A boy's best friend is his mother and Norman defends Norma from Marion Crane's suggestion that she should be put into a mad house.
From Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (1960): Marion disappears after stealing money from her employer. Her lover and sister try to find her and end up reaching the infamous Bates Motel, where they meet Norman Bates.

“People always mean well. They cluck their thick tongues, and shake their heads and suggest, oh, so very delicately!” Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates is probably in the top 10 best acting performances ever! It absolutely BLEW me away O.o

This is our first noticeable hint that something is wrong. His sudden shift in demeanor, blank stare, monotone voice and very detailed description of "some place" definitely raises a few eyebrows.

One of the great masterstrokes of this film was in the casting of Perkins as Norman. In Bloch's original book, Norman is quite a grotesque character but here, Perkins' boyish good looks and awkward charm are sharply contrasted against the monstrosity of "Mother". He was almost too good, as this role dented his career, forcing him to work largely in Europe - thankfully, he eventually embraced his iconic role and would return to it 20 years later 😅

Absolutely classic masterpiece of film making & launched the slasher horror genre! Fabulous acting & director Alfred hitchcock was a master of suspense this film & The Birds were in my opinion his finest work! ❤😊

"A boys best friend is his Mother" I don't know that line seems to stand out against all the others in this scene. I believe Norman's dependency on his mother is relevant, but in all contrast with this line we see the inner most devotion and malice he has for her...
