In today’s vlog we hang out at home! We start with some morning playtime with Jackson. He’s been learning so many words so fast and he finally learned the word no lol. Then we add in some of the vlog we filmed where we tried Portillos and Insomnia Cookies for the first time. Both were great! Then it’s dinner time so we make some pasta. Afterwards we have an after dinner walk where we find some leaves and tiny acorns to put in our basket. After Jackson goes to bed then we have a pizza conundrum but quickly solve it, hopefully our oven comes in soon! We hope you had fun hanging out at home with us tonight! Thank you for watching and we’ll see you tomorrow with a new vid!

Portillos!!! My absolute favorite restaurant. I’m from Illinois so I eat it all the time. Tips and recommendations for you guys: To order the beef just ask for an Italian Beef dipped with hot peppers. And Tim it is completely okay to add cheese to it Get the cheese fries!!!!! They are so good Definitely try a Chicago style hot dog, I swear I could live off of them it has celery salt, peppers, onions, tomatoes, sweet relish, mustard and a pickle spear that sits on top. There’s a lot to it but I promise it’s delicious Try the chocolate cake or chocolate cake shake (or both hehe) Try the chopped salad Glad you guys enjoyed it!!

I enjoy your home vlogs so much. Jackson’s vocabulary is unbelievable! He is so adorable and really smart. I think you both are doing an amazing job. ❤️ Tim, you asked about the grill pan. So growing up my mom would use regular dish detergent, add water and slowly boil it for a bit on top on the stove. Then you let it rest until it’s cooled off and then just wash it out. I have to tell you that it works like a charm and I’m still using that method til this day. Thank god for Moms!

Also heat up your pan and heat water to hot and get the chain mail cleaner scrubber or Heat the pan and throw a couple pieces of ice in there. To create steam. I also season my pans differently. I do it like you do blackstones. I also use the blackstone seasoning oil. Heat pan high rub with the oil and then let it smoke off until smoke is gone. 3-4x open your windows and turn on fans or do it on the grill outside.

I use a copper scrubby. But, I'm a chef and at work we've used a wire brush and a hooked scraper ( a steel rod that is bent at the end) to clean the grill. Just as long as you re-season, you can use most any scraping tool.

NEVER EVER put soap on cast iron. Cast iron is porous. You put soap (ANY AMOUNT) in it and it will “get into” the iron & cannot be removed. Only ever use water, dry & heat the pan/skillet/etc. to bake any water out of the iron. Let partially cool and season…ask any “cast iron chef” & that’s what they’ll tell you. Take care & good cast iron cooking!

Chicago native, so it was awesome to see you try Portillos. Cheese on a beef is no problem. The peppers in oil were giardiniera. Sport peppers is what will usually go on a regular Chicago dog. I have 5 kids myself ages 14 down to 3 months. I was wondering (not in a rude way) why you eat a different dinner time than Jackson? For the grill pan you can heat it up with dawn and water in it the let is soak a bit, then scrub with dawn power wash and a scrub brush, I like the one from grove collaborative, the bristles are stiffer. 😊

For your grill pan, get a chain mail scrubber. They are amazing for cleaning cast iron with just warm water! If you have sticky oil built up you can actually turn it upside down in the oven with some foil on the shelf below to catch the drippings and heat it at 400-425 until it drips off. That can take multiple hours. You might be using too much oil when seasoning it. When you do that you can get a thick layer of build up instead of the thin “non-stick” layer you’re trying for. Hope that helps!

Being that I’m from Chicago watching you guys go to Portillos makes my heart smile. The Chicago way of ordering the “meal” is a dipped Italian beef with hot peppers, fries with cheese on the side or on the beef and a chocolate cake shake! The salads are really good and the maxwell hotdogs are amazing as well. If you get the regular hotdog, ask for Chicago style which is the hotdog on a sesame bun with a pickle, tomatoes and mustard. Portillos has really good shakes too! I live in California and go to the one across from knotts berry farm! It’s really good! The chocolate cake shake is my favorite! But I always get the strawberry shortcake! So amazing!!

wire brush to scrub the baked on stuff. oil and season on the grill or in the oven. I reseason on the grill so I don't smoke up the house. Once it's reseasoned a couple of times, when you use it, scraped the crud from the grooves and oil each time after you use it put on the grill for a few minutes,, let cool and wipe with a wet towel and oil it again and put away . I've done this for years and that's the way I was taught. the grooved pans are harder to season but are worth it!

My grandma Judy used to go to that original hot dog cart in Chicago when she was young, and every year when I was a kid we took a trip to Chicago and would go to the first portilllos we found. So glad they’re finally in Florida :)

Always love a home vlog, you guys have been working so hard on all the spooky vlogs and editing etc. so it`s good to see you not so busy.I`m assuming Jackson`s doing ok with a babysitter as Jenn`s been in a few more vlogs, and hopefully you are getting more comfortable with it and can relax.......it`s hard to leave them at first.

Soooo, I am the one on my house that puts chocolate in the fridge haha. I love cold chocolate but my son and husband don't. The system we have is, if it's chocolate for me it goes right into the fridge but if it's chocolate for with of them it goes in the pantry😂. Jackson is just the word master now! I love hearing him talk, it's so darn cute haha. Huge hugs and love to you guys xoxo

Hi Tim and Jenn! We live in Illinois and have been going to Portillos for over 45 years. Next time, order the beef with cheddar cheese and ask to have it Baptized. That’s when they dip the entire sandwich in gravy. Delicious! Jen and Joe xo

Place a small amount of non-abrasive soap or detergent in the middle of your grill pan. Using steel wool, a scrubber, or sponge, scrub down all surfaces on the pan with the soap and a small amount of hot water. Rinse the grill pan with hot water.

A good tip I did with both my kids is rotate toys, have a box of toys they like stored away and in 2 months bring them out and then they’ll be brand new to him and some of the toys he’s been playing in the mean time rotate and put in the box and store them away. Just keep rotating and so forth until he ages out of the toys.

Chicagoan here sending you a big welcome to Portillo’s ! There’s a method to the madness. You’ll get the hang of it. Sport peppers are those lovely vinegary hot peppers that they put on Chicago dogs. I always order extra and munch all night. Hot and super vinegary, I love ‘em. Cheese is good with all the beef samiches, but that beef and cheese croissant is my absolute favorite item on the menu! The hotdogs have a really snappy texture. I thought it was funny that Adam (of the house, Woo) thought the dogs were too “tough.” We call it “snappy” instead of tough.

Re: Jackson's toys. Yes donate but one of the best tips I got for when my kids were young was to rotate toys. So get bins, like 3 to 4, and put toys in the bins and put those in storage. Then every few months put the toys that were out in a bin in storage and take out a new bin. He'll be excited to play with the toys he forgot about and you don't have a ton of toys out everywhere!

Jenn - we make regular brewed coffee in the morning and make a large pot so we have extra to put in a pitcher in the fridge for iced coffee another time. The coffee will last some time in the fridge. If you only drink iced coffee you might want to just make a full pot and put pitcher in fridge that will last you few days. Just a thought.
