Yes, older parts of North America have a good inventory of colonial architecture and look more 'European', for lack of a better word. You get the same feel in Mexico City and older parts of Boston/Philadelphia. That said, Montreal is one of my 2nd favourite world city.

Yeah, of all the largest cities in North America (to the north of Mexico), only Philadelphia, Boston, and Montréal have a good mix of modern American, and colonial/European architecture; Québec, however, stands uniquely in North America (north of Mexico), as it has managed to preserve almost exclusively its colonial architecture, and European culture/heritage.

Glad you enjoyed your visit of my native province. My uncle, Jean-Paul Roy from Drummondville, created the poutine. I still prefer my fries with pure Canadian vinegar (it tastes a lot better than distilled American vinegar - they don't have pure white vinegar). The white cheddar cheese is extremely popular in the province and you can buy it at room temperature. Quebec City is my favourite Canadian city; it is beautiful, the women are lovely, people are very friendly and the history is very interesting. An excellent book to read is: Montcalm and Wolfe - The French Indian war written by Francis Parkman.

@@ryanandtor Well, Montreal's my hometown but I live near Toronto. Around here, people call it a "Parking Garage". It's just a little identifier like if I was in Calgary and was looking for bags of milk people would immediately know that I was from Ontario or Quebec. I had no idea that people in PEI call it that but I know that people in New Brunswick also call it a Parking Garage. I actually really like the term "Parkade" because it makes me think of the fun arcade games that I used to waste my youth and money on. :D

Did you know Montreal was the capital of Canada ? What happened ? English speaking Tory mob burnt down the Parliament building so the Queen has to move it to Ontario . . But nowadays Montréal is still Canada 's capital of culture, history, architecture , design , food , night life , beautiful people , fashion and multiculturalism. A unique city between Europe( London in Old Montreal) and North America . . UNESCO design and creativity like Berlin . Montreal is built on a island 10 times bigger than New York Manhattan ., . I wish Canadians would embrace its French heritage more, as opposed to wrangling with it. The beautiful language and heritage add a richness to Canada , and not benefitted by Anglos trying to appear superior . I am appalled by the lack of respect ( and ignorance) by many Anglos when visiting Quebec- in their negative perception of quebeckers , the history to keep our language and the lack of attempting the French language. Quebec offers the best quality of life and everyone is welcome . I wish all Canadian would understand the history of Canada for the past 500 years and the role of Quebeckers in keeping the culture and identity . Montréal is 400 years of history, architecture, culture , multiculturalism , UNECO design and creativity city like Berlin. Montreal is unique in North America with London , England architecture in Old Montreal . Best food , international chefs , festivals , biggest museum in Canada and parks , best night life and people are nice , open minded , you can be yourself in Montreal and multilingual .. there is no place like Montreal in Canada for its quality of life .
