I literally just found an old pc of my late grandmothers from like 2015 that had an i3-4170 in it and didnt have a pc, so i searched around marketplace found a 4590, a 1050ti, slapped in a new ssd and honestly the performance is surprising! Love watching budget builds!

Get an E3 1230 v3, 1240 v3, etc. Price is the same as the i5, but since you're putting a dGPU in, you don't need one in your CPU. Having an i7 4770 equivalent will take you much farther than an i5. Good luck!

That's so funny you're reviewing this now. I found your channel after watching other tech reviewers review this and went down the youtube rabbit hole watching your videos. If anyone is watching this video and thinking about buying one, if you search on Amazon for an HP ProDesk 600 G3, you can get an I5-6500, 512gb SSD, and 16g DDR4 in an SFF chasis and a Windows 10 license. I see one now for $110 bucks. Same issue, you need a single slot PCIE graphics card and it'll get toasty, but much better bang for your buck. Or for $212 bucks right now, you can get an HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF with an I7-6700, 1tb SSD, and more space for a 2 slot GPU like a 1650. Or you can buy the Tower version instead of the SFF version for more but have more flexibility on GPUs.

Made a gaming build out of an OptiPlex 990 and it does really well with 1080p. It has a RX 6500 XT and performs really well and it has 24 gigs memory with an 870 evo SSD. Btw love that Tokyo Hoodie.

@@realryxion If the total game textures are less than 4GB it's not going to effect it that much. If it needs more than 4GB then the PCIe 2.0 of Sandybridge combined with the only 8x slot configuration internally of that card will really start to cut into the performance.

I built a 3020 mt with a i7 4790, gtx 1080, 700w with an m.2 boot drive and it runs like you would never believe. It would be great if you would show people how kick ass you can make an OptiPlex maxing it out. It's all fun and games until your buddies know your kicking their ass with an OptiPlex lol

What if you somehow manage to water cool the cpu and add 40mm fans as intake and a little exuast For the 6400 to breath properly Full on mod to your liking after another company has moded it

To be honest, the Optiplex itself isn't terrible. The price range isn't too bad if ur looking to upgrade the pc anyway. It does come with 16GB of ram and 512 GB of SSD, which is better then some other pcs for a higher price. The upgrades I would make (if I got it) would be the CPU and adding the 6400 you did. Personally, I would make the CPU an Intel i5 10400F as it's really solid for gaming.

I’ve seen other versions of those Skytech USA computers with 1660 supers and 2060s in them. They look interesting, but I’m going to wait for someone to review them before I recommend I recommend them to anyone looking for a budget pc

Watching this video on the exact same model, just the i7 with 32GB with the 1tb King Fast SSD. Put a RX 6400 in it and Im going to use it as a stream and emulation box. Switch for everything else. Also forgot, there are two more usb ports under the front panel. I'm going to cut them out. Mine has ten usb ports.

For those who don't know these are just a "beautified" Dell Optiplex 9020 SFF that were used and now off lease from businesses. They have some sort of deal with Microsoft to "refurbish" these (better known as clean and reload) and sell them.

5:30 no you don't have gen 3 support... but you might find that out later... the 3020 uses an H81 chipset so it's only gen 2. Sorry. Speaking from experience as I own this very PC without the bling and with a slightly better (4590) i5. Except the side panel doesn't have the lever so it's making me wonder if this is a 3020...? Anyway. Whatever it is, worked fine with an RX 6400 so I'm pretty confident that would be a good upgrade for me.

The combination of that PCIE 3 lane and that 4th gen i5 is always going to badly bottleneck the 6400 performance. Makes more sense to get a GTX 1650 and a 4th gen i7 with the 8 hyper threads.

Never buy a 1650. There's no point. Either get a 6400 or a the 6600m. The 1650 is an expensive middle ground that doesn't win on performance or even price to performance. It's just overpriced

@@BeefLettuceAndPotato The 1650 and the 6400 are both over priced if you're basing it on pricing to performance ratio. But a 1650 LP shouldn't cost anymore than a 6400 and it will perform better on PCIE Gen 3. A 6400 makes more sense on Gen 4 though. Also a 6600m wouldn't work on a system like this as it draws up to 100W of power and the PCIE lane is limited to 75W.

I just upgraded from the optiplex 9020 to the 7060. It's got an 8th generation intel chip in it. I've got a low profile 1650 video card. I wish there were more youtube videos on the 8th gen Optiplexs.

I got a question so i thought i should ask it to some pro's. I recently got a custom gaming pc but my pc in my opinion makes a decent amount of noise, i must say that i only have the stock fans, 2 in front, 1 cpu cooler. Do i need more fans to quiet my pc down or what do i need to do. I am pretty new to the gaming pc world so any help is appreciated!

Not a pro and not who you asked, but if your fans are running full blast all the time you may need to enable pwm mode so they ramp based on cpu temp.

Either the 6400 which as obvious easy GPU to pop in. Orrrrrrr... That 6600m with a Sata to PCIe power adapter. Quick little under volt and that card sips less than 100w. Untouchable performance for the price
