Not surprised you came to the same conclusion that a lot of folks have. The Ranger Tug is first on my list with the Cutwater just a step below. I have no idea what’s going on with boat designers these days - a pull out toilet? A head you can’t stand up in? No emergency cabin egress or ventilation? When you sacrifice style for practicality, you end up with neither. Less than ten or fifteen years ago you could easily get a trailerable boat that could sleep a small family of four for a weekend, some in the 23’ to 26’ foot range. Now it seems they’re really chasing the South Florida market with the open bow concept which sacrifices cabin room AND makes the boat less seaworthy in rough water.

You are spot on my friend. I still remember the days that the Florida sportsman magazine had Dusky advertising their 20ft center console with trailer and a 150hp outboard for $29,995 plus tax. You could get a walk around cabin boat in the 26’ range for under 80k. I think boat manufacturers are out of touch with the middle class consumer and are all chasing the bigger flashier market. It’s crazy!

Great comment! Spot on. Manufacturers have leaned way into center consoles and outboards (and that “look at me” party Florida market!). Center consoles eliminate family shelter from the elements, privacy, overnighting, etc. Outboards are the power of choice for a bunch of reasons (ease of maintenance, efficiency, etc.), but chew up cockpit area (relative to LOA) and swim platforms. This video was a fun, pragmatic topic. Nicely done by the channel!

The Solara 250 has a long track record. It was originally marketed as the inboard-powered Cutwater 24 (thus that huge under-deck lazarette), then evolved into the outboard-powered Cutwater 248, and now Solara has been spun off into its own subsidiary. The amount of interior room is amazing for a boat that can be trailered without an oversize load permit.

Cabin/pilot house boats are awesome boats to be able to spend a weekend out on the water and they can be found with lots of comfort as well. Awesome video 👍

So, just for something to think about. You mentioned going to Bahamas, when your going to be out in open waters from Miami to Bahamas, it’s better to have 2 engines in case one goes out for some reason, you can always use the second engine to get you back to land. Just an FYI

Yeah I can see that. The problem is that most issues (with newer four strokes) isn’t a mechanical failure it’s a fuel issue. Specifically, water in fuel. And in that case it doesn’t matter if you have 1,2 or 4 engines. For the times we plan on heading it the Bahamas we can justify a second motor cost. We also only plan on crossing in groups and probably never alone. Thanks for the comment! 🤙

Multiple engine boats have multiple fuel tanks. Both engines are usually completely separate from each other. Including the electrical systems. At least mine is. @@perfectfitboating

Not necessarily. Our boat originally had twin motors and just one fuel tank. And Many twin engines come with single fuel tanks. I’ve seen applications like the ones you state but maybe more so in the bigger boats that have the space for two fuel tanks. 🤙

I got my boat fitted with 2 completely separate fuel systems(ignition, fuel lines, tanks and batteries). Yes it cost a bit but the peace of mind when going offshore.@@perfectfitboating

These are basically Weekenders I have a Searay 215 weekender at 22 feet and it is quite comfortable but a little bigger would be nice.

We really like those searays in the 24ft range. You get tons of space and it’s very comfortable to stay overnight. 🤙

I grew up on Cuddy Cabin boats. I am becoming a fan of the pilot house boats. They fit the needs I have to stay on the water for days and scuba dive. Thanks for sharing. I am in Myrtle Beach SC and they didnt have anything like those at our local boat show.

The older I get the more comfort I’d like in a boat. I absolutely love a pilot house boat. Maybe one day we’ll have one. We don’t get many showings down here for them. We’re going to have to take a trip to New England or the pacific north west to see what’s out there. Thank you for commenting!

I own the Solara 25 CW. It is a fantastic boat and fantastic company. I had a Ranger Tug R27. It was a beautiful boat. I wanted to downsize so switched to Solara. Get the Solara!!

I thought the 29' with dual motors clicked all the boxes you were looking for. The problem with the Solara is you can't get to the bow unless you go through the front bunk.

You can it’s just a walk around style. It had grab rails to hold on to. It’s compromise so it had alot more space because it doesn’t have the pilot house style construction. We really liked that 29’ too though. Lots of space! Thanks for the comment! 🤙

Great video, captain now what I took from the video. Those boats require so much maintenance. Just think about it when you come back from fishing for probably 3 to 4 days spending some time in it. You'll be a slave cleaning those boats. So you can keep your value on those boats and the price Are very high. I know they have a lot of equipment but most of it. It is not needed for spending a couple of days out there. That's my opinion, captain. Maybe if you're retired , you'll be able to use that boat more often , but as young Ask you and your wife are You won't probably have the time to spend weeks in the Bahamas too often. My suggestion is keep enjoying the boat you have. Which is paid for and later. I'm moving to something a little bit more comfortable Something that doesn't break the bank. Because trust me in the past about boats and I regret purchasing them the long run but the one I have now is not big but it does the job. Even if is crooked LOL.

Cap you are absolutely right. We won’t be changing boats anytime soon. And if we do decide to upgrade, it won’t be much bigger but maybe something with a better cabin like a pilot house. Youre totally right. A lot of the features on these boats aren’t totally necessary. I’m a big fan of keeping it simple. The more crap you have the more likely it is to break. And you are so right about having to clean it. Imagine coming back from a trip and having to spend 2 days cleaning all these extra things! Thanks for commenting cap! 🤙

Its amazing how much functional, useable space and amenities boat manufacturers are and have been able to build into boats under 30ft. Im sure I may be mistaken but it looks like American boat companies have finally gotten wise and started getting creative with how they package their boats like the European and Scandinavian boat companies do. Everything from sliding and folding seats integrated either into a window or serving as a double purpose sink and grill. Its great to see. Cool video guys! Could we maybe get more of what the outside of the boat looks like, at least briefly, before you give a quick onboard walthrough? Thanks!

Quicksilver is the lubrication line for Mercury. Like moter oil, gear oil. Bayliner is owned by Brunswick Marine Group which also owns Sea Ray and other lines of boats. Also Mercury Marine.

It’s not just the lubrication line for Mercury. They make boats like the quicksilver pilot house 605 that’s is the same boat as the trophy. This is from their website “Quicksilver boats are manufactured in Brunswick's own factories, but for the European market several models are produced under license from Balt-Yacht shipyard, which is located in Poland.”

I bought Cutwater 248 a few months ago…..love it! It’s the same as Solara 25 for $20k less. The solara just has a few more luxury touches………but the Cutwater is very nicely dressed up in the interior 👍 You also might want to check out a Jeanneau NC 895…….made by Beneteau

@@perfectfitboatingI’m loving the Cutwater. I’m 6’3” in bare feet and it’s the only boat that size I can stand up in the cabin. The Jeaneau was very plain interior wise. Cutwater is nicer. I get a ton of compliments at my marina

The 1st boat you looked at (with the 9’6 beam) requires special permits to tow it. If the beam is 8’6, no special permit is required.

@perfectfitboating Up to 8'6" no permit is required. Up to 11 feet, an oversized load permit and banner are required. Over 11 feet, a permit, banner, and pilot cars are required. That's in Washington. Other jurisdictions may vary.

I purchased a cutwater 248. I love it. Ordered it the way I thought I wanted. I should not have gotten the lithium ion batteries. They will not run the AC very long at all. I purchased a $300 generator that works perfectly. I should’ve got auto pilot instead of lithium ion. How tall are you again? Lol! Good video.

Man we love those cut waters! And I figured the lithium batteries might not be worth it. That’s why I mentioned the generator I think it’s a better option. And yes, I mention my height quite a bit 🤣. Thanks you guys! I was really wanting to see that 29 Explorer. At $245k, it's a little above my budget, but still close enough to make me strive harder to raise my budget. But I'll likely just have wait til next year and buy a used one that someone else took the biggest hit on. Lol And maybe interest rates will go back down a little by then. 🤞

We did another video on the best family boats under 60k. There was a couple good deals and some decently outfitted boats. The show huge so it was hard to film everything. We only made it to the convention center and that took all day. Between networking and filming what we filmed our day was gone. Next year im going to try and film for two days to get more footage. 🤙

The challenge with static boat shows is that you get the impression of space of the boat, but not true comfort and usability. The ridability and hull design is key to enjoyment on the ocean. I ended up buying the Axopar 28 (the predecessor to the 29 in this video) - it arrived in January. In some ways I feel that is a better version, with a separate compartment for toilet only. It can still sleep 2+2 as you can use cabin seats folded down as a flat bed. The huge win with an Axopar is the ride. It cruises 28-35 knots in comfort even with some sea. It is outstanding for water toys. It is good (but not optimised) for fishing. It is good for day boating with friends, although I would like a wider bow for socialising space. All boats have their advantages. To get on the ocean with kids/friends doing all types of activities, the Axopar won for me. 😊

Ride is definitely a huge factor when it comes down to buying a boat and the actual usability when out on the water. I’d definitely recommend anyone looking to spend this amount of money on a boat to spend some time on the water with them. 🤙

I set my standards by a 1987-89 268 Searay Sundancer. With a 454/Mercruiser out drive. A lot cheaper, about 48-50 mph WOT. If I had the money to buy any of the boats you showed, I’d still get the sea ray.

Those old sea rays are sweet boats and definitely a bargain! I think if you can find a clean one and even convert it to outboard you’ll have a sweet ride for a great deal! 🤙

Nice video , We didn't make it to Miami this year . Two things that you should compare is Warranty ( get detailed information ) and Fiberglass layup . Is the hull being made with new techniques ? ( resin infusion / vacuum bagging , epoxy resin etc ) . Most manufacturers are building thinner hulls these days , Old school techniques can have issues . That’s very true! You know we tried to find a directory of what manufacturer was going to be at the show and they didn’t have a list anywhere. We literally went in blind. But you make a great point because those are huge selling factors. Many companies skimp on the glass to save money and their hulls are very thin. Thanks for the comment 🤙

Bayliner , Quicksilver is all part of Brunswick Marine who also owns Searay.

Bayliner is a Trophy owned by Brunswick who makes aftermarket Merucury engine parts called Quicksilver. Mercury is also owned by Brunswick

Correct. But in Europe, they have a quicksilver line of boats which is the trophy here in the states. It is subbed out and licensed to them.This is from their website "Quicksilver boats are manufactured in Brunswick's own factories, but for the European market several models are produced under license from Balt-Yacht shipyard, which is located in Poland."

At what cost? Other than the Nimbus the rest were around $260k or below. I think the Conquest, nicely optioned is north of $350. I like them but just too expensive for the ordinary persons budget

Did you see any Sea Ray Sundancer's. The 29 foot model is trailerable and is an awesome boat.

No unfortunately we didn’t. Sea Ray only had their big hitters or smaller bow riders. We’re headed to the Palm beach boat show in a week hopefully they’ll have something there we can check out! 🤙

Thr Solara cut water and ranger tug I do believe all come under the same ownership umbrella. 190 plus at least 8 or 9 for a good trailer no generator no solar means shore power for the ac a lot of money keep looking maybe in the slightly used market.

If i remember the second boat is the best , loose the twin out board motors and put a single diesel out board , better fuel economy and put a decent freezer in it same size as the fridge also plumb in Propane great for the oven and stove also a cooker out back 👍its an Australian thing 🙂and its trailerable 🤘yep didn't get to see the last boat properly tho but that looks good too but needs what i said about the second one , would be great live aboards expesily for 1 or 2 people easy , will need lots off solar up top tho and a few batteries inside

You're looking at low end stuff when you could spend your money on something way better slightly used PLUS, that Bayliner will fall apart after a few crossing's trust me. Im finishing a 28 Albemarle outboard conversion that I will be island hopping in. I love the trustworthy Carolina built hulls that are designed for that stuff. Take your time and a "killer" deal will come around soon with this economy. Its a boat buyers dream.

Hey brother thanks for the comment! We’re actually not looking to buy. We enjoy doing these videos to show people what’s available out in the market. We have a Grady 24 offshore and that’s the boat our channel was started off. We also have a 16 zebra flats skiff we’re restoring. But your advice still stands to anyone reading! 🤙

I’m 6 4 I could not fit on a trailerable boat. I would need a 34 to a 36 ft. I need a full head and small galley. A would need a small live aboard . But nice video.

If I remember right, the sea rays at the show that would’ve fallen in this size category were bow riders and anything with a cabin was much bigger. We’re going to another boat show this month, hopefully searay has some of them there we can show! Thanks for the comment! 🤙

Good choice…I am 6’ as well and have metal in my back…stand up head is almost a must have if you are serious about overnighting…shouldn’t have to be a contortionist like most “cuddy/overnight” type layouts

That was a very nice boat too. Just fit and finish wasn’t as close to the solara for the price. Solara did have a 31 ft that was comparable but we thought it was too big for this comparison and THAT blew everything out of the water! Thanks for the comment! 🤙

We talked to someone at the show who seemed high up there in the company and he said with this 300 it’ll get to 50mph 😳. I hear ya though.

That first boat was cool for a day boat. I wouldn't want to sleep inside the cabin, and the head was really small. Boat two was way better. It also cost 100K more. I gave you a sub. Great video.

@@perfectfitboating absolutely agree. I just went on the Bayliner this weekend at a boat show and they fell short. But they copied almost everything to the letter just fell short for sure. I’m just amazed how the layout is exact. The only thing they did was swap toilet and sink in the head.

I’m with you on that Joe! After talking to a lot of manufacturers, the one common thing driving cost of boats up is labor. But I also have suspicions they’re keeping prices higher on purpose. 🤙

You’re right about that. This line is made by another company under the trophy name. It’s a polish company. So it’s really a European boat. I don’t know much about the quality of them.

We like that boat a lot. One of the channels we follow “ adventures of happy ours” have one. I don’t think that one was at the boat show though. I may be wrong but if I remember correctly they had the big dogs at the show and some bow riders. That would’ve been a great choice tbh. Thanks for the comment! 🤙

Not many for sales around me, especially used ones. I think the first year they made it was 2019. It appears to be a copy of Express but with an outboard engine. Hopefully in a couple more years used ones will start showing up in volume.

I bought a high performance boat in the late nineties. 30 foot twin with cuddly under neath. Was around 140 thousand. Twin engines. We did overnight in it a few times. They are just meant for daytime flying around. The boats you are looking at today are much more effective for family outings. And those prices are comparable to what I bought. Hey boats are expensive toys. You do need a truck with 4 wheel drive to tow it mainly to get it up the ramp when pulling it out. So include another 50 thousand for that.

Only pricy in the US, the importer jacks up the price. And it’s not a 60 mph boat with twins, they are twin 200’s, not 300’s. You can do a single 400, makes it a mid 50’s boat.

The issue I have is the Axopar seems more of a day boat that can do some limited overnight. On the other hand the Solara seems more of a true weekend boat that can also be a day boat. I like both options but I have to say that the $60K saving on the Solara seems s hard to ignore.

Bayliner Trophy has been around for a long time, years. Bayliner's line has always been providing a very large amount of room for the size. You don't seem to have to much knowledge of boats though
