The ocean glass colours are absolutely stunning, the test strip is a Peice of art itself, lots of muddling colours. The scene where the waves come in was so cool!! Such a lovely area. Whitby is such a fin place to go hunting for treasure. We found some nice chunky bits of jet and a couple of silver coins last time, but also what later turned out to be a 6 ounce iron-nickle meteorite.

Happy birthday, dear Alex. 🎂 By the way, my husband and I bought a rock tumbler because we collected a ton of little Lake Michigan battered rocks. I think they are mostly granite but some are really pretty. And I actually found a little hagstone and a piece of what I think is yellow carnelian. I was thinking of you both as I was bending over collecting the little stones. Doing my own wee mudlarking. Lol. ❤️ Be well.

I found a star Crinoidea years ago but couldn’t identify it (pre internet days and the local museum had no idea). I was just sitting in the beach letting the sand run through my fingers and felt the weird shape. So thank you for helping identify that.

Happy birthday Alex 🎂, really lovely jet. Since I am an ancient goth, jet makes the best (and lightest) jewellery, so black and it has a texture different to other gems and glass.

The black pebbles with the honeycomb pattern look similar to Petoskey stones from the Great Lakes.

Fossilized coral is found around the world. Check eBay for chrysanthemum coral fossil and you will find much of it dyed, made into pendant beads and cabochons and jewelry.

Interesting !! The black pieces that you name "jet gemstones", our traditional healers call them "gaga" in Darija ( moroccan language), but they say that they are fossillized bones of humpback whales, and they make amulet-pendants from them to be used as a protection against the evil eye. Thanks for sharing. 🤗

Your videography went above and beyond this time. My favorite piece, and the epitome of our current times, is when Alex was filming Gail walking towards Will and Tom and how big the boys' smiled, it was perfectly beautiful! I have buckets of coal I've picked up on the coast of North Carolina, I'll try them on the sand paper, as they say jet can be found there too. Is there a certain type of sand paper? Lovely video. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX. Wow what an interesting video. Whitby looks such a lovely place, reminded me of the Fife coastal villages. Fabulas treasures and the pendant is lovely. The one type of stones you found look a lot like the petrosky stones. These are found in Michigan USA.

The black stones were beautiful, the fossils are always wonderful and amazing and the ocean glass is beyond amazing. Kansas has fossils and I have found several over the years. The latest was coral in a small gray stone. The coral was in the shape of a Y. My maiden name started with a Y so that was special for me and it was in my driveway! Happy belated birthday Alex! I love that your family all get together on your birthday for a beach hunt, it makes it so much more special ❤. I have just been on one of my groups on Facebook and someone had found one of the turtle like pebbles and a lovely lady kindly identified and explained it for them. I thought you may find it interesting, I know I did. It’s waste from the alum mining process. Shale was quarried and then heated in clamps to oxidise ( turns red) the shale to allow the release of alum which was collected as liquor. The pattern is caused by the shale near cracks in the rock being oxidised while the shale further from the cracks stays black.

We DO have a name for belemnites; they are called "donnerkeile" (thunder wedges); I remember finding them by the dozen as a kid digging through the clay dug out in the construction of a house.

Wow, it seems like yesterday we were celebrating your last birthday, wasn't it with your brothers? Y'all found so many amazing treasures, the "ocean glass" is so pretty plus all the other unique stones were awesome finds. How about those fossils...just to know they were living creatures so long ago is too cool. It was nice to see one of the "Shwoo's", they're so adorable. Happiest of Birthdays🎂🎉🎁🥂💐 I hope you had an amazing birthday. What a blessing it is to go on such adventures with your Mum. My nephew own about 200 acres of land and there is an old dump site on top of the hill. When it rains old dishes, bottles and pottery washes down. I have really enjoyed walking the creek looking for old treasures. Going up to the dump site this winter, when it is not 102 degrees and the snakes are hibernating. Great finds for you and your Mum.
