You may want to consider wearing a safety harness when excavating that well just in case. I would not give up on it considering the contents that await you. Congrats on the ring find. Very cool!

it's neat and all but don't you worry about impacting the structural integrity of your home's floor joist by removing compaction of soil ?

I'm glad ya'll knew better than to jump down in that well. You could see on the left side of the bottom where the water had been draining down. It has to have a place to go or that hole would have filled in with mud. No relic's worth getting buried with...alive. Enjoyed the hunt and I'm glad you guys know what time it is!

I'd have to dig it out by myself. Flopping around in a two foot crawl space would surely cause me to fart.

If it was me, and it NEVER would be me crawling under that house, I would harness up and secure a rope so if there is a deep void, you wouldn’t fall far.

Trav, how old are the houses? It's odd to find a privy next to a well. I think you're right that well is ancient. It's probably as old as the town. Could even have been the town's common well. My guess would be it went dry than used as a trash dump. Don't want to see anyone get hurt but it would make a really cool vid.🤔
