Just found your channel and what a fantastic find it is. Amazing to see full length trains running on an incredibly convincing scene. Would love to see a layout tour if that’s possible pl.

That big grey suspension bridge in the back ground is a structure that Brunnel would be proud of.

Many thanks! I can remember a holiday to Cornwall during 1985 and crossing Brunel’s Royal Albert Bridge and have always been fascinated by it since then; such an amazing structure. So well spotted, my own bridge is the Hornby suspension modified a bit and spray painted a similar colour as a nod to Brunel. 👍

Many thanks Richard … glad you enjoyed! The layout is actually in a shed in the garden (the latest video that I loaded shows a history of it’s construction) … I used to be like that … admiring other layouts … I didn’t win the lottery though! But luckily moved to a house with a decent sized garden and had a decent career (so far!) … and was able to build over time. Hopefully you’ll win the lotto and be able to develop a decent sized layout … 👍

THE best layout I have seen in the UK. Germans are the only ones giving us a real run for our money!! Also a layout displaying the fastest era in our railways when we even reached 140mph *in service* on some trains with many others at 130-135mph on many occasions before limiters. Also the variety and sidings activity was much more interesting. The railway today is one dimensional and sterile.

Excellent symmetry of multiple rail movements from a variety of angles, excellent layout and realistic speed. Also good variety of engine and rail stock. Good attention to destabilise and Very realistic leaving just enough to the imagination. You don’t need the engine sounds, the rail sound is enough to be honest.

What a an absolute credit to your modelling skills this is. Given its proportions and intricacies (that could be easily damaged), how do you keep the track clean as I imagine using a track eraser could be quite difficult? Subbed 👍🏻🚂
@ModelRailway
@ModelRailway 3 жыл бұрын
Brian Roberts Many thanks Brian. For track cleaning, I use a CMX wagon (with 99.9% IPA) coupled to a Dapol track cleaner (hoover attachment used), hauled by a Hornby Class 60 as it’s a consist that requires something with decent tractive effort. I’ve also converted all the wheel on my rolling stock to have metal tyres (no more plastic wheels) and I’ve also cleaned all the wheels using IPA. I do have a Gaugemaster track cleaning rubber but only used to remove any grubby muck and only used lightly to avoid scratching the surface of the rails. I also have a Woodland Scenics TidyTrack that has a long thin handle so can reach below the OLE. Hope this helps 👍

Hello, Fantastic work on your layout! Really looks great! Can I ask you, what catenery system have you used?
@ModelRailway
@ModelRailway 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dylan, many thanks ... I’ve used a mix of Dapol masts and the brass kit built gantries are from NBrass. I’ve then used Peco wires cut to length and hooked over each mast, then spray painted the wires Railmatch sleeper grime. Hope this helps 👍

A very impressive layout, prototypical train in a realistic setting. I do however have a question, having gone to all the trouble of putting in cantanery and overhead wires, wouldn't it have been better to actualy have them "operational"? There's to much of a gap between the pantographs and wires and to me it seems rather pointless and a waste of time doing all that work and having that huge gap, it de-tracks from all the great work, lets the whole thing down
@ModelRailway
@ModelRailway 3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks Mark. Yes, it’s on the ‘to-do’ list to pose many of the pantographs to be much closer to the contact wire to improve the appearance. There’s a few options for this, as I see there’s a 3D printing service for Bracknell Willis pantographs that maybe more robust and poseable (compared to some of the existing pantographs). The layout is far from ‘finished’ so is very much a work in progress and is a layout that will never leave home, so not an exhibition standard layout ... but very good point; hopefully by the time of a next running session video I’ll have some of the pantographs raised that will improve the appearance. Regards, Mark 👍

Can you show or supply me with the spec on the uncoupling ramps. Ive tried this method without success. Length width and at what point are they pinned down please?
@ModelRailway
@ModelRailway 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ray ... I use the clear plastic windows from the Metcalfe card kits. I’ve had a measure and the width is approx 12.5mm (so that it fits between the running rails without fouling the flanges) and length of 95mm. Using Code 100 track set to the manufactured sleeper spacing, the plastic is pinned to sleepers 1 and 12. I may attempt a brief ‘how I did’ section within my next video as I’ve been asked a few times about the ramps. Hope this info helps in the meantime and feel free to ask for any more info. Regards, Mark

@@ModelRailway thank you for your quick reply. I will have a go at them this week. Your info is very helpful indeed. How high above the rails do you think they should be? And do they interfere with the running trains. ie slow them down as they pass over
@ModelRailway
@ModelRailway 3 жыл бұрын
Happy to help and good luck with yours this week. The height is just above the rail height ... just enough to make contact with the underside of the tension couplers to lift them up. It does take a bit of trial and error ... from memory, I think I placed a thin steel ruler on top of the rails (DC power switched off!), with one end of the plastic strip pinned down, allowing the other to be manoeuvred into position and pinned. Then trial a couple of wagons/carriages .... so that when non-stop over the uncoupler, the plastic bends down while the couplings remain in tension ... but when the vehicles are stopped and moved together, the strip has enough force to lift the couplings. The strip being quite thin and pliable doesn’t hinder or slow rolling stock when running over it, so hopefully yours will work ok. 👍
