The condensing unit is pointed the wrong way. On every mini split I have seen, the fan on the outdoor unit blows the warm air out. Mounting the unit so the condenser fan faces the back of the car would be much more efficient so it isn't fighting wind blowing at, but rather exhausting the hot air into the low pressure environment behind the unit and assisted by the wind.

I'm an hvac technician here and airplane technician. You right in technical but not practical. The condenser just need air flow. Let say wind overpowering the unit. Then it will cool down. That why he was freeze. Could it got colder the other way? An object in motion stay in motion. So if flip it, instead of it catching air. The air would be leaving it faster but how much air can return? Not much. It would be an vacuum and it could overheat. This is why your radiator is on your front of the car. If you ask me what the best idea is the flip the fan blade to suck in the air. It would be cooler then. It would have more fresh air.

@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 2 жыл бұрын
@@biggdogg33 Depending on the speed, it obviously could work to some extent. However, at a certain speed where the air speed leaving the fan equals the air speed hitting the fan, the condenser's airflow will theoretically be almost zero. For example, 20 MPH wind hitting 20 MPH wind equals 0 MPH, virtually no airflow, and much more stress on the condenser fan motor than necessary. Flip the unit 180 degrees and it will work like the engine's radiator- primarily cooled by ram air while driving with a puller fan behind it to help out. For the same work and cost, may as well make it as efficient as possible.

the issue with the inverter is probably the inrush current or the starting current which is usually a lot higher than the sustained load current there are work arounds for this.
@radio4active
@radio4active 2 жыл бұрын
Most inverters spercify the peak power, and can only sustain 50% of the rated capacity. To drive an air conditioner, it's best to buy an AC that has an inverter driven compressor as they avoid most of the inrush current problem that a regular compressor has and start more gracefully. Finally, most inverters output a modified sine wave. Motors will work with those but will not run very efficiently.

I am not that familiar with air conditioners, but my place's A/C is central air. My temperature is set to 25.5°C (78°F) to reduce my electrical bill and CO2 emissions. I wonder what the efficiency of a mini-split A/C is compared to central air, vs. window A/C vs. a heat pump. I'm betting the heat pump would be the most efficient, then mini-split or central. Window A/C seems to be the least efficient, as heat from outside may leak through the A/C if not installed properly. ;)

I drive a big Dodge conversion van. One of those with the raised roof, and plush interiors with wood cabinets etc. Last year, in August, I planned a road trip from Pennsylvania to wherever the road took me. One week before my trip, the AC in the van blew a seal and died. No time to fix it before the trip. So I planned my trip to stay as far north as possible. Because you'd figure that the farther North you were, the cooler it would be, right? Sound logic. But just in case, I did take along one of those free-standing, portable AC units that you can put in a room and route the vent hose out of a window. I made a vent to fit one of the little sliding windows of the van, ran a drain tube through the floor by removing the rear table socket and passing the tube out under the van and installed a rack to carry my 3500 watt Inverter generator on the back. A trial run proved that it worked very well. It got FREEEZING inside with the AC set to maximum. Perfect! I got to North Dakota and Montana... It was 105 degrees F!! (40 C) When parked, the thing did work well. But when moving down the interstate at 75 mph, it just did barely nothing. The unit would stop cooling randomly, and not kick in again for 20 to 30 minutes, then run for maybe 10 minutes and kick off again. But if I drove slow, like through a small town or when I was at Yellowstone, it worked great. (The exhaust of the generator DID have a spark-arrestor on it!) I had proper voltage and current to run the unit. But for some reason it just wouldn't run properly when moving at highway speeds. Only the vent hose was outside, and it was shielded from any air blowing back up into it, preventing proper airflow as well. In fact the vent I made for it was facing the rear, and should have taken advantage of the low-pressure area behind the vent-cover (like a dryer-vent turned sideways) to help draw the exhaust air out even better. I don't know what the issue was, but the damn thing didn't work how I wanted it to.

@@SwapBlogRU Hi. Thanks for asking. (And thanks for keeping on with your amazing work translating the G54 videos!) Unfortunately, at 105F or 40C, It was just hot air blowing in. I myself, would be more comfortable in the winters of Novosibirsk, rather than the summers of Northern US. Temperatures that many people would consider comfortable, would be unbearably hot to me. I prefer colder temps to the point that I rarely visit friends, and when I do, I suffer in their homes, sweating and complaining about them "leaving the oven on." As to why I have such low tolerance for high temperatures: About 15 years ago, I had a job with a company that went into steel mills and power plants to provide cleaning of the boilers and removing any debris that falls off of conveyors and the like. At one zinc smelting plant I was assigned to remove spilled raw materials from above the "Burner floor" The burner floor being where the raw ore was processed and "cooked" to smelt the zinc. On the platforms above that, where I and one other person were working, was about 140, to 150 degrees F (60 to 65.5 C) After about 15 minutes there, wearing full "tyvek" suit, over my mandatory long-sleeved shirt and pants, respirator, hardha,t Steel-toe and metatarsal boots, gloves and other PPE, I began to go dizzy. I told my co-worker that I needed to go get a drink. After that point, the next thing I remember was my foreman asking me what day it was, who's the president etc. I was in the foreman trailer having no idea how I got there. Two plant workers doing a random safety check found me wandering aimlessly in a disused area without any PPE on. After I came to, I was given a check-up, and told to remain with the foreman in the trailer for observation. Later, at a different job, I "fell out" again from heat. Again I blacked out and had to be removed from the site to get cooled down. Ever since then, I can not endure any warm temperatures for extended periods of time. When working outdoors in the summer, I wear a white hat soaked in water, and drape a wet towel around my shoulders. I keep them wet, and will go inside to cool off as needed, no matter how often that is. So with that, having the window down would not have helped at all. The only possible reprieve from the hellish heat would have been the blowing air evaporating the sweat as it poured out of me. I now say, "The cold is far better than the heat. You can always put on a jacket or another layer if you're cold. But you can not take enough off, and even could be naked in the heat and suffer."

A possible solution is that the inverter you are using is a Modified Wave inverter. A pure wave inverter is what you should be using. It handles the demand a lot easier. Also I have attempted to use a heating pad on an inverter and it would light up just fine but would not heat. I looked closer and the heating pad only works at 60hz which my inverter was only putting out 50. This might have something to do with your issue. MAYBE!

For the inverter issues. You really want a pure sine wave, low frequency inverter. The other issue is that a compressor in an AC is typically always going to be starting with a far bit of load on it. So really need 50% or grater margin for your inverter. (id recommend like 2KW)

The 12>240v inverter you were using would work for the running current. However like most indicative loads, there's a larger in rush current that the inverter isn't capable of handling. If & when you get around to this, use a inverter that's twice the capacity of the AC unit itself. However I'm not familiar with a Lada's alternator capacity so I don't know if it can handle such a unit by itself.

That's why i buy Japanese, daikin , hitachi , Mitsubishi,ogeneral (fujitsu) , Panasonic have much better quality parts and design than what i have seen with lg , samsung, whirlpool, midea. My budget favourite is Panasonic.

There are aluminium clad copper pipes, but those seem pure aluminium, although the part of the video where they cut it is quite dark, the reflection of the internal copper may not be seen due to lack of light. Anyway home fridges have used aluminum pipes and aluminum evaporators for decades with no problems, at least in Europe.

@@ruben_balea i have seen refrigerators use steel or iron pipes. I had an Electrolux fridge (videocon) & it had steel pipes that rusted after 15yrs of use and leaked out all the gas , it ran like that for almost a day before we noticed & then i replaced that section of the pipework with copper but it was a pain in the ass to solder that. I had to use a silver rod .

@@KuntalGhosh Well, European ones have aluminium evaporators but usually also steel pipe condensers, and yes, if rusted they are almost imposible to solder... If you sand them to shiny steel even phosphor copper rod will solder them but for some reason (I saw a warning in a book but they didn't explain the reasons) it will corrode, only silver rods seem to be good.

probably the converter was a square wave converter and you needed a sine wave converter. they are more expensive but most refrigeration equipment requires sine wave

It's meant for a room 3metres x 4 metres putting it in a car which might be 1.2 to 1.5 cubic meters is an over kill so it will get a hell of a lot cooler .

I think it's likely that the inverter could have powered the AC, but the alternator couldn't provide the inverter with enough power and power the car at the same time. A larger, or second alternator might run it off the alternator without a generator in the trunk.

I am in to inverters (mains converters) You will probably find that the alternator is not big enough to run the invertor! at a guess your going to need an alternator minimum output of 100 amps

you should try that kind of cooler that the thermo controlled semi-trailers using it can cool down the cab even -20 celsius :D

Your alternator couldn't put out enough amps to make the converter produce enough watts. If you drove the generator dynamo with a belt from the lada engine and use that electricity it would work :)

Any thoughts on trying a horizontal front spring setup, like that on the Rover P6? Be interesting to see how a Lada would handle with such a setup.
