In the summer of 2020 we took our little X-Air Falcon on its final flight, we had an engine failure at around 800ft, whilst the approach to our landing site was great it all came to a sudden end in the final moments.
The area of the engine failure has a lot of hazards on the ground that you cant see, lots of power lines and cables, the route we took was the safest path.
Rhubarb the X-Air has now been sold to a charity so he will be rebuilt and will fly another day. In his future is lots of flight training for children who would not otherwise be able to taste the pleasures of flight.

Sorry but I am struggling to understand why there are so many comments saying you done well. I have never seen anybody perform a 180 degree turn literally as soon as the engine dies and without taking a look for any potential traffic. I'm not sure you actually know the poor glide rate of the aircraft either or even practiced any forced landings in it, as it was obvious you didn't have enough altitude to make the strip from either direction safely. In this situation you should have performed 1 or 2 S turns at 8:51 to lose some height, then land in the nice long field which doesn't have any sheep which you flew over at 9:06 and you would of had a nice landing. The last turn you made was which was encouraged by the passenger was extremely dangerous and the whole scenario shows you both have very poor judgement. Remember never to push your luck and try to make the field if you are not 100% certain you can make it. It's always better to spend a few hours recovering a complete aircraft from a farmers field than to smash it up. Hopefully you learnt something from this landing/accident for if it ever happens again.

I agree. While it is inevitable that humans will make mistakes, I wouldn't call this "well done", but rather a fine example to learn from. That turn into final had me clenching.

Should have landed straight ahead, they had room so I can’t see why she made the last-second left turn, and ran out of height to go level and flare. That thing glides like brick.

Brilliant that You were both so calm and composed , near perfect landing just unfortunate that the field let youz down. Really glad you're going for another aircraft and that it hasn't put either of you off .

Thank you for posting this video, that is not easy to do but it helps us all. When you look back you can probably think of all the things that you could of have done different, and that is not a valid thought. The surprise factor, the time left, the options to take, there is so much to consider in a few seconds time. You both did a wonderful job and walked away with no injuries, which is remarkable. I am so sorry about your airplane, so pretty and so well taken care of.

I've read the report on this. I had a very similiar engine problem. I lost engine power at 85ft just after take off, it didn't shut off because as soon as it coughed a few times, I pulled it to idle and made the decieion to land. I did land and no injuries to Pax or me. The report for Rubarb will be almost identical to mine regarding engine setup / no electric fuel pump / vapour lock. Mine was also in September. It wasn't my aircraft, but I was PIC. The pilot here did a great job! X-Airs are bricks in the sky, when the engine goes. Nose down and don't stall it. She did a exceptional job here.

How can you get vapour lock in a fuel system that long after engine start????
@Guy_6397
@Guy_6397 4 ай бұрын
The fuel pipes running close to hot engine components can suffer from the fuel 'boiling' inside, which causes the vapor lock. I've experienced the same in an EV97
