Can you spot the difference between a Grand Champion, Supersonic Legend, and Pro RLCS Rocket League player? I hosted a 10,000 credit competition on my stream to test if the community could really tell the difference between these very difference skill levels like they said they could.

You might have seen Rocket League guess the rank videos. It's something that's been done many times by Rocket League KZfaqrs. I had a theory that it's much harder to guess the difference between high ranks than it is to guess low ranks. I created this 10,000 credit kahoot competition to test that theory. You can participate along in the video to see how you compare to the rest of Twitch chat. If you'd like to participate in competitions like these in the future, follow my Twitter and Twitch! I always announce my competitions there before I do them.

It's an unfair test. This test is dependent on the region that the guesser plays in though. For Example, an OCE GC is better than an NA GC because of player base size, but an NA pro is better than an OCE pro. So an OCE player might look at an NA SSL and think it's GC gameplay and an NA player might look at an OCE pro and think it's GC gameplay. To make it a fairer test, you should get (for example) OCE players guessing on OCE gameplay and NA players guessing on NA gameplay.

I really could not tell the difference between gc and ssl, but I think pro play is pretty recognizable by the coordination between the teammates. They're in comms and practice together all the time, so like some of the passes are dead giveaways (or like one of them the player turned away from a nice ball when the teammate went up)

I agree, It's very hard to see if that player is just having a bad day or when they're making mistakes and also GC and SSL while being far apart its very very difficult because you have to pay close attention to not what they know how to do but how they do it and the quality of their gameplay.

As a GC level streamer, this hits home 😂 People always hop into stream, watch 1 minute of gameplay, and the the first thing out of their mouth is “there’s no way ur gc”. There are so many different ways to play and win in this game, you need to watch a player for way longer to really get an accurate gauge of where they are ranked.

I made GC1 for the first time last season and came to 2 conclusions: 1- The skill gap between C2 and GC1 is honestly non-existent. I run into equally (in)competent players in all 3 of those ranks and outside of more consistent rotations there's basically no difference in my eyes. 2- The skill gap between GC1 and GC2+ is MASSIVE. That is the rank where you need to start being mechanically/rotationally "perfect". So yall need to remember if someone brags about being a GC but they are somehow in your ranked game there's a *very* strong chance they are only GC1 and tell them that there's nothing special about that.

playing the game is such a different experience as opposed to watching it, it becomes a lot more difficult to determine the true differences between ranks. I think it's because when actually playing the game you really get a feel for every player's skill on the feild, but when watching it you don't get to interact with the players and compare yourself to them properly.

People always forget that the other people in the match are similiar skill level. So they compare their own skills to the players and think that the player's opponents are bots or something. Lately they are not playing good enough (twice top16 for the last minor...) so it was a little tricky imo. Nice vid btw but to be honest you should put only NA gameplay for the pros for EU fan it was easier to find the EU players or at least the team so it should be easier for NA fan to find NA pros imo (unless if it was on purpose to make it more difficult)

Ey Wayton did you pull stats on the overall pool of guesses? I'd be curious to see how it compares to random chance. it's kind of funny to me how much folks see stuff like this and apparently think the lesson to take is, "ah ok i have to feel out the best analytical framework for guessing rank based on tiny samples" as opposed to, "hey maybe i shouldn't try to guess people's rank based on tiny samples"

Can I just say that there is a video that I think striped did where pro rank guessers judged the rank of past Rlcs pros, and turbopolsa and other older pros got put at around high champ to mid gc

Cool idea for a video is to for you to play on other people accounts withput knowing thier rank and then after the match try to guess the rank

I knew it was wayton at 13:22 was because he was speed flipping around the field, and at the end, a pro wouldn’t have waited for that ball.

I think part of the reason why it’s hard to guess pros, is I only see them play different game modes online. And when I see them okay RLCS, I only see their pov for a few seconds or for clips like goals. So I guess I actually don’t know what a full minute of pro play looks like apart from videos like these.

I would definitely say (at least for me), that being a low ranked player definitely makes it harder to choose. Like, I probably couldn't even point out mistakes that higher players would notice. Still great video! 💚

I'm a Champ that lives on the C2/C3 border (both sides). Honestly, Champ vs GC is a pretty noticeable gap. GC to SSL is hard. SSL to Pro is...dang. It's huge in terms of skill level, but not in what most people see. Bear in mind that Lethamyr has lost Road to GC games to GC. He will never consistently do that, and his teammates factor in, but for mid-high level GCs, consistency is the problem. Champ is like a first degree black belt, GC is black belt 2-3, SSL is 4-5, and pro is basically top level pro fighter or grand master. I say that because telling a 4th degree black belt from an 8th is hard if they're not fighting each other directly. They look the same during floor exercises. That is, until the 70 year old Takyuki Mikami (then 7th dan, now 9th) is slowly calling out each section of a kick (up, kick, back, down by numbers) and effortlessly holding between numbers, and the 4th degree black belt head senseis of various dojos are struggling not to topple over. Guessing ranks for Bronze to GC isn't too bad, but it's difficult above that.

@@girhen i'm a gold and i've noticed that some gold gameplay can either look like silver or plat depending on the person LMAO

@@bladewave2544 Yup, depends on the play and what you look for as 'gold gameplay'. Some people rotate and miss more balls, and some have no idea what a rotation is but miss less. Pick your poison.

My guess is that many people have not watched pro players in scrims often, and instead see most pro level gameplay from the RLCS, where the camera hides much of the speed and decision making of players. There is also a large, and noticeable difference between high SSL and low SSL.

could you do this same video idea but with pros and ssl's because they are use to playing in these ranks. As a D1 they honestly all look the same.

It is true. GC+ is very hard to guess especially when you only have a minute to tell and you are not at those higher ranks and do not know what goes into being at the better rank
