The Aosta Valley is located in the middle of the Italian Alps, directly on Mont Blanc and surrounded by other four-thousanders. Those who drive through enjoy fantastic views of the snow-capped peaks of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and Gran Paradiso. For holidaymakers, the Italian region offers hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing, and skiing - even in the summer.

Anne Willmes also swings over a gorge on a zipline and tries out the "rebatta" sport that is typical of the region. She enjoys the culinary offer of the border region: the famous Fontina cheese and the Jambon de Bosses ham. In addition to Italian and French, the Aosta Valley also speaks rare dialects such as Patois and Titsch.
Located in north-western Italy, the Aosta Valley is the country's smallest region. It borders France to the west and Switzerland to the north, and Piedmont to the south and east. The Aosta Valley follows the natural course of the Dora Baltea. Further side valleys branch off on both sides of the main valley "Valle d'Aosta". The region is surrounded by four-thousander mountains: Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco), Matterhorn (Monte Cervino), the Monte Rosa mountains and the Gran Paradiso, which is located in the national park of the same name.
The "Cammino Balteo" is a 350 km long hiking trail that runs through the entire Aosta Valley and also passes the Lenteney waterfall near La Salle. On the hikes you will always come across shimmering turquoise, clear alpine lakes. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to swim in them - this is officially forbidden in all alpine lakes in the Aosta Valley.
The average temperatures (maximum values) are 5 degrees Celsius in winter and 25 degrees Celsius in summer. In autumn you have to expect dense cloud cover and fields of fog, but often the Aosta Valley is in the most beautiful sunshine, while the weather in the lower-lying regions is bad. There is snow on the peaks even in summer; Skiing and snowboarding are possible all year round. The wide valley offers many sports opportunities in summer: zipline, hiking, mountain biking, climbing and much more.
The journey to the Aosta Valley is from Germany by car via the Great Saint Bernard Pass or through the Great Saint Bernard Tunnel. You can take the train and bus via Martigny in Switzerland. The nearest airports are Geneva, Milan and Turin.
