The Nano is nice for what it is. It has clearly gained quite a large fanbase and many will purchase this. So, great for ANBERNIC and it's Nano fans. Though, I much prefer the 280V as my micro handheld.

It's great as a novelty device but I wouldn't recommend it as your 1st retro handheld or main device. It's a bit small and the dpad is a challenge to play those hard games like Mega Man and Contra. It's not that the dpad is not accurate but because the dpad is small that you couldn't press it accurately especially when you are moving fast. Those hard games whould be playable if you download a hacked game. On NES Contra I have a hacked game that Spread is always the default gun and I'm enjoying playing it. The Spread hack compensate for the lack accurate movement because of the small dpad.

For casual, everyday, waste 10 minutes at a time type of play. It’s AMAZING. Word of warning. I would not purchase from Amazon. Mine came with a corrupt SD card and I had to image a new one before it would work at all. But yeah, it’s not good for long gaming sessions (obviously) but to carry around in a backpack or chest pocket? Fantastic. Playing through Wario World 3 between tasks at work right now.

I just bought this because I got tired waiting for a better Anbernic 5 inch screen device. The Nano has a great build quality and also got me into Pico-8 games.

i got my nano in a week ago and my sd card reader inside the device was broken so had to order another one luckly i got most of my money back to get another one. waiting for your funkeys review i might want to get one.

Im late to the party but i just got my rg nano and was looking for a review that explains what I was feeling. What you said is 1000% spot on. This captures the essence of what a lot of us are trying to capture with this hobby. Ive spent a 100:1 time ratio on buying and researching these devices versus actually playing them. This is the first device that I actually legitimately feel like is going to get real game time. Its hard to describe but the best system is the one thats with you, and this system will always be in my 5th pocket

@@adinwalls i am a pretty big guy at 6'2" and this thing is not bad because the buttons are so firm. I have huge hands but I have slender fingers. For example, The switch joycons are brutal for me and I have to use the pro controller to be able to use the shoulder buttons. Somehow this device doesnt hurt my hands and im able to play. Fat fingers may have a horrible time with this. My wife uses her nails and swears by it.

They need to release the same exact build, but just a tad bigger to accommodate GBA, so it isn’t stretched.

Nano devices are really interesting from a technical perspective, but they are simply just too smol to feasibly play almost any game outside of simple 8-bit titles. I adore the Anbernic RetroMini I recently acquired, but it's as small as I'm able to personally go... and I'm already pretty small myself. It'll be interesting to see just how far they'll be able to take these nano devices. Imagine running the Nintendo 64 library from your one hand.

it is unfortunate that this device wasn't priced more reasonably. as a novelty, much like a tamagotchi, it would've made an interesting gift option someone could hang off their bag or their keys. but not at that price point.

I think Anbernic are aiming at a very specific audience. The only competitor is the Funkey S at a similar price and it’s a plastic clamshell. So two very different products

Agreed. The starting 60-70 dollar price tag is a little much. 40-50 is more reasonable, though.

_Too small..._ I am getting eyestrain & hand cramps just by looking at other people's videos! *Miyoo Mini* is as small as I can manage and only for short play sessions. Shame they didn't make it 4:3 aspect screen with at least a 2.4 inch screen. I know Anbernic are marketing it as an MP3 player too, I doubt the battery would last that long to make it useful.

One reason I bought this device is that I like the Open Dingux style OS. Unfortunately, the one here doesn't allow you to add emulators like on say the RG 280m. Neither Anbernic, nor Funkey .opk will work. The only way to add emulators (and thus make this device play all the games I needed it to play) is to install the custom firmware. After that it will accept the Funkey .opk emulators. Only real gripe after that is the square screen. A rectangle would have worked a lot better with most games. Anyway, its a decent mp3 player that can also be used to kill a few minutes playing old games. 😎
