Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, is a film that grabs life by the ball. Peter LaFleur (Vince Vaughn), is a charismatic underachiever and proprietor of a rundown gym called Average JoeÍs. The facilityÍs clientele of decidedly less-than-average Joes is made up of a self-styled pirate, a scrawny nerd (Justin Long) who dreams of impressing an unattainable cheerleader, an obsessive aficionado of obscure sports, a dim-witted young man, and a cocky know-it-all who, of course, really knows nothing. PeterÍs humble gym catches the eye of White Goodman (Ben Stiller), the power-mullet-sporting, Fu-Manchu-d, egomaniacal owner of Globo Gym, a gleaming monolith of fitness. White intends to take over Average JoeÍs, and PeterÍs non-existent bookkeeping is making it all too easy for him. A foreclosing bank has stationed attorney Kate Veatch (Christine Taylor) inside Average JoeÍs to finalize GloboÍs takeover of the gym. PeterÍs boyish charm wins her over and Kate joins his team of social rejects to beat the odds.

Comedy truly is a dying art. Audiences are not as receptive to boundary-pushing in their media as they once were. I sense a swinging of the pendulum, however, as young people become exposed to more stuff as well as real life. This stuff seems to come and go in cycles. I'm optimistic.

I remember when I was in gym class, my coach thought it would be a good idea to teach us dodgeball with actual wrenches and he said the line. He threw one at me, but it turned out to be a plastic wrench just for laughs. Funniest day ever.

So a lot of people dont really get the guy who didnt know about Steve the Pirate. It’s not that he didnt know they had a pirate. Its that he never saw Steve the Pirate as something weird. Everyone either made fun of Steve or they thought he was weird for acting like a pirate. Except that guy. So when Steve got the makeover at the end, it made no difference to him. Also you guys noticed Amber the cheerleader being pregnant in the end but didnt notice the makeover of that “ugly” woman that got together with one of the protagonists and she looks hot now lol

Fun Fact. At the end when White Goodman said "I won that tournament", he was actually correct. The original ending had it where Global Gym actually won. Literally Average Joes loses and it literally ends with Global Gym celebrating. But of course test audiences didn't like it so they had to reshoot the ending.

The brilliance of this movie is when Owen doesn't know they have a pirate on the team. He isn't being stupid he really thinks there is no pirate on the team and that Steve is just Steve, the guy with his own fashion sense. he accepts him as he is. As raunchy as it is the movie has so much heart.

The original Ending had Globo Gym winning and the film ending with a globo gym celebration. The test audiences didn't like the ending so they changed it. Also, the treasure chest at the end of the movie is labeled "Deus ex machina" which is a wink to th new ending.

This is certainly not a kids movie 😂 but me and my friends went to the movie theaters when this came out and we were all about 10 years old. It's shocking that our parents took us all to this, but we all were laughing our asses off, so I think nobody cared. It didn't seem to harm us.

Ah, Ben Stiller...the good old days when he was in literally everything in my childhood: Madagascar, Night at the Museum, this movie, Walter Mitty (which is a weird but underrated gem) ...Us 2000s kids had it good with Ben Stiller memes! By the way, a new Night at the Museum movie is out on Disney+! Sadly, all of the actors aren't in it, but its animated, so that's an interesting detail! Check out all the Night at the Museum movies, they are gems! 4:34 That's Lori Beth DUnberg, star of the hit 90s Nickelodeon Show All That! The 90s kids were appealed to with this casting choice!

Great collab reaction! My favorite moments are definitely the dodgeball matches especially when we go into sudden death! Ben Stiller was the comedy king in this film! I would love to see the three of you do a collab for Meet The Parents trilogy starring Ben Stiller and Robert DeNero. Another film that’s hilarious with Adam Sandler is Jack and Jill. Not sure if you recognized him but Steve the Pirate is Alan Tudyk who does lots of voice acting and movies. He was Sunny in IRobot, K2SO in Rogue One, king Candy in Wreck it Ralph, he was in Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Firefly, Deadpool 2 (cameo), and A Knights Tale. I personally always loved A Knights Tale and it’s got some crazy actors for the main group, Heath Ledger (Joker), Alan Tudyk, Paul Bettany (Vision/Jarvis in Marvel), and Mark Addy (King Robert Baratheon)
