Guest of the week on the Friderikusz Podcast is Júlia Sonnevend, a media researcher who went to the US in 2006 for her PhD and now she is a lecturer in sociology at the New School for Social Research in New York.
Her interest focuses on the magical elements that define contemporary societies: while her first book explored how historical events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall become global myths, her current work is about the magical quality of human relationships attraction.
Her research suggests that in history, and even in our own personal destinies, we repeat simplified legends, myths, and even myths that contain only a single element of truth, that we believe and that they irrefutably determine our judgements, and that modern man is increasingly making decisions based on careful reflection, experience, learning and careful consideration of objective facts.
In her forthcoming book, she also argues that the personal charm and charisma of personalities who stand out from the social average are more powerful in enchanting us and determining our opinions and decisions than we might reasonably think.
