Have I introduced you to: color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/? If not, it's really really worth a play. It's a color wheel on line and help you create palates. Love this series! And you even taught me something new. What those things around the window in a color wheel are for!

Every day is a school day, and I'm glad that you've learned something from the video. I have seen the adobe colour wheel in passing, but I've never checked it out - since you have provided the link, I'm going have a mess around with it later. Thank you for sharing!

@@TheColourCave This video was incredibly helpful. Wow I need to get a color wheel like that. You could make the froggie green with a tan tummy from that brownish pencil

I get looked at daft when I tell mum that a picture spoke to me. I'm at the stage where I want to up my skill level but feel stuck going from sort of advanced beginner/intermediate to a slightly more polished high end intermediate, but it intimidated me, and the colour wheel helps immensely.

I’m new to this coloring thing.. well as an adult. I found out I still suck! But I think I’m trying harder now. That Color wheel seems amazing! Especially if they make ones for markers, cheap ones lol

Good Morning Gem, I have watched your latest video and I thoroughly enjoyed it, you certainly explained the colour wheel much better than some demonstrations I have watched on you tube, I must admit I don't use a colour wheel because I have a good idea of what I am going to use when I colour a picture, please would you put a picture of your dogs on the next video, that really would cheer me up, I love dogs and Cairn Terriers in particular. Thank you Gem From Kate in the south East of England x

Great info. I missed the first three so I have to go back. Thank you for this great info. It usually takes me 1-2 days to pick out and block in colors on a scratch paper of the picture I'm going to copy. OOOOh never thought of Pinterest. I will have to sign up for it. This is really a good video, someone gave me a color wheel but I have no idea how to use it, even after watching the video made by someone using the exact same wheel. Your explanation was much clearer. Thank you Gem! Have a wonderful day. :-)

Oooh, I'd not seen the quilting colour wheel with the holes in before, I'm a big fan of using a default colour wheel as a starting point. I also love Color.Adobe and find Design Seeds to be another good site which credits all photographers or uses original imagery. Great video Gem.

Heh, funny that I never actually used any of these methods. I pretty much go with what I like, though... I do have the complimentary colours in my mind, having learned a bit about the colour wheel. But... perhaps I should get myself one of these babies and try them out, might get way better results :)

I don't think they are essential, but for someone starting out who knows nothing about colour theory they are very helpful and also a great learning tool.

@@TheColourCave I think you're right about that, too. But even for someone who has been colouring for a while it might be a way to change things up a bit. Because I find myself going back to the same colours or similar colour families when I colour things, so I'll definitely try one of these methods, just to change things up 😊 especially since I like colouring floral pictures

Hi, I'm a new subscriber to your channel. Thanks for the wonderful content. I see that you have done some good work with PanPastel. I'm really keen to get my hands on them and wanted to get some advice on what sets are good to with. I have been looking at the Painting set and the Portrait set to see which offers maximum value for money. Any advice from your end would be highly appreciated. Thanks so much.
@TheColourCave
@TheColourCave 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, and welcome! I would say it depends on what type of art you like to create - the one with the colours you would use most often would end up being better value for money. From what I remember the painting set has a lot more basic/bright colours and the portrait set is more flesh/earth tones. I bought mine individually (I wasn't sure if I'd like them or not) and started with pale pastel colours for colouring page backgrounds, which is my kind of 'default'. Now I find I use the earth/flesh tones the most as I'm using them to create original artwork, and I tend to favour animals/nature. I'm not sure if this helps, but let me know if you have any more questions.

The Colour Cave Thanks so much. I generally do portraits si was leaning towards the portrait set. Also, have you tried mixing pans with white and black to get shades and tints? Do you find them chalky or dulled down if you use white to lighten the colours? Hope you can help. Thanks again for the prompt feedback.
@TheColourCave

I’ve mixed with white successfully, but in terms of darkening down I’ve only mixed on paper, (not with black though, I think that may lead to muddy colours) and again with good results. Good luck and I hope you enjoy them when you get them 😊

Hi Christine, I got mine in the UK from Hobbycraft, but you can pick similar ones up on Amazon - just search for a quilters colour wheel.

So with your four basic colors would you then need to pick highlight and shading colors?
@TheColourCave
@TheColourCave 7 күн бұрын
Yes - there are a few ways to do this, but at the basic level you would want a lighter and darker version of the same colour - eg, if you had a sap green, you could choose a dark olive colour as your shadow colour and a pale sage colour as your highlight colour. Hope that makes sense! (Maybe I should do a video on this too?)
