Hard to believe he's been dead for 20 years. What's not hard to believe is he is still one of the best things in country music.

Exactly, I remember in 1959 when Buddy Holly was killed is when I first saw Waylon Jennings. When he hooked up with Johnny Cash and they started the Highwayman is when I really started following him. He's the best! I still listen to his music almost everyday. His songs has a lot of meaning and stories to them.

Waylon was once quoted...."I'm just Ralph Mooney's singer"
@tomforsythe70246 жыл бұрын
He was a critical part of Waylon's sound.
@mmetdker6 жыл бұрын
He was the main reason I listened to Waylon. As a fellow steel player, i patterned my style after Ralph Mooney's sound. Of course i was fairly unsuccessful. To this day I'm still amazed at his tone and his unique playing style.
@tomforsythe70246 жыл бұрын
My dad was a steel player, so I completely get it. Guys like Mooney, John Hughey, Jimmy Day, etc. were really influential on my approach to playing guitar.

I love Waylon, but this was taped in 1983, 6 months to a year before he quit cocaine for good on April 1, 1984. He had a massive coke habit and he was also smoking a lot of cigarettes. His voice was about shot by this time, as was most of the rest of his body from what I understand. So, in this performance he is not singing very well, and the usual energy is not there. *********** BUT, it is Waylon! I'll take him over anybody else, whatever kind of shape he's in.💖
