It was a lot of fun getting to go the World Championship Blacksmiths (WCB) Winter Clinic at Well-Shod Farrier Supply in Amarillo, Texas a few weeks ago. If you haven't got the chance to go in the past, you should put it on your bucket list of clinics to go to! In this video I took a bunch of shots of guys building shoes and practicing for either upcoming contests or certification tests. On the second day of the clinic, they brought in some horses for the teams that are competing at the upcoming "WCB Classic" contest and we got to do a mock up practice go for the "Tool n Fullered" class. It was very helpful to have the judges there to score us as they will at the contest to see what we need to work on and to also see where we're stacking up against the rest of the field.
There was so much more I could've filmed that went on during the clinic, like Live-Demos from many of the top guys in our trade that went on inside the warehouse building of Well-Shod but I was consumed in my own practice trying to improve on shoes for the upcoming contest with my teammates and other top hands. As well as, the third day Riley and I were trying to sit down and do episodes for the @forgingbrainspodcast and couldn't be out recording away from that!
It's also great to surround yourself around like-minded folk that are trying to achieve greatness and be the best they can be in their field and if you're looking to do that, the WCB Winter Clinic is a great event to dip your toes in to get a feel for how welcoming everyone is in the competitive horseshoeing world. Everyone there is willing to lend a hand and help you with whatever it is you are working on trying to achieve.
