Seit 1974 stehen Third World auf der Bühne und gehören damit zur ersten Generation von Reggae-Künstlern. Sie sind eine der erfolgreichsten Reggae-Bands aller Zeiten und sind bis heute aktiv auf Tour und im Studio.
Nach ihrer Gründung im Jahr 1973 machten Third World 1974 ihr Livedebüt und spielten zunächst in Hotels in und um Kingston und supporteten gemeinsam mit den Wailers die Jackson 5 bei ihrem Auftritt im Jamaican National Stadium. Nachdem sie einen Plattenvertrag bei Island Records bekamen, gingen sie mit den Wailers auf Europatournee.
Im Laufe der Siebziger wurden Third World stark von Disco sowie US-amerikanischem Soul und Funk beeinflusst. Mit der Zeit entwickelten sie aus diesen Genres zusammen mit Reggae ihre ureigene Fusion. Ihren internationalen Durchbruch hatten sie Ende der Siebziger und Anfang der Achtziger. Beim Reggae Sunsplash Festival 1981 traten sie gemeinsam mit Stevie Wonder auf und zollten mit dem Song "Master Blaster" dem gerade verstorbenen Bob Marley Tribut. Wonder schrieb für sie den Song "Try Jah Love", der zum Hit wurde.
Zahllose Chart-Hits, darunter "That We Found Love" und "96 Degrees In The Shade" sowie zehn Grammy-Nominierungen pflastern seitdem ihren Weg. Und die Herren ruhen sich nicht auf ihren Lorbeeren aus: Auf ihrem 2019er-Album "More Work To Be Done!", produziert von Damian Marley und erschienen auf Ghetto Youths International, featuren sie unter anderem Chronixx oder Busy Signal.

J’aime le groupe Third World depuis toujours . Ce qu’ils font actuellement est bien mais pas aussi bien que dans le passé . Bunny Rugs était l’âme de ce fantastique groupe de Reggae. RIP Bunny.

I especially was totally & POSITIVELY "BLOWN AWAY" with a one of a kind "RAP" Versionof Mr. Reggae Ambassador with Special Guest Artist PATTO BANTON doing an Incredible ONE OF A KIND LYRICALLY OUTSTANDING,Magical Rhyming with SLICK TIMING LIKE I'VE NOT HEARD OF SINCE THAT ONE & ONLY "LIVE PERFORMANCE"!!! This is an entirely different band. Guitarist Cat Coore is the only original member. They sound like a mere shadow of the "real Third World".Third World had a very distinctive and recognizable sound, this is very generic and un-inspired sounding.

That "Sound" is still there. It may not be the original full lineup, but that sound/feel is most definitely still there and that's what matters in this case. 😂🤘
