I grew up in a faith tradition that was always a cappella, and I think it's throwing me off here. Like, I didn't realize worship songs had "artists." And there was always a difference between "worship music" and "Christian music." So something like the Sonicflood song would be a Christian song with an artist, while something like _Shout to the Lord_ would just be a worship song (that maybe would have a particular performer, if there was a recording of it).

Darlene Zschech was in Hillsong. Hillsong definitely was around in the nineties. I knew all of these songs. I grew up in the early 2000s although I was born in the early 90s. I didn't start going to church regularly until 2000 the year I got saved. @@NicholasReguin "United We Stand" was definitely an iconic album for Hillsong UNITED, which was originally supposed to be the younger version of Hillsong Music (now known as "Hillsong Worship"). And yes, when that one came out, the world really began to listen. But I feel like the 90s team don't really get the credit they deserve for paving the way for today's Hillsong teams.
@desertfoxtim
@desertfoxtim Жыл бұрын
@@DavidJ1943 To me, the core of the 90's team was Russell Fragar, their Worship Pastor and Music Director. You can really see his amazing arrangements from the orchestra to the band instruments to the backup vocalists, he was a genius. When he left his post and Darlene Zschech succeeded him in 2001, the arrangements became more modern and they eventually stopped using an orchestra (in 2004's For All You've Done) and it's just the band instruments plus choir. I would say though that my favorite lineup was when Marty Sampson was still around (1999-2008) and coincidentally that's when HIllsong's songs kinda sound the same.
@DavidJ1943
@DavidJ1943 Жыл бұрын
@@desertfoxtim Oh yeah, Russell definitely gave that Hillsong sound I and my family love so much! And of course, it wasn't musically the same in the 2000s when he left, but you gotta admit, Hillsong albums from 2000 to 2003 had some pretty solid stuff too. Mainly because we still had some of the 90s songwriters like Reuben Morgan holding the fort with their pens. And even in the later 2000s, there was always that ONE song in a project that had those really nice chords and stuff. For example, in their 2006 album "Mighty To Save", the songs were mostly standard modern worship, right? But remember that one song called "More To See", where only the ladies of Hillsong sang together? That one was pretty good.

Wally would normally represent me on these videos but my heart broke at 1:33 “Who knows that” to Darlene and at 13:00 “Hillsong was a thing in the 90s?” ... Come on, man! 😂 I heard most of these songs in the baptist church here in the north of Mexico in the latest ’90s and early 2000s. Christian people (we would normally call them “Americanos”) would come from the US and do a lot of activities in the church like biblical school for kids, and social work (building houses, cleaning places, etc.) They built the first house that I lived in (not only mine but also did it for multiple families). Later on, I was gifted a CD of Hillsong Worship which became my favorite band. I grew up in this baptist church and ever since I left I haven't forgotten those days. I miss my childhood so much! So many memories.

I'll admit, some of the songs were a bit unexpected to me, mainly because every song on this list, as they were birthed in the 90s, made their mark on the world by the 2000s. Since then, everybody and their churches started covering them one way or another, and the cover versions seemed to make more of an impact than the originals, in a sense. ***Oh, and HUGE props to WayNation for mentioning Darlene Zschech and the Hillsong Team of the '90s! The world needs to know that Hillsong wasn't born yesterday (cough-cough "Wally") haha :) On that note, here's what stood out to me (and yes, another spoiler alert session lol): 1. "Old-man" Wally not knowing who Darlene Zschech is and "young" Colton knowing at 1:31 (That was unexpected lol) 2. Betty seriously concerned with Joy's charade skills at 1:58 3. Bekah's frustration dance at 3:14 (She's done it in other vids too. Gets me every time!) 4. Wally going off about Smitty's raspy voice, beginning at 5:23 onward. (I was like, woah shaaade haha) 5. Wally taking the initiative with the bell at 7:00 6. Joy taking UK's Martin Smith and placing him in Australia at 7:40 (LOL) 7. Wally exposing the Body of Christ at 8:15 (I mean hey, that song WAS the bomb growing up!) 8. Betty with her make-believe group, beginning at 9:04 (how she got "Point of Grace" from "The Dove People" I'll never know.) 9. The fast-forward edit for Round 8 (10:30 onward) 10. Betty's "Mac Powell (or it may as well be Elvis)" impersonation and Joy's "You. Can't. Be. Serious." reaction at 12:39 11. Wally's "That-One-Cringy-Youth-Group-Member" dance at 12:43 12. Betty's "That-Other-Cringy-Youth-Group-Member" dance at 13:19 13. Wally seeing his dinner on fire at 13:54 14. Bekah's world-domination villain laugh at 14:24 15. Betty literally "killing it" with her harmonies, beginning at 15:11 onward BONUS FACT: THEY KEPT GUESSING MICHAEL W. SMITH THROUGHOUT THE GAME! And the ironic thing is, he didn't even release a worship album until 2001 lol! (And no Betty, Plus One is NOT a '90s worship band! They were a Christian BOY BAND from the early 2000s lol.) I know this was too long but anyway, thanks WayNation Team again for the laughs and the trip down memory lane. I enjoyed it :)

I had a radio show in college in the late 90s and probably played some version of every one of these (the Insyderz version of Shout to the Lord was fantastic). Ah, those were great times. (P. S. I loved how everyone kept guessing Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant when they didn't know, as if those were the only 2 worship singers of the 90s 😂.)

I actually just listened to Agnus Dei Doxology a couple days ago, and I really liked it. It is such a beautiful song. It's very similar to an anthem that we sing in our church, (it's not a praise and worship version, just so you know), and it's in Latin. We sing it every Lent and Holy Week.

Wally’s screen shaking on his Sandy Patty guess and the producer going “Ut’s definitely dead” were quality moments. 😂 I really want Joy and Bekah to have Betty on their Holy Mess podcast. Just the three of them would be a blast. And they could talk to Betty about her battle with anxiety, because I’ve been wanting to hear her talk more about that.

The songs they guessed are: "I Want to Know You" by Sonicflood (I downloaded the MP3, of that song from Amazon in 2019!), "Shout to the Lord" by Darlene Zschech (Found this song, over 2 months ago and, i liked this version but, i do like Mark Schultz version, a lot better, it's from my childhood, i remember it from WOW Worship (Yellow) Disc 2!, "You Are My King (Amazing Love)" by Newsong (It's actually from 2003!, i have this version, on my More Life CD from 2003 and, i like this song, among others, and the More Life CD, both!, and, i also like Newsboys version of this song, as well., "You Are My All in All" Maranatha Music, Yes, love this one along with Nichole Nordeman's version from WOW Worship (Yellow) Disc 1, "Shout to the North" by Delirious? (Another great worship song, from the 90's.), "Days of Elijah" by Twila Paris, "Agnus Dei" by Third Day (Love, Third Day's music, gotta, love this one.), "My Redeemer Lives" by Hillsong Worship, and "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High" by Petra (cause, i loved their song, "Grave Robber" my grandma's favorite song but, sadly she passed away, last month but, i'll remember this one.
