I appreciate that Austin told Gideon that he doesnt even joke about cutting anyone with his knife or he will lose that priviledge for a very long time. I find that Austin as a Dad really invests his time and wisdom in his children and teaches them safety. Excellent.

If you teach,ids how to use knifes safe.y they are more capable than you think. But I agree they should be told like Gideon to not even joke about hurting someone.

Exactly! It is a normal part of their development. That is the way they learn at his age. Whoever told you that their babies never put things in their mouths, they are the ones who should have concerns. Love your little family. To think you were not too much older than Gideon when I first saw you on television. 😂.

Two yr olds is the oral stage of development. All kids do that. Nice wooden knife for Gideon. I am happy Gideon cooked steaks and played with the kids to give you a break. Very sweet and thoughtful. Be careful with those little and big eyes. Not good to look directly at sun. Best to see photos. God Bless, sweetest babies and kids!❤🎉😊✝️💟🌅🙏💖🎈🎊

Austin is a great sport after working extra long hours he still has loving patience with the "cling on kids" lol. Poor Austin can't catch a break! and he still helps Gideon with putting his knife together. Glad to hear Austin explain very clearly how we don't cut anyone and not even joke about it. Aw! "your my best Gideon ever" Evy is precious. Gideon looked so handsome with his new haircut. What a neat experience for the kids to observe the eclipse.

I love seeing Austin spend quality time with the kids and he seems to be getting more comfortable with being in front of the camera!! You made a very wise choice in staying home instead of traveling to the path of totality!! The heavy traffic would possibly have been too much for the kids to handle and there's that chance of someone getting lost in the crowd!! There's another eclipse coming through Arkansas in 2045 and your family will still be young enough to enjoy it!!

Hi! I’m a Speech Language Pathologist and yes, it is totally normal for babies to put things in their mouths! Try to provide safe toys for them to chew on! This is a way for them to learn about textures, weight, and size!! As long as the toy is a safe size for them and (relatively 😉) clean, let them learn by mouthing the object!! ❤

Before everyone starts pouring on the hysteria, let's look more closely at the details.😅 At 6:24, Joy holds up the package in front of the camera, and it clearly states, Canoe Knife Kit- Wooden Pocket Knife Kit. It is not a real metal knife with a sharp blade, it also states, appropriate for ages 7+ and the perfect way to teach knife safety. Not saying it could'nt hurt someone if used inapprpropriately, but both Austin and Joy warned him of this several times. Just in case you missed it.

I have worked with kids my whole life and I am almost 60. Kids put everything in their mouths especially when they are teething. Kids with autism might put stuff in their mouths later in life also or lick stuff. Its pretty normal. I think its great you are working with him about the sucking the thumb thing to get rid of the habit. Great parents :)
@brandic3612

Exactly right! It could be teething, exploration of the world around them, and it's a positive sign of development. If they're not doing it I'd worry, and encourage it on some level by buying teethers or something, at least the 1st yr of life.

I don't think that its to soon to teach Gideon responsibility. Years ago kids had to do a lot of grownup jobs. Taught young kids are more aware of their responsibilities. Kids that sit in front of TVs or Ninetendo units are not taught the basics of living & working. Good going Forsythe 's. Great parenting guys.

I have allergies+ sympathize with Gideon. One tip I have done for years is I change my pillowcase every morning to a clean one. I don't open windows especially the week trees open up. A Dr on a tv segment I saw this week said to rinse your hair every night. As bad as Gideons are I would wash hair every night. Your family seems to be outdoors alot so that should help some. Of course you probably have some med products that help alleviate. I use Claritin + Flonase spray. I also invested in the Navage I found at CVS. Even a clean cold wash rag over his eyes for a few seconds would be soothing. I hope he outgrows his allergies. Good luck. Gran of 5

Hats off to you. I need kids in bed before 8 thirty pm !!! For sanity’s sake. Austin seems to have a lot more calm and patience - or perhaps we just never had chance to see that side before. I will be honest; it used to seem like Joy did all the home/kid work along with a lot of other things. And it also sometimes seemed like Austin didn’t speak to her gently … things have seemed a lot more relaxed lately. And Austin participates more? maybe I’m off on that. But I’m happy for Joy if that is the case and everyone has patience and respect for each other. I know we are only ever seeing a snapshot of anyone’s life online. But my sense is that what we are seeing is the real deal - be it good or hard. Also - those water tables are the BEST thing for little kids - hours of outside fun!!! And it absolutely is a phase of young childhood to put things in their mouths!!! Glad the dentist is helping kick the thumb sucking. It really can mess up their teeth etc. Positive reinforcement is the best way to go!!!! ☮️

Kids often put things into their mouth to gage the texture and hardness of objects . It’s a normal thing to do at Gunner’s age . He can’t talk yet to ask you these questions so his mouth is used as a “curiosity tool”. As he grows , he will learn to use his hands and when he’s words are formed , then those questions will follow .
