Got one last year just under 1 meter. Got em up beside the kayak 3 times and he just kept taking off. 15-20 min later, on the forth time he was tired enough for me to keep his head out of the water ,not allowing anymore water through those gills for him to Hoon off again. Back drag off,hold line in hand while putting rod in rod holder so if he took off again he wouldn't roll me into the drink. While head still out of water, put other hand around tail,let him thrash 10sec then lift in evenly with hand pulling on line and tail. You gotta be careful when you pull em in with hands in gills because the hook can be in there and if he thrashes and that barb goes through that hand or finger you'll automatically let go ,weight of fish will tip you out and you've gotta world of trouble with a kingi attached to your hand. I know your one was hooked in the corner of mouth but if you get another which you probs will as kingi season is here and you forget your gaff again🤣 try that. Good luck out there. It's very addictive when you get the first kingi for the season. Never no harm always putting out a live bait🤙
