As you know i'm a HUGE FAN OF ALL KEI CARS but in my opinion the vans are the most complete kei. I feel like i don't show enough Subaru's on my channel so in this video I wanted to test drive one on the streets and highway along with going over about 5+ Subaru Sambar Kei Vans and trucks and comparing them all from top to bottom!

KV3=rwd, KV4=4wd. Sambar vans drive best because of the independent suspension on all four corners and good weight distribution with the engine in the back. Also, remove the rear headrests and the rear seats fold perfectly flat into the floor. Front swivel seats are also an option, albeit rare. As for the speedo marks - those are the redline points for each gear. And yes you need to drive a supercharged Dias, has extra 10hp, speed sensitive electric power steering, and higher torque that peaks at 3800rpm and stays pretty flat instead of peaking and dropping like on the carbed ones. There's a 3rd engine option too, non supercharged fuel injected, it replaced the carbed one in late 1995. That dark green classic that's being serviced should have it - the giveaway is the moustache shaped rear chrome garnish.

I always wonder why don't they make a van with similar features (rear mounted engine, two sunroofs, excellent visibility etc) but much larger. A full size Subaru Sambar XXXL for EU and NA markets.

I don't have a legitimate justification but I'd love to own a 4WD kei van. So cute and clever, with so much usable space. I just got back from breakfast and saw several people checking out my old 1996 Hijet in the parking lot and got two enthusiastic thumbs up on the short trip home. It'll probably get more attention after I paint it, lift it, new tires, LED light bars, ammo can tool boxes, etc.

I think everyone gets a kei truck first then realizes a kei van is better unless they actually like the pickup bed. I have no use for it

@@Waybeforethefame - I had a couple of VW vans back in the 80s and used them as way under powered trucks, but I'm a truck guy. I live in town and only need a truck maybe 1% of the time, but for me, it's worth the limited cab space and other truck drawbacks to have that bed on the rare occasion that I need it. I can't haul small trees to the dump to be shredded into mulch with a van.

@@Waybeforethefame good thing I bought a van first a kv4 Subaru Sambar and it’s coming in a few months, I thought like the van is gonna be more useful to put things inside and I loved the sun sun roof, weird name, but I ordered it and maybe later I’ll get a kei truck but for now van is gonna be my daily driver.

Re Subaru being planted: being a 4 cylinder makes a lot of difference in terms of driving dynamics compared to a 3 cyl. The engine action is more even compared to a 3 cyl. A 4 cyl is also quieter than a 3 cyl. I don't have a Subaru or any kei at the moment, nor a mechanic, but I do drive a 3 cyl 1.2 liter cvt gas car, a 4 cyl 1.6 liter manual diesel car, and a 4 cyl 2 liter automatic gas car that's why I can tell :)

I think my 3 cylinder DOHC bravo drives better than the subaru but its DOHC. Outside of that yeah most subaru's being 4cyl drive and ride much better

I have a 96 DIAS II arriving from Japan in September, fully loaded w/ 5 spd, super charger and glass tops, it will be living on LI in Nassau county

Do you actually sell these? If so then why do you never show asking price? Seems you are in Hawaii, so it will cost a lot for shipping. Any dealers in the states that someone might see cost?
