40 years ago this year I was a 12-year-old kid at the Knoxville worlds fair. It was amazing. It was a once in a lifetime thing but at the time I didn’t realize that. I don’t know if worlds fairs are even still done anymore. I don’t think so. So it is an experience that another wide eyed 12-year-old boy will never have. I think Knoxville for having this. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. It’s an experience I would not trade for the world.

I definitely remember the 2 hour line for the Chinese pavilion. But it was well worth it. My grandparents bought me a Chinese harmonica as a souvenir. I still have it. Also remember drinking LOTS of Cherry Coke. Had a sugar high most of the day.

I believe a World’s Fair would be a massive success for the U.S. today. It would give people a chance to experience what they are all about. I’ve always wanted to go to one. Sad that it’s been 40 years now since the last one was held in New Orleans.

I visited the fair and very much enjoyed the day. The pavilions were interesting. I was only 16 and was there by myself but I still wanted to eat at the Sunsphere, and I did. My supper of prime rib was delicious. It was nice to have a World’s Fair so close to home (only a five hour drive from my hometown in western Kentucky). I was able to go because my dad drove bus charters for a company in my hometown and he was able to get me a seat on one of the company’s many charter trips to the fair. I’m still very grateful to him for making that happen. Thank you posting this interesting video. It brought back many fond memories.

I miss Bill Williams on WBIR as a trusted news source while a student at UT. They still use the old NBC peacock logo! This is a treasure finding a segment on the Worlds Fair. It’s an impressive use of a small downtown space on a sloped terrain site. It was overshadowed by the opening of the Epcot Center at Disneyworld in ‘82 which had a lot more room to place it’s pavilions. I’m glad Knoxville did not suffer the same big city problems.

WOKI in the upper floor of the old House that became the Budweiser Pavillion. Lots of memories installing the Control Room. Most people (young then) referred to the white Tents at the Amphitheater as "Dolly Parton's Bra"

@@kaylec4951 I was 13, but I don't remember much. I must have been super bored because I have a pretty good memory of my childhood. I remember getting a baseball hat with the logo. I remember the vacuumed pack milk. Not much more.

An entire hour dedicated to this one World's Fair and they somehow skipped the entire historical/primitive site. Good job, golf clap.

So I commented on another different video that at around 8/9 yrs old I remember the cool futuristic stuff. It fascinated me. So I've been hoping to trigger some memories. So far nothing specific. I do know my mom Bought me and my Sister a headband that had glitter "alien antennas" in the shape of stars and hearts. SPECIAL because we are from Huntsville ALA. One of the homes of NASA stuff

I just want to know and it makes me so happy how did we get chosen for world fair. I would image Atlanta or somewhere in South Carolina. I love it thought I love my city and that others in the world love it to.

The gvt literally raided Jake Butcher the day after the Fair ended and he was exposed as a big time crook. I remember tons of people losing tons of money because of him.
