Escape To The Dream, Restoring The Château.

Bonjour à tous.
This week at the chateau, we take a look back at when we bought the crumbling Chateau de Lalacelle. Abandoned for over 40 years, this beautiful monument was in a sad state of disrepair, with crumbling chimneys, broken widows and leaking roof, the chateau did not have must life left in her.
With the start of the restoration in 2021 we look through some of the massive jobs in 10 minutes that the family has achieved in a year.
join us on our family journey restoring this beautiful chateau to its former glory.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

Wonderful. As a Frenchman, I thank you for choosing France, choosing this castle, and do all the amazing job you did (and I'm sure you're continuing to do) in it. Without you, it would most probably have fallen even more into decay and would never have find its glory back. I'm glad you were able to make it, despite Brexit. British people will always be welcome in France no matter what. Bises, Jean-Alexandre.

Unfortunately there are many. Historic building laws are quite strict in France, and that's a good thing, but the downside is that many castles on private property are unregistered, or abandoned. There are 45,000 castles listed in France (more than towns and villages !), but there are actually many more, waiting for nice people to take care of them.

I too have been blessed to be able to live in homes that I totally renovated.the first was a old Victorian on the water,in Long island ,n.y. I enjoyed turning into a most beautiful home.however I did not do the work.i told the contract what walls to knock out, making a huge master bedroom, added a ensuite, and French doors out onto a balcony out of this bedroom, all on the 3rd floor of the hse.my dad did all the wallpapering throughout the hse. Each room was redone, and interior decorated by myself.what was purchased for ,$35,000,original conditions, was later sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars many yrs.later. I think of that home often, and to be honest, I miss living in it..it was a dream of a lifetime,I could never have imagined.it was in a Victorian village.covered bridge.horse drawn wagon with Xmas carolers on Xmas Eve,would pass the hse.as the small old church on the corner bell rang out 12 times ( midnite if Xmas Eve.). I was greeted by swans and ducks every morning and during the day as I looked out the big picture window of my dining room ,kitchen and from the master bedroom balcony..o much more memories ..that always puts a smile on my face and gratitude to God Almighty, for the precious time I lived there.thank u for letting me share.live in Georgia now.big hse, beautiful grounds but centerport l.i.,n.y.,will always be in my ❤️ and rememberances.

Wow! Just love love love it. My parents restored an 1850s farmhouse near the Delaware River. There's no joy like bringing a forgotten beauty back to life. Please, though, demonstrate safe restoration work. It's starting to drive me crazy when I watch videos where people are working on buildings and don't wear masks or protective eye gear. I bit my tongue a thousand times watching Shawn James and then he got a splinter in his eye. He now wears protective glasses while chopping and sanding. There's a young Danish boy building a fantastic cabin who never wears any protective gear. Chips are flying everywhere; all it takes is one to blind you or cause serious damage. Just as important is working with a mask, You were not wearing masks when sanding or putting down stains. ANY sanding raises wood dust. When that gets in your lungs it causes a condition akin to black lung. The sawdust irritates the lungs and can do lasting damage. Please be safe! It's so important that those who have an audience demonstrate safe practices. Thanks!

The drive up the tree covered lane to the first incredible view of the home was something. I loved the faded look of the outside of the home and the yard. Going inside and seeing the bottom floor sold me on why you purchased it. Going upstairs had me changing my mind so fast. The thought of the money, the time, the work, and above all the creeping and flying insects would have had me running back outside. As you renovated a room and then revealed it I thought "this is worth it even thought I still would not help in the upstairs portion." I do think it is going to be lovely when all is completed. How many bedrooms and bathrooms? What is the history of the house and the land?

Love to see this. I enjoy the “let’s explore” abandoned mansions but it always feels like such a waste….especially when they could be so damn beautiful. Well done.

Please think about making a book covering your journey to restoring the chateau. People who are lucky enough to stay there will love to purchase it and the rest of us who can only dream about it would like to purchase the book that follows the journey. Best wish and a Happy Mothers Day (here in the U.S.) to Tracy.

Remembering how in those first video she was falling apart - watching the work happen in bursts in some areas and lulls in others ... now since the five of you are there full time the work goes at a steady brisk pace, and she's falling together. Well done guys and huge respect to Tracey.

We inherited a hundred year old haunted house in Texas, and have been here for years and years, without having modernized it much. We couldn't afford it at first, then were so busy working we had no time, so everything is original, 1920s/30s style. We plan to retire to the Gulf of Mexico and sell it to someone who will be thrilled to have this opportunity to be early modern/ mid century! I can't believe how used to a huge old creaking house I became in such a short time! It was way too big for us, but we couldn't resist it, and have never regretted it. If you love a place, you just feel happy there, no matter how much trouble it is...

I've discovered your chanel recently and I started watching all your videos from the begining. You are all incredible people so hardworking and nice, so friendly so alive and even if you work so hard you don't hesitate to do beautiful things like decorations and all the things that comforts the heart. I love your journey so much and I admire your ambition and determination so much, you inspired me to do more things, you showed me that no matter how hard or big is a project you can do it little by little if you keep going. Also I'm in love of France and I want in the future to move there with all my life somewhere in the country side in a nice little cottage. I don't know if you realise how much you inspire people with all of your hard work. Besides the work you do to also film and edit videos. Incredible. I send you big hugs and wish you all the best 🤗
