I don't know if that counts as I believe that "tracked" means the only thing touching the ground are tracks, whereas your snow mobile has skis on the front

coming from someone that was in the army and drove tracked artillery pieces... no matter how tight the tracks are you will either break or detrack it if you turn sitting still like that more than like 45 degrees at a time and it gets even worse in sand or dirt because then you are pushing all the dirt/sand against the side of the tracks

Minor tip from what i learned in military with tanks: do not make those hard turns (other track fully locked) more than like 45 degrees at a time. Otherwise on off-road you'll get rocks and other shit between your track and wheel and it'll de-track itself.

Being in the military, you would know this as a tracked vehicle, not a tank. Only one tank model in inventory with the US military anymore.

Don't make it too tight when doing track tension because you will prematurely stretch out your track. Also constant high speed (heat) will stretch track over time too. This becomes a safety issue when ripping on it and you throw track. 2 cents from an US army tanker.

From what I can tell ole Sam has led a great life up until he met the boys. The shear amount of joy you can see on his face in every video he’s in on this channel and others is one of the greatest things ever. My man sam is the cool ass uncle everyone person wishes they had. That brake setup thing is cool. I too thought it was just an open diff that braked proportionately to steering angle, but it's a fair bit more complicated than that - would love to hear Jackstand do a tech overview of that setup - he's good at explaining tech shit. Very cool buy. While I'm a bit partial to the OG one (the single seater tube chassis), this is like a snowcat if it was designed by vehicle enthusiasts, lol. Very cool, look forward to content with this.

Tank safety: Make sure you have an escape route before you run that in the swamp. You need to be able to get out of that if it rolls over and fills with water or catches fire. A hatch in the floor would be ideal. Whatever the escape plan is, practice it until you can get out quickly even when blindfolded.

@Mark Deaton I came out of OTS as a 37A...was a section commander of the AF's largest (and rowdiest) munitions squadron at Kadena AB...learned a lot about administrative UCMJ actions running that orderly room...they called me "Dracula" for all the red ink I marked up their draft EPRs and awards with...ended up winning base personnel manager of the year in '97...next assignment intel school...retired in 2014 many deployments later...

I was in artillery in the Army, and I've thrown some tracks on M-109 howitzers plenty of times. Those tracks are in like 14" sections though. It was still a pain to replace those track sections, but I imagine it's a nightmare (and very expensive) to replace an entire single-band track just because one part of it is jacked up. Look into getting a sectional track!

@@pouncepounce7417 You know, I was thinking about that too. Sectional tracks ARE a lot heavier since each section has a steel frame. It would slow it down considerably I imagine.

@@korndogz69 I think one could make an rubber track that is split into sections. What i would wonder if the price tag would make it worth it, producing an long rubber track compared to segments that need embedded bushings to connect them. I know mainly about bandvagons tracked they are compared much slower but with them no one bothered to make segmented tracks either, they have the same style and they are build in series and run in many militaries around the world.

@@pouncepounce7417 My thought process was you could keep a stack of sections on hand and replace them as needed as opposed to replacing an entire track just because one piece of it tore, or had a large chunk of it missing. Making sectional tracks out of rubber has the obvious problem of withstanding the expanding and contracting forces. That would be introducing weakness and many more points of failure into the track. The ends where the sections are bolted together is where the most likely points of failure would be. Maybe if the rubber is thick enough, it can handle it?

@@chrisoconnor3119 I feel really old now thinking back on that show, but the ripsaw itself is a neat thing with no real application right now for the most part. If it was armored up it would be to slow and lose that nimble handling it has. So that said it's not really a "tank" or anything like that. What it is however is a very capable all terrain vehicle that can only possible appeal to people with WAY to much money.

Awesome show guys! Up for a challenge? Because of the lubricating value of diesel fuel - take a diesel engine clean all the oil out of it replace the oil filter w/ a fuel filter hook up the suction side of the oil pump to the fuel tank hook up the suction side of the fuel pump to the bottom of the oil pan not sure how to maintain a constant level of fuel in the oil pan also not sure if the gaskets will hold up to the diesel fuel Advantage to this if it works (w/ longevity of the motor) would be you wouldn't have to change the oil Scott

be sure to install a hollow dowel pin on each caliper bolt and use grade 10.6 hardware, the shear force on those bolts will be an issue . you notice these are used to locate transmissions to engines and this simple upgrade would eliminate future damage

The track tensioner bolts have two nuts. The outer one is the locknut; to adjust, wind it off the inner nut while holding the inner nut with a second spanner. Locknuts always need two spanners. (Wrench in US.)

Howe & Howe, the builders of the ripsaw are just 5 miles from my home, they got the newer version out front of the building. They were contracted to build them for desert ops by the special forces in 2002-3, if you look on line there are plenty of videos of them being run in the winter and the desert of Maine and at moto 207 with Jay Leno. They are not cheap!

I remember seeing video of the ripsaw when they first started development spectacular machine they had a petrol v8 motor in them back then & did a radio controlled version as well at one point if I recall correctly the military even did some experimenting with them at one stage

Love the Ripsaw, love what you're doing with it, looking forward to some great videos. BUT! The Ripsaw is not a tank in any way shape or form. It is a tracked vehicle along the lines of an APC. He filmed ahead. This ripsaw was delivered before the race between george and cleetus on the february 3rd video, which means it was probably delivered in late January. I say this because they talk about the race coming up toward the beginning of this video plus the fact that the ripsaw is visible at the freedom factory in some of the other videos since then, it was just never acknowledged. I imagine the next video showing them using the ripsaw was filmed shortly thereafter, maybe a week and a half ago.
