Walter Gretzky boy. What a great human being. I remember meeting him in the mid 90’s in Brantford. We played in the Walter Gretzky tournament. That man made a point of showing up to each an every game, greeting parents greeting kids. We’re talking A level hockey here. 25 years later I took my stepson to Walters tournament and sure as shit that old fella was there greeting these young kids and their families. What a fucking Canadian treasure.

The Gretzky's were superstars in Brantford, not just because of Wayne's skill but for how much they gave back to the city. I remember when Mama Gretzy's perogy recipe was printed in the Brantford Expositor, my own mom was so excited to try it! Walter was always willing to appear and help out at charity events. I went to high school with two of Wayne's younger brothers.

Just a beautiful memory about the true legend Walter Gretzky, I used to work at the McDonald's Wayne was talking about and Walter would not only stop in at least twice a day to pick up breakfast and food then drive to distribute the food to people, he would often stay for hours and sign autographs and take picture with people who were stopping in from all over Ontario for hockey tournaments and he LOVED to sing for the employees and regulars. Just a beautiful soul ❤️ That man, is loved by all of Canada 🇨🇦 THANK YOU THEO

Phil Hartman is also from Brantford, Ontario. As someone who was born and raised in Brantford (and still lives here), Gretzky was always such a big deal and the face of our town really. Even with me having little interest in sports and zero interest in hockey, he was always someone to be proud of and admire. With seeing this podcast, though, he appears to be a nicer and better human than I could ever imagine him being. Also, Theo ending the podcast with "you kind of scored all your goals on the ice" ... he never ceases to amaze me! I couldn't have enjoyed this watch anymore than I did.

I grew up in Northern Ontario and I used to watch all of the games, That team they had in Edmonton was stacked, that was some of the best hockey I have ever watched. I do not think Wayne will ever have an equal. He was an amazing player, he was also a great person off the ice and gave a lot back to the sport, maybe more than anyone else. My favorite moment was when Canada won at the Olympics in 2002 with one of the best teams ever put together.
