If it was so easy and money was pouring in everybody would be doing what you do. Obviously not the case. You have a lot of overhead that people tend to forget about, let alone the land and place to keep and store vehicles. You are a hard working man, and I enjoy seeing your adventures. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe a God bless you and your family. Peace

I'm self employed so I fully understand the difference between "Profit " and SURVIVAL. I install HVAC professionally, (16 years ) and in my spare time I do small engine repair. I buy mowers, string trimmers, chainsaws, etc...... from a scrap yard, yard sales, thrift stores and anywhere else I can find them. And then I spend money for parts and then repair them. And THEN I check them out for several days. Just so I can try to sell them to someone who wants to buy them for LESS than I have in them because they THINK I'm making a bunch of money. And then I have the taxes, utilities, and labor if I can get any help. All so I can be broke at the end of the year.

Yea people who have never done this kind of work just don’t understand those numbers and how hard it can actually be sometimes. And like u said u have to fig ur time ur equipment cost ur help cost if u have any help it all adds up the cost to buy the stuff. It’s definitely not all profit for sure. You keep up that hard work and these videos coming. I just love watching. You have a fantastic day.

People never think about your overhead. Those of us that own or have owed a business know all about it. Many think that just because you own a business. That you are wealthy. Truth be told. Us business owners are out here making it day by day just like anyone else. We just have to make more of it to stay afloat.

Thanks for sharing, your a hard working guy ( a dying breed ) ,😉 and have a good eye for the bits and pieces of the culture we have all lived in . It's always a fun video to see what you run across in your part of the country and how you process it . Parts, treasure, or salvage, some of your viewers ( myself included) would love to be able to save so much of what comes through your gates ! Looking forward to your continued growth and success !

Definitely was an interesting day Silas. Thanks for sharing it with us. I love those auctions but my problem is buying more than I sold. People do quickly forget overhead which in part consists of Wages, Fuel costs that have skyrocketed and fluctuating scrap prices. You do a job I would love to do. I know it's work but I've never been afraid of working hard and getting my hands dirty. Until next time. Thanks

Working the motor pile is a job. Taking motors everything you can think of ,old hemi, flathead every small block, knock all pistons out, stripped down to bare block for cast ,pistons for melt down ,nuts and bolts for steel pile . Tools 8 lb maul ,1/2 inch impact, bars to pry out parts, cutting torch to get into parts. Those little winners are stuck to the Xbox controller, not to tools. Those trannys that need cleaned ,no steel in it would be a small gold mine to me. Even pulling clutch packs to get the aluminum pieces at the bottom.

I liked hearing the number crunching breakdown. I'm sure it's hard to keep track of all that stuff when you got the gates open, and multiple jobs going on at the same time. I'm sure there are a lot of self employed people that dont figure in every little aspect but it's the small stuff that adds up and affects the bottom line.

Hi Silas. Great video as always. That 67 Cougar should have an 8" rear in it. Out here in Mass they fetch $250 to $300 for people doing 6 cylinder conversions on their 67-70 Mustangs. You were more than generous paying $1000 per car. Locally they pay $500 if you deliver it to them. You took care of that customer...hopefully he appreciates it.

Calculations like those can really help people a lot if they pay attention. Sooo many people do not include all of the costs of doing business in their thinking. They end up running their businesses based on numbers halfway between gross profit and net profit, thinking they are doing well when they would be better off working on a construction site. You even did an hourly rate for your time, but it would still be valuable to estimate and amortize the equipment and building depreciation, as well as other materials you discussed over your activities. Nice job.

Interior parts on those cougars bring decent money. Bucket seats, consoles, dash parts, side panel covers in the back seat, steering wheels - even needing upholstery or restoration. Hood hinges are cougar exclusive, they don't crossover to mustangs or falcons. To ebay or not ebay, that is the question lol. I know you said parts aren't big in your area. Yea lots of people get upset about people making money without knowing what it takes to make it. The explanation helps some, but for others you couldn't explain enough. They'd be convinced you were being greedy no matter what you said. Thanks for sharing

Business is business. Profit and profit margin overhead maintenance and taxes all add up towards the money collected. Then you have the employed and making sure you quote a fair price for everything.
