I grew up with these GM cars. Such awesome memories. These cars were actually very reliable, and super easy to repair, as well as drive them. No, you wasnt going to win any races with these Old Chevrolets Caprice/Impala/Pontiac Parisienne, But these cars were absolutely the best working class cars.

In the high end GM cars the 70’s and 80’s in was a feature in the cars to have waste basket! The base engine was a 305 - 5.0 or a 350- 5.7 if order , but I think it was 1 of the best designs of ‘79 Chevy Caprice Classic!
@sidgysoho1960
@sidgysoho1960 11 күн бұрын
The 350 was a rarity in these cars of 1979 unless a person ordered the trailer package. It was likely a 305 if not the smaller 267 CI V-8. I had a 1978 police Biscayne with the 5.7 (350 CI) Z28 engine and in 1978 that was nothing special.

The kick panel waste container was a part of certain interior option packages on Chevrolet Caprice, Buick Le Sabre, Oldsmobile Delta 88, and Pontiac Pariesienne cars of the late 1970s through the 1980s. It was also available most years as a separate option for most model years on those cars -- quite often the waste container was covered with carpet that matched the carpets on the floor. Back in the day, the class III/IV receiver hitch was often included on full-size GM cars that were optioned to tow travel trailers. I had one on my 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham Luxury Sedan for towing my 1978 Argosy Minuet 6.0 Metre travel trailer. My favorite car of those that you have featured is: First Wash in 40 Years: Abandoned Bonneville Barn Find Bonneville Disaster Detail!! || -- 1960s through 1970s Pontiac convertibles are a particular favorite of mine.

The trash bin probably was factory. My parents had a Cadillac that had the factory bin in that same corner. Of course Cadillac’s was more fancy - color matching and carpeted. This one fixed up with some black steel wheels and dog dish caps would be such an awesome dad car.

The white label on the fan shroud will tell you the engine size on the top left corner, if readable. Also that litter container is a factory option. It is common in GM cars of that era. It would be color coded to match the interior. This one must come from a black interior car.

In 1980 I bought a new Chevy Monza. The door panels were made of that crumbly plastic fantastic material, with exception of the tops of the armrests. After only 2 years, all that plastic began to fade and decompose, as did the rest of the vehicle. This Caprice has held up better.

7:38 in the Caprice Classic they were three engine options, there was the 250 cubic inch (4.1 liters) inline six with a one barrel carburetor, a 305 cubic inch (5.0 liter) V8 with a two barrel carburetor and a a 350 cubic inch (5.7liters) V8 with a four barrel carburetor from the factory, if that car has the original four barrel intake manifold it's a factory 350ci but there's people that might do something like I did, I have a two door 79 Caprice Classic and it was from the factory a 305ci with a two barrel carburetor and I did a four barrel intake manifold swap in my 305

That car was considered kind of luxury back when it came out. It road like luxury and very comfortable to drive. They were tanks when cops had them for cars. I know personally. Drove and worked on many back then in the public works garage I worked in. We even still have some old crown Vic’s we still have hanging around. The cops don’t want to get rid of them. Older ones are better than the new crap out. A damn shame.

I love the new look to this old Chevy Caprice, the one I have is an 89 model and it needs a lot of work done to it but I just don't have the income to restore it, But I would love to restore it in the memory of my dad and mom, my dad loved the old car and my mom loved the same type of cars and others as well, Mom has been gone 31 years and dad has been gone a year and 8 months now, Hopefully someday I might be able to get it restored if it doesn't turn to dust on me before then, I love old cars and this car is sentimental to me because dad drove it for years and then I owned it after him and then I had to park it because it was just getting to bad of shape to be driven anymore, but getting it restored would be Awesome especially in memory of my dad and mom

I agree, but you also have to think of the era she was in. How many female racers were there in her time? That screams independence and breaking the mold and cycles of gender roles. To have a guy that is young enough to be her great great grandson asking to clean her car, she probably wants nothing to do with that. That’s just how I interpret it. But you’re right…I bet she has so,e amazing memories and stories.

It came with the trash cans or it came with the hooks as you pointed out where it connected so you could buy one. So if it came with a trash can they would break from use and you could buy replacements in your automotive/department store automotive section/hardware store automotive section. If you did not have a console shifter and it was a column mounted shifter, which most were if not all, they had a matching tray that you could buy with the trash can and it went over the drive shaft tunnel......So it had a tray for wallet/sunglasses/change and then two cup holders. As you just saw they came in different interior colors....Blue/Black/Red/ Tan/ Green/Brown. But some of the time they did not have your interior color so you settled for the best available color in a pinch I remember emptying them as a kid and the motion to unhook it. They would stick in the slot after being attached for a long time and the summer heat. I

You referenced David Spade's character Richie in the film 'The Benchwarmers'. Great flick! Also, I really appreciate you guys showing love for the old GM full-size street queens. I always enjoyed those I owned. Keep it up!

The owner sounds cool, and another great video… It’s rare to see malaise era American cars get some love, but I think people are starting to look at them more warmly now. My favorite American car detail you did was the hearse because I’m a weirdo.

Nah, nothing weird about that; I collect miniature hearses and ambulances and have reference books on them.
