The main reason we traveled to Indonesia was to visit Komodo National Park, hike to the top of Padar Island at sunrise, and see wild Komodo dragons - and we do all of that in this video! We did a live-aboard for 1 night, 2 days and saw all the best parts of Komodo National Park, including Kelor Island, Manjarite Island, 25,000 bats, Padar Island, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, and a sinking ship... yep!
The islands at Komodo National Park are out of this world. This is a protected area because this is the only place in the world where wild komodo dragons still live (did you know komodo dragons are from Indonesia!?), so the park is in pristine condition! Less than 5% of the park is open to tourists, the rest is closed off for protection and research purposes, which means the Komodo Islands can get busy, but they are so worth the crowds.
Komodo National Park is located in Flores, Indonesia. If you're wondering what to do in Flores, Indonesia, this would be our vote! Some people do a day trip to Komodo National Park, but we would highly recommend doing at least one night on board a boat. This way, not only can you visit Kelor and Manjarite Islands, but you can watch 25,000 bats travel from one island to the next at sunset, AND you can hike to the top of Padar Island for sunrise.
Visiting Padar Island at sunrise is the whole reason we came to this part of Indonesia. We've seen so many beautiful photos and videos of Padar Island, and when we learned it was in Indonesia we knew we had to make that our main goal when we finally traveled to Indonesia. We got lucky with an incredibly clear morning to take in this bucket list sunrise :)
When we booked our boat trip to Komodo National Park, we didn't realize how many other amazing parts of the National Park we would get to see. After Padar Island, we visited Pink Beach which is as cool as it sounds and had stellar snorkelling. And then it was finally time to see the real life komodo dragons! These animals almost seemed fake with how prehistoric they are. They are so big, and so ferocious, and we felt so glad we were able to see them in their natural habitat.
Also, if you watch the video all the way through, you'll spot a shipwreck with us! It had just happened, and was kind of scary because we were on a very similar boat, but thankfully we finished our two day boat trip totally unharmed :)

Hey there! We are Nicole and Mico and in March 2021, we quit our jobs, sold our belongings, and began traveling the world! We never thought we'd be making travel vlogs on KZfaq, but after realizing that we had a unique opportunity to share our adventure and make the world feel more familiar and inviting to anyone watching, we took the leap and picked up the camera! We hope our videos show how wonderful, delicious, and friendly the world can be.

This trip has to be be on my bucket list of trips. I'd even chance the motion sickness on the boat to have this whole experience. And my goodness that sunrise, absolutely worth the before dawn hike!

Couldn't agree more about braving the sea sickness for this trip!! It was definitely worth it, even if I was pretty full of medication the entire time to keep my stomach inside 😂

Awesome video.... we are heading to Indonesia in August 2024, first to Sumatra to do a 3 day hike to see the Orangutáns and then to Komodo National Park for a few days on a boat. I first went there in 1993, so looking forward to going back.

We didn't get to any major cities this time around. We would have loved to, but we also took our time in Indonesia as a bit of a holiday and stuck to the beaches. We can't wait to revisit the country one day and explore the cities!

Hi, did the ship you boarded for the overnight stay allow you guys to do the scuba diving? Or u did it prior to boarding the ship with one of the dive shops on a day trip ?
@nicoleandmico

Hey! We did the diving with a dive shop the day before. It was unrelated to this boat trip. The dives are pricey, but it was so worth it for us!

A ship running aground in well used and known waters close to a harbour is preventable, the seabed should be mapped with buoys marking shallow water too shallow for ships, this should be regulated by government for public safety, this is what institutions are for, this is where countries emerging from poverty to prosperity need to improve. The dragons look fantastic and scary✌️❤️🇬🇧
