honestly, while that scene at the end is pretty shocking for the viewer, ive always appreciated it a LOT for the georgeous art direction and especially the sound design. the way sudden silence, the viewer thinking "huh? why is it so quiet?" to crocodiles (honestly unfairly sexy😭) voice, to the dripping of the blood and slowly, the sounds of the winds coming back - its genius. i adore that scene!!!! even though its pretty fucked up how luffy is like. basically being skewered...

Smoker is one of my favourite "enemies" of our crew. Also, appreciate and really soak in Zoro's laugh, it's a special thing.

Luffy vs Crocodile in the desert was the moment we truly found out that there are people whose ability makes them stronger than Luffy. Smoker was just the introduction to Logia, Ace gave us a glimpse of what it can do and Crocodile is the first to show what it can do in the wrong hands. The way the powersystem is laid out is just another one of Oda's masterfully crafted story telling devices.

Crocodile is such a great villain, he's so scary. Also the reason Crocodile wants to keep attacking Yuba because it is an oasis and if it isn't ruined there will be water for the people and they wouldn't be so despereate without the rain.

I've always interpreted Crocodile's worried face when he first tanks the bazooka as him getting a read on how strong Luffy is. He can't hit him, but evidently Luffy's swinging hard enough that getting hit would be something to worry about.

Oda rarely gets to flex his prose since he mostly writes dialogue and our main characters are usually not the poetic type, so when he writes as the narrator he usually drops some good lines I like that you noticed this.

The manga version of the Bananagator sequence was slightly funnier in my opinion. After Smoker pointed out the one with the key it cut away entirely, and we didn't see what actually happened until the next chapter. Instead we got the part where Crocodile revealed the key was fake, and then the cliff hanger was him coming back to the room to find everybody gone and just Mr 3 and Sanji's note left behind.

In the first English dub, the one made by 4Kids, Luffy commented like "Deserto Girasole" looked like a "Desert Toilet" so Crocodile replied that Luffy was "Desert Doodoo" as he was the one in the desert toilet

In the end the voice actor killed it, his voice was perfect, you can feel the malevolence, the arrogance and the utter rage inside of him.

To answer your question about "Why Yuba?" we only have to acknowledge one universal truth in the One Piece universe. Crocodile is just the pettiest bitch to ever sail the seas. He goes out of his way to torment others and express his disdain for people in general and especially those who have, in his view, naive ideals. His actions have made it clear that he has a chip on his shoulder about people and relationships in general that hints at some kind of event in his past; you guys have gotten a few showings of this so far. Just to name a few that have already happened : 1. He immediately issued that assassination order for Mr. 3 just because Sanji gave him a "false report" when he said the Unluckies had been some Strawhats that had a bit of fight left. Not to mention he equated an incorrect report with "lying" to him. 2. He purposely structured his Alabasta takeover plan to revolve around getting the citizens and the government to kill each other out of love for their country. 3. He taunted Vivi and pretended to give her some hope of saving the Strawhats by presenting them with a challenge; but with a fake key. 4. He straight up told Luffy that relationships just cause you problems and it's better to cut off such things. 5. Yuba - It may have initially been tactical because it was an oasis for that region of Alabasta but, once he'd ruined it enough that it was just Toto left, I think he was doing it specifically out of spite for Toto's unwavering faith in King Cobra and his determination to not give up no matter what. He probably sees Toto's perseverance as an eyesore to him and his plans. So yeah, in short, Crocodile is one of the pettiest and most bitter pirates to sail the seas and his main source of joy for his shriveled, sandy heart is making it everyone else's problem.
