Mixing vocals is the key skill to have when trying to get your recordings to sound professional and polished. Knowing how to EQ vocals i an important skill but I wanted to use this video to take a look at a different approach I have been using lately. By getting creative with multi-band compression we can possibly skip the EQ! Check out how I mix this vocal in Pro Tools, but this can be done in any DAW including Logic Pro X and Studio One.

I'm new to the channel. Like today new but this is going to help me a lot. I just ordered my first bit of recording equipment last night. I don't really have the money to go to someone for recording, mixing and mastering plus I want to take the independent route so my music is controlled by me and only me. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me but it's nice to have information like this at my finger tips from someone who has been doing this type of work for a while. I've been writing and getting music ready for a little while just didn't have the money to get recorded or buy equipment. I'm excited to start this journey and can't wait until I'm able to make it what I do for the rest of my life. Thanks for providing the info and making it understandable to beginners.

I think you meant to say without using additive equalizing. I try to use both additive and subtractive. I usually use subtractive to get rid of any frequency that's going to cause the compression to work too hard, and then after I compress twice I'll add an Eq with color to add back some low end I took away and I might clean up any other frequencies.

Sorry for being difficult but I consider any EQ to be a bunch of filters and Multiband-Compressor is an EQ with bunch of compressors it it! However I loved the video! Compression IS the way to make the voice sound great

to much processing, try this... omni pattern mic setting...cut with eq...use vocal rider or automation(or at least use compressor)...parallel compress to taste...insert lil distortion optional. comeback and thank me😉.

this method for no eq only works for clean recordings that dont need subtractive eq of resonances. and not everybody can afford it or have the access to clean rooms. and the compression you show with automatic settings dosent help because we want to see how the attack and release worked on the vox.
