This is how I get my hens to not be broody anymore. Its actually pretty easy. I almost get stung in the process by a bunch of devil red wasp! Keeping It Dutch P.O. Box 492 Pryor Ok, 74362

For all who are concerned about the fly spray hurting the hen....she is perfectly fine..watch the video..the wind blows the spray away and it didn't even kill the wasp, they all flew off as well. Thank you for your concerns but she is doing just fine!
@bashkillszombies6 жыл бұрын
Never get cocky about the safety of chemicals, or think something is 'perfectly fine' just because it appears at a glance to be so. After DDT, Agent Orange, thalidomide, etc, I'd think this would be common sense by now. Ten seconds preparation would have mitigated all of this.
@steakandeggscynthiar.77146 жыл бұрын
You probably know this but if you don't kill all the wasp (red one are bad about this) they will come back and start a new nest.
@KeepingItDutch6 жыл бұрын
@@bashkillszombies im not being cocky at all, so I dont know why you would say that. Its been 3 days, the fly spray hasnt killed my hen...like I said, the wind to the spray away I thought that was obvious from the video itself, its very visible. Have a nice day.

Attacked by wasps ✔️ Death grip on broody hen while running from wasps ✔️ Death grip on broody hen while spraying/killing wasps ✔️ Impressive I'd say!

I have learned in life that everyone can teach you something, I have taught my son this too. Some will teach you how to do something other will teach you how not to do something. I learned both from you today. I learned how to break a broody hen and I learned that if you are going to put it elsewhere get that place ready first, just in case there is something up with where you want to put that broody hen!
@steakandeggscynthiar.77146 жыл бұрын
That's how we break our broody hens. We use to get wasp building nest in the hen houses, but I sprayed them so many times I hardly ever see them anymore. Glad you didn't get stung. The red one sure can hurt.

We all know you were running and screaming like a little girl to protect the hen and use audible warfare on the ones chasing you... Good thinking... I'd have never thought of the "8 yr old girl defense" but hey... You are quick ! LOL Thanks for sharing !

I wouldn't have put her in that same cage where you just sprayed the wasps. I found out the hard way several years ago that very small amounts of the insecticide used to kill wasps will also kill small farm animals if it accidentally drifts into their water.

See Dutch run! Lol you gotta be quick and clear-headed. I had a muscovy that was broody about 7 months and I was told she would get over it but I got impatient and asked in a Facebook group and they told me to keep destroying the nest. In 3 days she was coming out of it.

Those darn things hurt. I have been stung by those red wasp and yellow jackets. Those evil things got me too many times when I was a kid. The red wasp got in my hair and I didn't know , felt something , reached up to touch my hair and bam, darn thing got me 4 times before my dad could swat it. Then one time when a group of us kids were playing ,some of the boys discovered a nest of yellow jackets. They got the bright idea to start chunking rocks at it, I was at least 15 feet to 20 feet away from where they were , but guess who got stung. Yep me , it's flight path took it straight in my direction and got me right on the side of my face. I thought you dropped the chicken, but nope , still was clutching miss broody hen the whole time.

I was quite impressed that you jumped back, ran like a chicken, and held into that chicken. I kind of expected to see you chasing the chicken around trying to catch her. Hope it works quickly.

I’ve found that popping one of those frozen gel packs underneath her will break her in minutes. You can wrap it in cloth if you’re afraid it might burn her but they’re smarter than you think and will get off the nest in a hurry.

Didn't know you could run so fast Dutch.. lol. Its even better when you step on a Yellow jacket nest in the ground and realize it before you pick your foot up. Then you're stuck there wondering how many are going to come out and how fast you need to run. Not that this has happened to me or anything. :)

Dawn dish liquid or any other dish soap makes an excellent wasp and hornet killer, mix about a table or more in a large cup with water and throw on nest. Amazing how fast we can run when being chased by wasp, I think if they released wasp on pft day I may have run a faster 3 mile.

Best way to break a broody hen is to dunk them in room temp water in a bucket. Only takes two dunks a day apart and then back to normal. I was told it works as a broody hen has increased body temp, after dunking it lowers the body temp.

Hey Dutch, I didn’t call you stupid, putting the chicken in a old wood cage after spraying “fly spray” that probably absorbed every bit of aerosol is not smart in my opinion. However after further review of you video I see the plastic container that was in it appears to be the same one you used to put food into the self feeder and then put water in it and placed into the cage. Don’t get all butt hurt over an opinion. Isn’t the motto on here subscribe, like and COMMENT?
@KeepingItDutch6 жыл бұрын
Lol like a told a lady before, I rinsed the bowl out before I used it for food and water! I guess i just need to show every step of everything I do. When making videos a lot of stuff gets edited out or not even recorded. The hen is doing great, the fly spray has had no visible signs of hurting my hen. I guess I could take her to thr vet to get blood work on her..Its comments like yours and others that make me not want to even make videos sometimes. Just to have to deal with people thinking they know everything. But I choose to make videos for people so I choose to deal with the other side of it. Thanks for your comment even if we dont agree, have a great rest of the day. Stay safe.
