Damn, that Cruiser is as old as me. Edit* I think you should do a canopy style build for this one, it will look cool and you would have practical storage for secure transportation of what you take with you on a trip.

In 1985 I had a 1983 fj40. And then I bought a 1973 fj40 because I'm too tall for the fj45 but those suckers are cool. When I was over in Australia they had the Diesels. That 1983 fj40 would go through Louisiana mud with bald tires. If you ever get a chance to come down here to Louisiana you'll understand our mud. It laughed at Jeeps
