back then so they repeated Indian twice. Black Americans have more Asian DNA than we think depending on the region we come from Mae C Jemison is 13% Chinese due to Chinese laborers being brought over in the 1800s same with the Jackson family. Katherine Jackson was supposedly 25% due to her grandfather. She looks very Asian.

Virginia and South Carolina are where many Malagasy’s arrived as slaves. We cultivated Carolina Gold Rice because the whites there didn’t know how to grow it properly in the marsh. We Malagasy are rice pattie experts as this is a main staple of our diets and introduced this to them. Many Malagache still remain in the mid Atlantic region, circa Washington DC, to this day.

Yes we do. It does depend on how one presents but if so, absolutely. In America, the one drop rule is prevalent, so if you look black in any way shape or form, you would be labeled as black. The Malagasy who do look black or mixed blasian, do consider themselves black. The more asiatic looking ones are hit or miss depending on what their particular lineages are.

This is really funny. I am of Indonesian and Dutch ancestry (known as Dutch Indo to people familiar with the history of the Dutch East Indies). In my twenties, many people said I resembled Keenan Ivory Wayans, which I thought was funny, but I did see it. Now I know why and it makes sense. Not quite Chinese (although there is Chinese-Indonesian in my lineage), as Mr. Wayans states, but Southeast Asian for sure. Mr. Gates is correct as research shows that Indonesians initially sailed to Madagascar 1500 to 2000 years ago. Not all Asians are Chinese as is often expressed by non-Asians, but I get the humor that KIW is conveying.

I come from madagascar i ve heard this story that the last queen of madagascar and their surrounding in that time was shiped to America some in France to sell as a slaves after France started to colonize madagascar and when they came to America they forced to marry a black slave from Africa to have kids together cause that time they were not allowed to marry other races mostly white so they have to breed with African like them even though they are indonesian but come from madagascar which is in Africa.

Keenan’s paternal line is Asian Period. With a small % Madagascar which probably came from migration. More Black people need to do their DNA tests, and compile their family tree and stories. I’d bet many would be as surprised as Keenan was.

They didn’t mention the vast majority of his paternal lineage, either. Y-DNA is such a small part of someone’s DNA, only 1% of it, and it doesn’t even represent the vast majority of his male ancestors’ Y-DNA haplogroups, either. It’s only representing half of his grandfathers, a quarter of his great-grandfathers, 1/8 of his great-great-grandfathers, 1/16 of his great-great-great-grandfathers, 1/32 of his great-great-great-great-grandfathers, 1/64 of his great-great-great-great-great grandfathers, etc.

The problem is Gates's knowledge is not deep enough to understand Blacks in SE Asia. the late Dr. Ivan Van Sertima, Rutgers University History Professor, and the late Dr. Runoko Rashidi wrote a book entitled African Presence in Early Asia, it would explain this easily.

Mines look identical to Australian Aboriginals with the same type of hair textures and phenotype. There are two types of “haplogroups” that people can have: Y-DNA and mitochondrial. Everyone has a mitochondrial haplogroup, and, in addition to that, men also have a Y-DNA haplogroup. The Y-chromosome and mitochondrial DNA only make up a very tiny portion of someone’s total DNA, and therefore only represent a tiny portion of someone’s total ancestry, which would be better represented by an analysis of autosomal DNA, which is what most DNA-testing companies do, but some people love haplogroups because they’re the only bits of DNA that don’t go through recombination when sperm meets egg (although they do go through unique mutations every once in a while), and that makes it easier to trace ancient migrations.

This is some of the dumbest shit Ive ever read. DNA tests do not trace back to the origins of man otherwise everyone (including those who were the palest of pale) would originate from east africa. The percentage DNA tests only take into account the last 500 or so years, and deep dna analysis no more than a few thousand years, well after people migrated out of africa
