I used to be terrified of this movie. I had dreams where I'd be abducted by Mrs. Tweety. She'd take me through a painting at the end of a hallway, then there would be a cut to me in her oven with her eyes up against the glass window. This would repeat with only a few subtle changes almost every night for months on end. You'd think it was because they're clay, but it was because they're British.

Fun Fact: Before Rocky came along, Fowler was the only rooster in the entire chicken farm, and the chickens were obviously laying eggs. So it's no surprise that all the chickens swooned over Rocky, he was the first rooster that wasn't old they had seen in who knows how long.

As a country boy that was terrorized by a rooster and his hens as a kid...yes, chickens definitely fly. I don't care what anyone says, the core memory of being sniped by chicken talons is ingrained.

This movie came out the year I was born, of course I cannot remember the month that it came out but I do remember watching it once or twice as a kid and it terrified me. And here I am, 23 years later... Watching it again, but this time with drunk commentary 😂

Late to the party but Chicken Run is basically the child-friendly(ish) version of The Great Escape (1963) which is about Allied troops in a German POW camp during WWII. And when I say basically, I mean that's exactly what it is. Chicken Run actually started as a spoof of The Great Escape before it became it's own story as production continued. Ginger with her ball in the bunker, the escape attempts - particularly the tunnel shown at the start of the movie, the music, even certain characters semi-mimic original characters or at least some of their characteristics. I highly recommend The Great Escape anyway, its absolutely brilliant, but it's really interesting to watch both films with the similarities in mind!

It took me like a decade after initially watching this movie as a kid to realize it was a Holocaust allegory. Edit: Oookay the fact Mel Gibson is in this just makes it twice as weird

I haven’t watched this film drunk but I have watched it absolutely stoned and the film freaked me the fuck out when high. I just kept asking why the chickens were wearing clothing and why the humans hadn’t noticed

Regardless of whether the sequel will end up being good or bad, it just won’t have the dark tones this had. The farm is literally modelled after a Nazi PoW camp after all.

as a kid this movie made me want to stop eating chicken because I thought this is how farms worked. I now know that this is sort of how factory farms work. Moral of the story I still eat chicken. But it’s from my gruncles farm so I have a completely clean conscious 🤘

This was such a great commentary! I loved getting to watch you guys do this one live, it was really fun and entertaining to get to see. This commentary was just really funny and the humor in it was just so amazing. Every running gag and joke were really funny, it felt like they got even funnier each time you brought one back. It’s so funny because your reaction for Mel Gibson was the same reaction I had when I found out that Zachary Levi was in playing the role of the rooster now. 😆 He’s pretty bad himself like weirdly Wanon and anti vax and he’s also known to be a jerk to his costars on set so in a few years he might be in the same boat Mel is.

One time when I was a kid my mom worked at the ywca and there was a kids room I was locked in with my sister that had this movie playing and when it was over we were stuck on the DVD select screen and didn't know how to turn it off. It was hell. Still like the movie though and I still have the DVD.

For some reason i had blocked parts of this movie from my memory. For example the part where the woman gets trapped upside down in the metal gravy container and the boiling liquid rises, pressumingly boiling her alive before the pressure becomes too much and explodes. Wonder why.
