What about tyres on EVs which does not last as long as ICE due to cars much heavier compared to ICE ? Thoughts on batteries deteriorating and so the range becomes 80% of what it used to be ?

If the government is serious about transition to EV they need to remove road tax or reduce it vs ICE. Not extra $700 ( additional flat component ) because of “ loss of petrol taxes “

Seems like the writer/host seems to nitpick the good points of EV ownership and choose to ignore the outstandingly expensive road tax and insurance. Not forgetting the high likelihood of a total loss of the car in the event of an accident where you can’t change a battery as it is linked to the chassis.

U siam petrol duties so u hv to pay the road tax, it is reasonably price to the equivalent petrol car. If your ev is 600bhp then it will cost u >$6000 as a similar petrol car with the same bhp will consume the same amount of $ petrol. No such thing as u drive 600bhp or 400bhp car but save more than an altis. If u want it cheap, then get a lower bhp ev that is 10s. But u still hv to pay the equivalent in road tax to compensate for the loss in petrol revenue. Moral of the story is u wanna drive, u hv to pay in singapore. No such thing as green so no need pay.😂

Can I ask another hidden question? What is the weight of the BYD seal? I search the Internet some figures provided the unladen weight is 2260kg. This mean that you cannot park in all HDB carparks. EV are heavier everyone is only talking about the charging why nobody ask about the safety aspect as being a heavier car it means during accidents the impact will be so much greater. SUV EV can even weight heavy than a light truck and why no speed limit is impose on them as they will cause a serious damage during accidents

1. ICE car repair and and accident parts will be much easier to replace and cost economics... than any EVs... just look at TESLA repair cost... 2. EVs are a government/world political push... 3. EVs charging cost are rising (fast)... soon, as the EV population hits a "right" percentile, the Charging companies will have par the prices like petrol... e.g. its getting close to a dollar/KW... 4. Its a just a fancy technological advancement... next will be hydrogen... 5. This is just a marketing video... 6. A good hybrid model is still the way to go for now... 7. BTW, do you know servicing at BYD average at 2.5hrs.... "major" mileage service will take at least 3.5hrs... "Nothing" to service compared to ICE... you were saying...?

Issit? I thought Malaysia are slow to adapt to non petrol cars? With petrol so cheap I don't see much motivation to switch? I remember having a hard time finding a place to refuel diesel that's Euro5 and above whereas in SG it's all Euro 5 or 6. We ended up having to pump non Euro 5 diesel in Malaysia as there were only a handful of station offering that and they were so far apart! 7 years ago..

It’s the same as the number of petrol stations now vs the past, infrastructure will update as the number grows. There’s supply wherever there’s demand. But I think most ev owners don’t mind the benefits of majority driving ice, exclusivity of facilities. Just like how ppl can park their ev when everyone else are circling for an empty lot.

Nothing insightful at all. This sponsored video wasn't written by someone who owns an EV. I drove an EV in Shenzhen for two years - it's not low maintenance, it's NO maintenance. Charging can't be avoided - just let it charge while you sleep, EV owners must have chargers where they live. Most users charge on Fridays (for weekends) and Sundays (for working week). The range is very important. There was no comparison between ICE and EV operating ranges. If the Seal range is 500km, it's more than enough for sunny Singapore. Always buy an EV with the longest range you can afford to pay for. Those 30 min charging sessions are just top-ups. For that plug-in steamboat session at the end... the EV had better be fully charged for the evening. Because of the battery, EVs are much heavier than ICEs, which makes them more stable in most situations, but HDB carparks must be prepared to handle the weight eventually. When I moved to Shanghai, I switched to a hybrid, because charging stations are harder to find in an old city. EVs will only be as good as the national infrastructure.

EV seems to be the trend these days. The Govt is putting a high carbon tax on petrol cars to encourage ppl to switch to Hybrids or EVs. The high road tax and insurance some of you commented are for more powerful Cat B EVs and ppl who buy them can easily afford Merc or BMW. I check a Cat A EV have road tax about $1,400 ~ $1,500. Insurance is about $1,200 (for 50% NCD) which are negligible. My next car will be a Cat A EV.
