Are you a Racist? This is a question that we should all be asking ourselves.
We (as humans) are almost always more comfortable around others that look like us, talk like us, and act like us etc... But we should push ourselves to move outside of our comfort zone and learn more about people that are different than ourselves.
There is so much for us to learn from others when we step outside of our circle and experience a new culture, language, city, or even take a look at a different political view.
You don't have to change who you are or what you believe in order to learn from someone that is different than you.
Let's fight hate together by finding a common interest instead of keeping track of all of our differences.

Carlton=I agree! God agrees as well. There are different ethnicities and cultures but only one race. To believe in "races" you would have to believe in evolution. With evolution some "races" would be further behind than others which leads to racism. The belief that others are inferior or behind in evolving. God believes we are all the same as far as the heart is concerned. The ground is level at the foot of the cross! I don't have to like everything about someone's cultural norms and they don't have to like everything about mine. There are things admirable and dis-admirable in all cultures. We can talk about those. But we do have to love.

I've got to say, I have seen tremendous strides. I live in a small southern town. Our church has every color and background. This wouldn't have happened even 20 years ago. I remember being a kid and wondering why. Now, my heart aches with joy when I look around the congregation and see so many people represented. I think to myself, "This is what Heaven will be like." It moves me to happy tears.

Rose Work you said it exactly right “latent, learned racism “. There was a news report a couple weeks ago that two little boys wanted to get the same haircut so that their teacher could not tell them apart. They both got buzz cuts, best of friends. By the looks of them kindergarten or first grade. But they came out of the barber shop smiling to no end holding hands. One was white and one was black. It was the most touching story I had seen on the news in a very long time. Both sets of parents agreed and participated in this, what awesome standup parents that their children can look up too.

I was racist as I grew up where people fought each other and you stuck with ur race, I didn’t know how much it effected me and how I didn’t like anyone that was not white, when I got saved I was changed immediately but I still had old habits that needed work, today I get mad when I see racism in any race and I find myself seeing a group of thugs and the old flesh starts trying to drive a wedge, not all black people are like the black people rioting in the streets of Ferguson nor all white people like those in Mississippi burning , people are people, some good some bad and their skin color doesn’t determine what they are, their heart does and only Jesus can fix a heart no matter what color it is, I thank God He sent His son, a Jew to take my racism, my sin and nail it to an old rugged cross and today I’m just thankful I’m saved, 17 years shooting heroine and hating people and The Blood of Jesus set me free.

And you said it perfectly, it’s not important who’s doing something no matter that “something” is, it’s WHAT they’re doing and how we can all learn from that lesson. Loving everyone as God commands is what we’re supposed to be doing and how I’ve always chosen to live my life. If you’re good to me I’m good to you. If you’re mean...well...if I can’t change your heart then I’ll just move on. No sense allowing negativity into my heart and life. Thank you for sharing this. God Bless you and the family. Absolutely, racism is just plain stupid. Mike, I'm an old woman (74 years old) and my parents taught us to respect everyone (no matter what the skin color) unless that person gave us a reason not to respect him. God teaches that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves, and I firmly believe that is the way it should be. We are really NOT different races --- God made one race -- the human race. There are different tribes of man , and I just love people. You and your family are delightful people. So, treating someone with hatred or disrespect because that person's skin or hair or eyes or whatever other human trait that person might have is just wrong. I'm sorry if you have been mistreated or disrespected in any way. It's just wrong.

I saw a video for Ancestry DNA and they had several people gettin different ethnicities take the test. There were two people in particular that actually hated one another's race and country just to discover they were cousins. Others found that they are made of several different ethnicities. That comes to me! I'm made of people that came from all corners of the globe, at one time or another, just so I can be here today. Nobody should ever point fingers, whisper, gossip etc because we truly are all one people. I'm Norwegian, Portugese, Scottish, Welsh, Pacific Islander, Irish, Milanese and English. And that's not in a percentage order because it doesn't matter. My children have all that...and a bag of chips! Having been raised the way I was (multicultural) then in the US Navy you see people as individuals. We're all here. Nobody's going anywhere. If you weren't taught to love then teach. I do have say I dealt with "Southernism" and I'm only a couple hours from the southern state I was born in. Had to laugh at the lady who screamed for me to, "Go back to the South!" I still have no idea what was going on. Maybe she had a bad day or something. And why fo people automatically think your stupid if you have a southern accent? I like to quote Sir Winston Churchill: 'There's nothing more beautiful than listening to an educated Southern woman.'

People simply don’t understand those who aren’t like them. Finding common ground is so important. Yes we are all part of the human race, but representation is very important for those who don’t see themselves within a community. For that reason, I’d like to thank you for being open about your family here on KZfaq. You’re one of the only multiracial or multicultural families (at least that I’ve found) in the farming/homestead community here in KZfaq. You may not know how you impact another generation who sees themselves in you, or who can envision themselves as part of the farming/homesteading community. :)

Back in the the book of Genesis, the people, who were all one race, were told to not try to reach God. They were rebellious and built the Tower of Babbel. God was angry and changed everyone so that they couldn't understand each other. I believe that change was not only language but their race. The people then separated into the groups that they understood and left the area. None of these different races were better or worse than any other race...just different. I've traveled traveled many countries abroad (too many to list) - none have been as worse as the USA as of recently. Racism is insidious and effects all of us. Seeing the humanity in each other is key, and one way to do that is to spend time together and talk to each other. ❤️ LOVED this video so much!!!

Amen! I have always believed and have taught my son this... We all breathe the same air. There is not special air of different kinds for different skin tones or for different races or people who believe differently. If ANY one of us gets a cut and it bleeds, the blood is still the same color for everyone. I have always found it to be a joy and something that is truly awesome, to see and get to know how other folks live and how they feel about the things that affect their lives compared to ours. I will leave my comment at this, before I get on my "soap box"....lol. I guess I just wished that our society would take more time to see what is good in one another, than to search for the imperfections. We all have 'em. Love your channel and sure appreciate you, your family, what you are trying to say and all the hard work you do. Brenda. London, Ontario, Canada.

Very inspiring video. As Chinese born Canadian, I can totally relate to what you're saying. People are people and just meeting and talking with people from different cultures brings such a different perspective than listening to the media or any other things we find on the internet. Many negative opinions, but not all, of other cultures are based on hearsay and not real life experience. I'm happy you had an awesome experience with your family and exposed them to a culture they were unfamiliar with. We need more people to get to know people are people but they just live differently. My Grandfather was a Farmer in Sicily. His Father died when he was about 8. They had a drought and a major earthquake, so at 16 years old he came to Canada to dig ditches. Once he made enough money he came to Oregon and started selling produce from his cousins Farm. That's how he made his living. He bought a house, then sent for his Mother and siblings and bought them a house (nothing fancy) and half the neighborhood was relatives. My Father was selling produce door to door with his Dad and Brother at about 7 years old. That's how it was done in the 1920's and 30's and onward, until grocery stores started buying and selling produce. You and your family are so Blessed to have such a positive attitude about everything. You work so well together. Love watching your videos.❤

So I fell for the clickbait, I thought you were going to talk about your experience as a multi-racial farmer AND instances of racism. I'm not sure which comment you are referring to, but there is nothing wrong with subscribers asking for more 'Diversity and Inclusivity in your videos. Some people most likely follow you because they see a POC living the life that they so desperately want, but that seems out of reach because of the color of their skin. It's surprising and disappointing that you don't see that. Representation matters. I for one would love to see homesteaders and farmers of color thriving in this lifestyle, reasons why I follow people like @sowtheland and @SoulFireFarm. They give me hope that this type of life and food culture IS for me too. @thefitfarmer

Demanding forced diversity isn't the way though. I watch Mike cause he is passionate about his lifestyle and has a very positive outlook on so many topics. And he is on a journey I desperately desire to but can't on my own because of health difficulties. If I had to describe him to someone I was trying to share his channel with, his race would be one of the latter attributes I'd mention by far because it really doesn't matter. He's excitable, playful, hard working, family oriented, and loves to share his knowledge where he can. Yea it's cool that he is black and a farmer, but you are shrinking his story to just that, a black farmer. Yall need to stop focusing on it so hard, and just let things be instead of demanding things like the comment he mentioned. He probably hadn't showcased other black or Hispanic farmers just because they weren't near him or hadn't known anyone he could reach out to for that. Saying he isn't providing representation is BS since it's not about catering to people about color, his channel is about being passionate for healthier lifestyle choices and the hard work that goes into it.

@@h.s.6269 Demanding? Who's demanding, I clearly said "asking" Would you prefer instead "requesting" or "hoping"?; none of which is demanding. Who is shrinking his story? Mike is black and/or Mixed heritage, which is PART of his story. Acknowledging and celebrating diversity in farming when 95 percent of landowning farmers are white in the US. is valid and important; feigning colorblindness isn't helpful nor useful. I'm glad Mike inspires you, that you enjoy his channel the way it is, and that you barely notice he's black (good for you). But it isn't good enough for everyone and it should be ok to say so.

I was taught at a very young age (before starting school) to treat everyone with kindness. We had several races of people in our little community growing up in the 1950's. Had several races of people in my classes all through school and my parents taught us you don't look at a person and see pigment, social standing, mental or physical capacity, you look at them as a fellow human being. You look at their heart. I carried that with me all my life, taught my kids and my grands the same thing. UNTIL the world starts talking about our human-ness and not pointing our our differences all the time, nothing will change. I am so tired of people pointing out the differences in people b/c when it comes down to it, we are all the same. We want the same things for our families, our communities and our world. There is one race, the human race. We cannot help the pigment of our skin that we were born with, but we can help make this work a better place by loving all people you come in contact with and helping them along the way. Yes, there are people out there that are "racist", but they need to be enlighten and they need to be made to see that there is no difference in human beings. Just start talking to people and learning their story. That is what makes people so interesting. Love one another.

I wish there were a remedy especially for people like me who truly sees the beauty in everyone.
