Finally it’s time to try a big log in the bandsaw - except there are a few obstacles on the way..
This is very exciting - after a couple of months on this project (with a lot of other things in between) we can try it out for the first time. I’ll be explaining in later films more about tracking and blades and the hold-downs and the coolant - because it’s all interesting stuff - but for now, I wanted to show you how this part went.

Really like the shop railway--makes a great deal of sense. And, adapted, the idea could easily be used to move small garden structures about if needed.

You know what I find a bit funny. I have never been to Ireland but being of Irish decent I have always dreamed of it. In those dreams I see rolling hills of grass and fields. I never pictured much forest there and it wasn't something I really thought of until you started this project.

I have seen other ones on here and real like the idea of the static blade and especially moving the wood to it I thank is away better .Grate stuf

Even with a mobile set up it would be very handy to have mobile track to bring wood from a pile to the saw mill

I thought I was watching "Shaun The Sheep" at one stage (my favourite cartoon). Congratulations on your success with sawing beautiful flat planks. I found your build and sawing experiments as exciting as Matt Cremona's, and held my breath 'til it was at the end - whew!! Brilliant videography with genuine farm animal participation ☺

You may have already added this but I think you need a water line to keep the blade cool. That wet wood probably is fine but on the dry stuff it really heats up. Love your channel ❤️

I would like to suggest checking your timbers with a metal detector before you saw them,couls save an injury to you or your machine. Great job.

Yes. Here we have Douglas Fir, Grand Fir, Alder, Big Leaf Maple, Ash, jack Pines, and Hemlocks to name a few.

Good job...can i make one suggestion...block up the small end of the log halve the difference from the big end..and you will get more longer boards and more footage out of the log..😊

Great job! I'm jealous. A suggestion: You might want to pressure wash the logs before slabbing them. You'll get longer wear out of your blades.

How amazing! Quite extraordinary. As others have said, to get that unit to track straight with precision is a great achievement. Thoroughly enjoyed your videos, I hope you have fun milling the timber. And your wonderful commentary and sense of humour was just brilliant. Lovely! Congratulations! I don't know why it is so, but here in America, we call those log stabilizer thingies you've built on the sides "log dogs". I would love to build a bandsaw and either a railway or a monorail because I have felled lumber all over my property, not to mention piles of wood chips, sacks of feed and bales of hay to move about. I think I'll need a log arch as well, but sadly I do not have any horses to help me move logs. Now to learn how to weld.

Nice job! If it helps at all. Cooks Sawmills puts out a bunch of short videos explaining how to set up and fine tune band saw mills. Very informative and free. Worth taking the time to watch. Covers alot of things pertaining to blade life and accuracy. Hope it helps. Happy milling!

you are certainly a crafty person! you definitely must spend a good bit of time awake at night thinking allot! all you need now is to be able to adjust your tensioners to accept a bigger log and a sort of de barking tool that follows on front of the blade!

When I was at University, the ladies in the cafeteria had a similar device. With it, the were able to cut ham, roast beef and turkey so thin, it had only one side.

Greetings from Central Oklahoma, USA. Amazing ingenuity, excellent build quality. This is only the second homebuilt system I've seen with stationary saw and moving log. You're producing a very good cut. Will you need a cooling system? Again, well done, sir.

I watched one video, then another and another..at first I was all wtf is he up to, then....this guy is a freakin genius ! A little less than safety conscious, ( untied shoelaces and a chainsaw?)..a minor glitch, very nice saw work.
