Three things I learnt 1.Use a heat gun on the fuel line instead of hot water put some dielectric grease/silicone spray on the metal fuel line.2.use dielectric grease/silicone spray on the filler hose & overflow hose to make them go on easier (both are better than WD-40) 3.heat both plastic & metal lines before & during fitment.Cheers.

The trick to working with that tubing is to heat the metal tube up as well. If you don't heat up the metal fuel line, when the plastic tube comes in contact with it, it immediately cools the plastic. By using a hot towel wrapped around the metal line, you'll prevent the plastic from cooling too quickly.

I get such a kick out of watching a video on an EXTREMELY POPULAR channel, and seeing them using rechargeable power tools. I sit back and wait for the explosion! (that OBVIOUSLY never happened) Do they REALLY forget about the sparks off of the motor brushes? BRUSHLESS tools SHOULD be ok, as long as they are VARIABLE control. Straight toggle on/off MIGHT still spark. It takes an honest man to make a mistake, and eat it, without "caught". Strong conscience!

I've never had hot water stay 'hot' for 10 minutes maybe 5 if your lucky. Normally to get on I have to refresh it at least every 3-5 minutes or use a metal cup and a mini/cup heater, that works great. If non fuel I use a soapy mixture, it helps with the sliding bit, never use silicone oil/grease as it stays slippery enough the hose can walk off literally by itself as it never dries.

I diid learn something about those shrinking fuel lines. Experience Tips are always welcomed. I do go " Crazy " and clean up. It's personal pride to leave no evidence. Also should a future leak would occur, the exact location is easily pinpointed. I find it quite useful in chasing oil leaks.

I would recommend lubricating the metal tube with a light coating of brake fluid since it contains silicone and won’t harm the motor.
@johnbower
@johnbower 4 ай бұрын
Two reasons not to do that, (a) yes lubrication will help the tube to slide on but will also help the tube to slide off, (b) brake fluid is likely to damage the rubber fuel hose, as fuel hoses are generally made of nitrile rubber whereas brake hoses are made of EPDM rubber.

A heat gun or a hair drier is all I use to install those repair hoses. That plastic cools off way too fast to get them on all the way when using the hot water method. That's one of those repairs where whoever did it should never work (or attempt to work) on a vehicle. Vaseline works real good lubing up a hose to get them on.
