I've hand poked people and it is bizarre. You can tell the person is in pain but you have to keep going. When you ask them if they want to take a break, they say no because they want to finish asap. Very weird sensation to voluntarily inflict pain on people.

Emi M how long does it last, ive heard some last two years and others say it lasts last longer, i want one but i only for a ~long~ temporary time (if that makes sense)

erin brown for my heart I did one “layer” and then a month later touched up any areas that weren’t dark enough. It’s been almost a year and it’s still visible and looks great. If you want a lighter more “temporary” look, use a smaller needle and do shallow pokes. The larger the needle and deeper you go, the more permanent it gets

I have 7 tattoos on my body, all stick'n'pokes done by myself. They're still tattoos, so they aren't "temporary". They're there forever. BUT, if you do one or two layers of ink (that's if you're using a thinner needle than the one this artist in the video is using), then it'll cover less and be a faint outline. I have one that I gave up on (I use a smaller needle that needs several layers done to get a solid line) because it was taking too long. So that's just a faint outline that's not noticeable unless pointed out or looked at closely.

Tristen MT it’s a stick and poke it’s not gonna look like a tattoo done by a machine or look more professional even when done by a professional it’s more personable. I have a lot of tattoos, both arms sleeved, chest, feet, hands, legs the stick and poke tattoos that I have look good but not near like the ones done with a machine but they do not hurt at all a little pinch here and there that’s it and then it stings like sunburn for a few hours afterwards. I have quite a few. They’re as clean as you keep them needles clean everything but like a tattoo done by a machine if you don’t take care of it it’ll get infected. Just remember man it’s other people’s bodies and whatever they want they can get they aren’t as bad as blackout tattoos haha

Some handpoke artists are amazing and handpoking allows for but also requires for you to be more precise than artists with a gun. A lot of artists do have home studios but usually they’re similar to other people who run their business out of their home and they reserve that area solely for their tattooing but it gives in a more comfortable feel since it’s so time consuming. I don’t feel this artist really showed the craft really well, which is more on buzzfeed than anything else. Handpoking is expensive and they likely went cheap which lowers the quality of the craft they want to portray which is shameful to me just because it can be so intricate and beautiful because it’s done with such tiny needles by hand and people don’t often get to see that soft elegant side of tattoos that can be achieved and be stunning and professional

It all depends. I've been to shops that I walked out of because of cleanliness, and I've had body mods done in homes where everything was obviously sterile and clean.

With a talented artist, quality material, and plenty of time it should look zero percent different it it were done by hand pokes or if it were done with a gun.
