We "found" and partially repaired a Legendary German 88 Flak/ Anti-Tank Gun (this particular one is the 36/37 Flak) from WW2, abandoned by Yugoslav Forces (JNA) in nearly working order. Join us on our misson through abandoned bunker tunnels & sea-side Roman Palace Ruins on the way to reach it.

The device with gauges on it is a fuse setter, it times the fuse so the shell will explode at the right altitude.

This weapon came out in 1928. The other one you mentioned 128cm flak 40 was designed in the 30's and came out in 42. 128 mm, high velocity gun was used on the German Flak Towers that guarded the big cities from Allied bombers. Don't be surprised if some museums and collectors ring you up, this is quite a find being it's in such good condition.

Haha I'd be the wrong guy to talk to if they do. It's on a national park which is one of the main reasons I think it hasn't been looted. The garage shelter also saved it. The thing is amazing but I don't think it will go anywhere anytime soon, I'm just glad I got to share it. Thanks for watching!
@nriqueog

@@TattooedTraveler They'd probably just want location confirmation. Guys looking for collectables like this usually know how the govt. system works and who to talk to. It's a good thing it's been in that bunker all this time, otherwise it would be rusty junk by now. You're a lucky guy to have gotten to see it up close. Here's hoping some Military Museum get's it's hands on it and saves it.
@TattooedTraveler
@TattooedTraveler Жыл бұрын
@@nriqueog yeah, this was a really unique one. That shelter definitely saved it. There's a few other 88s throughout the country but they are almost completely corroded. I enjoy showing people these things, especially in person when I get the chance. It's always great to see their reactions lol.

That Flak 88 is in incredibly good condition still after being left out in the covered, but basically open Air. That local climate is helping to keep things in pretty good condition.
@TattooedTraveler
@TattooedTraveler Жыл бұрын
This garage thing saved it for the most part, by far this is the best example in the country and maybe even the world (outside of a museum) there are maybe 10-15 others but they are rusted hulks these days. Climate can change pretty quickly here, but the additional wall towards towards the sea also saved it.

Where is the breechblock??... FYI Americans can and do legally own and operate cannon like this or similar as long as the propellant is loaded into the breech in bags, not already packed into shell casings .. No permit or licence required for this ..Target practice is fun but very expensive, and usually exploding projectiles are not allowed. Muzzle loading cannons are perfectly legal. and people make cannons sized to shoot bowling balls, out over the ocean for fun. They can shoot a couple miles or so.xpensive hobby, and popular with civil war reenactors ,

That is incorrect. It was first used in the antitank role by the Condor Legion in Spain during the Spanish Civil War years earlier. The 88 was designed as a multi-role weapon from the start, and had sights and firing tables designed for both antitank, antipersonnel, and antiaircraft work.

At 14:00 there‘s a useful insect on the wall. They’re friendly critters that have a sting and they prey on basically any other insect coming near them. Very, very fast.. Scutigera is the name I think. Darn.. the 88 🫠

What a great find ! nice it is still somewhat "functional" I think there should be some locking system to lock it down while firing capable of 15 or more shots per minute out to 10000 metres it was a very quick weapon to get into operation , remember that the automatic shell ejection could break your leg as the fired casing ejected The British had a somewhat better gun the "3.7 inch" it outranged the 88 but was slow to get into action , a heap of 3.7s were abandoned in france early on . The fact that germany took over huge numbers of captured field guns is often forgotten . they also got the captured factories & slave laboured munitions. The terrible war is not taught about enough! ....There is FAR worse now available in our world but crazy religious & political stupidity still rules .. I was trained on 3.7s got them up to 20+ shots per minute!! ...Dangerous! Thanks guys ..take care!

Just been to the gun in Mljet with my 11 year old son. I can confirm it has seized up again. Got it to move laterally a few cm. No vertical movement. Was a little perturbed to find a shell case in situ inside the barrel with what appeared to be the percussion cap in situ!! BTW found your discarded oil spray can, really bad form to leave that in a bush in the national park chaps.
