I came across this quote when i was a young teen and i’m glad i did at a young age because every time in my life where i got really sad or depressed, i never thought about killing myself.. i completely eliminated that as an option after seeing this one quote.. and it’s a quote my younger sister told me after i told it to her after she did try to kill herself ten years ago when she was 12, she said in her saddest moments she always thinks back to me telling her this quote and she too has completely eliminated suicide as an option! And what you said in this video reminded me of it once again.. “Suicide does not end the chances of life getting worse, suicide eliminates the possibility of it ever getting better! Suicide does not end your pain, suicide gives your pain to those who loved you!” After seeing that quote, I looked at life in a different way! Even when I am at my lowest, I know as long as I’m still breathing there’s still time turn turn things around! And also, I love my family and friends more than anything! I love them more than I love myself! Suicide is an option I completely eliminated because Ive thought about if I did end my life.. if I was so selfish to take myself out of their lives, how that would make them feel! I know how much my parents love me, how much my siblings love me, how much my friends love me.. the worst thing I could do to them is end my life and leave them with that sadness.. I would never want to do that! Even if I feel all hope is lost in my own thoughts.. I am man enough to face those thoughts head on each and every day, not for myself, but for the love of my family! I’m strong enough to keep moving forward! We all are! That is why I completely eliminated suicide as an option! Life can always get better! You just can’t quit!

So sorry about the loss of your friend Kenan, I'm glad Slinky is there to keep his memory alive. Great message about being brave and seeking help when you need it, I've had my share of issues over the last few months (thankfully I've never gotten to a point where I've felt suicidal, but a lot of trouble with anxiety and depression none the less) and a couple of weeks ago I finally decided to stop letting it dictate my life and reach out to get some help, and I have my first therapy session tomorrow. I've been feeling incredibly nervous and almost had a sense of shame about it for the last few days, and your words towards the end of this video helped reassure me that I'm doing the right thing, so thank you!

It’s a good subject to mention. Don’t make permanent decisions on temporary struggles. It’s heartbreaking to hear when one takes their own life. It’s one of the reasons why I like to smile and say hi to strangers…a title reach out can make a difference in somebody’s day.

Sorry to hear about your friend. My hubby is a heart transplant recipient and we had found out that his donor took his own life. We met the mom of his donor the situation is sad on her end but she was so happy that my hubby health has been doing better since his transplant we can never thank our wonderful donor enough but still mourn with our donor mom in the unexpected loss of her son.

It’s never too much when you try to give advice to those going through hard times. So ramble on it comes from a good place.

Kenan, you should make a insulated and heated cave in Slinky's enclosure. I know you have a heated hide already but something bigger that he can move around in more so he can regulate his temp better. Maybe he gets too warm sitting on the heat pad and goes out to cool down and then gets too cold to go back in when it's very cold. Something like an igloo and cover it with universal rock panels and big enough that u can go in a hang out with him also. As you know you never want to get them too hot in a enclosed area and always need to thermoregulate.

A friend of mine took his own life just over a month ago and an other friend passed away a week or two after when one of his arteries broke. Take care of your friends and families because you dont know how long you have them in your life.

Always so sad to hear of someone taking their own life. You're right, it is unfair that the people who care about them are left to deal with that loss and often feel guilt too - but I think they get so they honestly begin to believe everyone will be better off without them. So sad. There's a song called Suicide you should check out by an independent British artist, Ren, who lost his best friend as a teenager.

I love all your animals. All of them are my favorites. I have a common snapper that was born in January. He is a miracle to be alive. See I'm in Pennsylvania it was in the 30s - 40 degrees. He was a hatchling crossing a parking lot. Somehow he survived. His/her name is Jack, for Jack Frost. The really cool thing is he is not aggressive at all, never opens his mouth at all. He'll be 9 months old and weighs over a pound and 5" diameter. He allows me to rub his head and all. I just wanted to share my snappers story. He is so cool. I wish I could attach photos of him. Thank you for sharing a big part of your life with us.

I never thought I would bond to a animal with out fur but about 4-5 yrs ago I took in a 17 yr old Corn Snake. She is one of my favorites and I trust her to be held by my Grandbabies, she is special in my heart

This past year I've watched my adult male Redfoot tortoise heal from a rat attack and learn how to walk and start eating on his own again without ever trying to give up. Great video! Always nice to see you hanging out with the animals. Interactions like you can have with Guapo and Lola, slinky etc. are pretty awesome! It will be interesting to see how things go with Inky as she grows and ends up with a larger walk in enclosure as well. It's unfortunate when things aren't so positive, like what you mentioned about Slinky's past owner, but I appreciate how you do not shy away from talking about realities when they crop up from time to time. You never know what someone could be going through, and sometimes messages that mean a lot to someone can come from seemingly unexpected places, like a reptile related video.

I named off your favorites before you did but I had Slinky first. I ve been watching since the Pond guys turned your front yard into the rec pond. Love it every time.

First, I wish the state had not taken away Princess Buttercup's freedom. Second, in 2000 I did attempt suicide. Thankfully, I failed. Now I'm a wife of 18 years with a 17 year old daughter. I'm REALLY struggling right now for a variety of reasons. My husband and daughter are my strength and my reason when I can find no other reason. My daughter wants to major in psychology to help other people. The way she supports me and is truly insightful with me and others, I know she will help many people with her career choice. My husband is the most understanding partner I could have. He will hold me for hours letting me get all my emotions out through tears. I'm blessed to have the support that I do. My husband would LOVE to have reptiles but our living and financial situation does not allow that. My daughter has one Russian tortoise who is completely spoiled by her and my husband and I have one leopard gecko who we are still forming a bond with. Then we have your channel where we feel like we are right there with you. My husband lived from mid teens to mid twenties in Wellington, FL. Whenever you talk about how hot and humid it is he says "I don't miss that!" Thank you for sharing your animals with us Kenan!

I always think it’s important to talk about mental health. Men especially need spaces they feel they can talk. When my mum passed, my tortoises gave me a reason to get out of bed every day, they needed me for light warmth and food. It would have been a lot harder to get through that time if I hadn’t had them.

Yeap got them right... guapmo the puppy... marge who thinks she is a giant... nostradamus... such a wonderful tortoise... you have to move him... and ofcourse slinky... i still remember that day... where he was lying on the floor... for dead... and then the miracle that he was starting to visually breath... and warming up... ow yes... that rescue of that beautiful animal... it was a scary adventure... but he survived and now is the king of.kamp kenan... For me is nostradamus the number 1... together with slinky... then guappo and then marge. She is so funny... but nostradamus is my absolute favorite... he is such a good boy... all 4 are my favorites too. Include also lego and lumpy... I guess that's his name... the tortoise that attacked Hercules... I am so bad with names... 😊

I am so sorry for your losses. My pets have saved my life more than once. They know when I'm at the end of my rope, and they come over to me and give me a look like "Mom, don't go. Who will love us and take care of us like you do?" I have many complex medical and mental health challenges, but I always find a way to claw my way out of the dark pit, and back into the sunlight.

Slinky and Marge are my favorites

So sorry for your loss of a friend. Just over a year ago we lost my 7 year old nephew due to his father commiting suicide, he killed my nephew then shot himself. Suicide is definitely something that needs to be helped in preventing. The loss of anyone is terrible, but to know and feel as though you could have helped prevent it is hard. You do a great job, Kenan, but I do wish Lucifer had a nice deep dark cave like the smooth fronts do. I know he's got that stone bench, but it's just not dug in like the other cayman. Again, you do a great job with all your animals. I do miss crazy feeding sessions with Pinky but she really is in a better place now. That's a lot of "buts", keep up the good work man.👍

Pneumonia is a killer in tortoises and they often don’t show any symptoms until the final stages (as a defense against predators in the wild.) I purchased a rather costly nebulizer and got a script for antibiotics for my female Star Tortoise when she contracted pneumonia about 9 years ago. Luckily she pulled through and I haven’t had any problems since (knock wood.) My Stars also bred for the first time recently, watching baby torts pip is an amazing experience!
