Over here on the East Coast the regulations have gotten real tight with the striped bass we are allowed to keep one slot fish between 28 and 31 inches the regulations on these fish have changed a lot over the years

As a person originally from New Jersey, but now living in Washington, that is probably the best fish you could’ve gotten. 23.5 is illegal size for people in the Northeast. It’s usually closer to 28 depending on your state. Sorry you didn’t get one but they are fun to fight. I would recommend NJ, or Montauk NY for surf fishing for striped bass which is the surf fishing Capital. They can be fished at night with plugs or bait and can get up to 50lbs or so. Also Bluefish on light tackle make fun for some fun surf fishing if striped bass ain’t biting.

With the Salmon run in PNW I think Fish and Game are worried about it effecting the ecosystem.

Striped Bass were brought to SF Bay from east coast. Late 1800s. Considered invasive species.They are now prolific from Sacramento Delta south. They are a mercury heavy fish. I don’t eat much of it.
