My brother used to own three Multivlaai's. One in Maassluis, one in Vlaardingen and one in Wateringen. He sold the one in Vlaardingen and turned the one in Maassluis into a Luciano. The one in Wateringen is still lucrative because of the many farmers from the Westland who are buying tons of vlaaien there. He used to tell me that the vlaaien are really made daily in Limburg and transferred by night to the rest of the Netherlands. But these kind of vlaai are specially made for the "Hollanders" because real Limburgse vlaai is much too thick for people outside of Limburg. I lived for over 10 years in Maastricht and I can tell you that real Limburgse vlaai is superior to the ones from the Multivlaai.

In Naaldwijk zit er ook een Multivlaai.. maar een echte Limburgse rijstevlaai ontbreekt in het assortiment, en die zijn zo onwijs lekker!!

The comments so far do show how proud and protective we as Limburgers are of our vlaai. Real vlaai comes from Limburg 😁 The big difference between "vlaai" and Limburg vlaai is the dough used for the crust.

Neeeee.....dit is absoluut niet de vlaai zoals deze in Limburg wordt gegeten. Dit is heel overdreven om van ieder smaakje een vlaai te maken! Peter Lemmens...dat is pas ECHTE Limburgse vlaai. Maar wat zijn jullie een leuk koppel! Heerlijk om naar te kijken! Ga vooral door!

@@raskahn9286 but can they still do the moment it is a UNESCO regional recognised dish? All of the ingredients of a vlaai needs to be of Limburg don’t they? Especially the dough of the crust but only apricots cherry rice and crumble can be called real Limburgian vlaai don’t they?

In 1984 I went to Maastricht from Rotterdam om 4 vlaaien te halen on my motorcycle, mijn Moeder zei dat ik gek was totdat ze haar favoriete kruimel vlaai at, "Ja, heerlijk, dank je wel voor "eventjes" vlaai gaan halen"

As a native Limburger I have to advise you to try the Kruisbessenvlaai when you're in Limburg. You can't get them everywhere but from a good place I think it's delicious. You can also get one with an extra layer of creamy foamy stuff. That is quite a bit sweeter. I prefer the 'simple' one.

Creamy foamy stuff is het beste merengue te noemen denk ik. Ik vind een staekbaerevlaai mit sjoem / krosjelevlaai wel de beste aanrader. @buncharted it is goose berry season from june to august. So it makes sense to be more geared to summer season I guess

So yeah real vlaai is from Limburg, but as far as vlaai goes, Multivlaai is the best option we have around here. Tintelfris is one of our go-to's. It tastes nothing like mustard, it's lime on top, cream, raspberry filling and the bottom is Bastogne cookies. It's delicous.

In de jaren 80 bracht mijn vader altijd vlaaien mee na een zakenreis naar Limburg, wij woonden in Groningen. Er was altijd een kruisbessenvlaai bij!

We had yesterday (Belgian) Breydelvlaai, is kinda a Apple-crumble at the office. Famous vlaai in Belgium are : Kriekenvlaai (Sherry), Breselienne, Rijstvlaai (not the fancy), Dendermondse vlaai, Bakkemoezevlaai, ... In any case, thanks for the fun video. Eating 'Multivlaai' is like having a taco from 'Taco Bell'. It's not the original. Just made for people outside Limburg (NL/Belgium). You should try the 'Linzen'vlaai(cherry or abricot). That is the vlaai that is best eaten after one day it's made. So delicious!

Maybe you already expected this reaction but the real vlaai comes from the province of Limburg and multivlaai is a bit of a large chain that sells vlaai all over the Netherlands. So....what you've got to do is: go back to Maastricht and buy some vlaaien there. For example from: patisserie Peter Lemmens, boulangerie Van Weerdt or bakkerij Hermans. There you will get the authentic Limburgse vlaai or as I would calll it the Maastricht vlaai. Love your video's. and keep up the good work! :)

Nice to see that you guys tried some Vlaai. My mom used to work in the factory and my mother in law still does work in the factory of multivlaai they also have the vlaai in all of the Janlinders Albertheijn stores.

Creamy milk and rice vlaai is sooo yummie! These were only for the very special moments in life... Topped with whipped cream if you desire. And some chocolate flakes (chocolate bar, shavings).

They used to have Christoffel vlaai. A light brown creamy one with cherries and some chocolate flakes on top. I always chose it for my birthdays

Hoe eenvoudig ook, de traditionele vlaaien (inclusief rijstevlaai) zijn IMHO vaak het lekkerst. Verse kersenvlaai all the way baby! ;)

I was born and raised in Limburg, but have been living in North-Holland for almost 15 years now. Multivlaai may not be as good as a local bakery in Limburg, but it isn't bad either. I'm a regular customer.

I used to work in an office where the most closeby pastry-shop was a Multivlaai, so anyone who had a birthday bought their pastry there, so i'm kind of fed up with Multivlaai. I used to like all the pies with cherries in them, but for the aforementioned reason, and i think the vlaaien have become really expensive there for what they offer, I only very occasionally buy them there now.

My favorite is the Apricot one or in summer the strawberry one, with the flaky sugared bottom with a thin layer of chocolate on the top bottom layer, it has strawberry kwark and then fresh Dutch strawberries and whipped cream. Sooooo delicious. No winter strawberry, but summer, nice and sweet and juicy

Vrienden van mij hebben een Multivlaai filiaal, dus ik heb ook veel geproefd. Behalve de traditionele (kersen-, rijste-, abrikozenvlaai) vind ik de zwiteserse roomvlaai heel erg lekker. Vlaai met kruisbessen is ook erg lekker.

My husband comes from Limburg, I from Rotterdam. For birthdays they always had vlaai, I had slagroomtaart. I don’t really like vlaai; it‘s bread with a sweet filling, in my opinion. The kids love kruimelvlaai though.

Never heard of Multivlaai and they sure take their creative freedom to the next level. :') Glad to see you covered all the essentials though, but at this point i wouldn't expect anything less! I only missed the "regular" strawberry vlaai. (strawberries covered in clear jelly with whipped cream on it) Abrikozen, Kersen and Crumble (Greumele) would be the standard at most birthdays. Sometimes folks would get an assortment of flavours and the "gemengd fruit" with the kiwi would always be the last one left. My alltime favorite would always be Rijstevlaai, it's so stupidly light so you can eat 3 pieces before you even start to notice how much you've already had. :D

Hai Guys weer een leuke video ik heb nog een ander ideetje voor jullie om te maken , jullie weten misschien dat Nederlanders van toetjes houden en deze elke dag na de maaltijd eten wat dachten jullie van een vla test waar jullie de verschillende vla's en yoghurt smaken testen bijvoorbeeld dubbel vla , chocolade vla , aardbeien vla , citroen vla , vanille-yoghurt vla , yoghurt kaneel vla , enz enz kijk maar eens in de koeling bij de AH of Jumbo er zijn een heleboel smaken ik ben benieuwd wat jullie ervan vinden veel succes

There has been a change in law. Limburgse vlaai is only allowed to call that if it is from Limburg.

You missed the best one, the “smurfenvlaai” Now the Smurfen are the little bleu men with the white caps. So it is a abrikoosvlaai with sweet cream and on top of it ….white chocolate flakes. When you tasted it, you kill for it

The great difference between Dutch pies and North American pies is that the Dutch ones generally contain way less sugar. Dutch appeltaart is the very best. Having lived in Canada for the last 20 years, I sometimes wish I would have stayed in the Netherlands.

Hey my friends! So many vlaaien! It is a hard job but some one has to do it! ;-) For me the bananavlaai is pretty delicious. Vlaaien are pretty popular in Flanders too. There are some other kinds too. Like a delicious raspberry vlaai and different kinds of applevlaai. There is the "smurfenvlaai" and the "knobbelkesvlaai" and there is pruimenvlaai with prunes. And I almost forgot the rabarbervlaai - rhubarbvlaai.

Vlaai is nice and thanks for the good videos so far. Are you ever going to mention the earthquakes problem in Groningen though? Felt one the other night and if I could send the foto of the wall damage over YT I would but big cracks in my flat in the balcony and WC now. Are you guys always gonna do a channel as if you are tourists here, or are you gonna actually go a bit deeper and not just taste food but see how people are living? In my count it’s been 40 odd videos about the Netherlands, but you guys mostly just film yourself going to tourist spots and eating food. I’m wondering how you get the finances for this and what exactly your long term plan is. Still, all of that said, I do find your videos to be very entertaining. If you’re in the far north let me know. I mean farther north than Groningen city hahaha.

Christoffelvlaai is not an original vlaai. It originally is called Christoffeltaart. Sint Christoffel is the saint of the city of Roermond. The best Christoffeltaart originally comes from there. In Roermond you can get the original one (nowadays made in Venlo) even at the AH XL. Even though it’s not a vlaai, there’s not much more delicious than that taart.

Kruisbessenvlaai met schuim ftw! It is the best combo of sweet from the merengue on top of the bitter berries. Good second: rijstevlaai. Go try those in Zuid-Limburg in places like Roermond (go shopping too), Venlo, Maastricht. And buy it at a genuine bakery. Multi vlaai is like Bakker Bart. No artisan bakery at all, let alone good vlaai

yeah the two other pieces of vlaaien we had in our maastricht vlogs were better but the selection at multivlaai is insane (not sure if that’s a good thing, haha)

​@@bunchartedFor sure, multivlaai tend to be more creative with their vlaai. I did try the lime version once with merengue. Never had key lime pie but to me I'd figured it would taste like that. A summer treat. Kruisbessen are called goosberry or so I've read in the comments. Dunno if you would give that 5 stroopwafels though. For me it is the opposite attracts: savory and sweet on pancakes, bitter and sweet on a pie.

Morellenvlaai is also great because they are a bit more sour. We had our local bakery make them with our own morellen back in the 80s!

Guess you’re upsetting lot’s of Limburgians, however Multi Vlaai May originate in Limburg nobody will really call all of these vlaai. I would guess only the cherry apricot crumble and rijstevlaai would be and even those aren’t for the real purists. Now Limburgse vlaai is UNESCO world heritage so only made in Limburg with Limburg fruits/ ingredients are.

FYI: Bavarois is pronounced the French way. My favorite flavor of pie is Progrès. Try if from a real bakery. Not the stuff from the supermarket.

Very brave of you 28 I stick to the traditional vlaai , so the fruit filling cherries or mandarins In Limburg , not multivlaai but a traditional Limburg bakery , you will find only in season more fruits like plum, gooseberry Next to that the rijstevlaai (not deluxe, less sweet. Did you know that Limburgse vlaai is recognized as official regional food by the EU ( like parmezaan cheese)

Very good presentation and rating of the vlaaien from the Multivlaai! I couldn't have done this, because I don't like 'slagroom'. But I do like to kmow the review 🙂 I can probably do it myself, but then it will most certainly disappear 'somewhere' within the comments. Can you make a table with the stroopwafel-categories and the vlaaien in each category? And place it just under your timeline with vlaaien? My guess is, it will be a list to take with you to the Multivlaai 😀 Thanks in advance.

Where is/was the proemevlaai (pruimenvlaai)? Yes, it is seasonal, but anyway. A fresh baked proemevlaai is heaven on earth, sweat and sour. Why not trying to bake it by yourself next summer and showing us the result? For now, I have to apologize. I suddenly became very, very😋 hungry. I must go to the bakery immediately!
