@@SherpasDay We had a very scary moment a few years back while Dog sledding with our dogs. A big GSD came running at us out of a yard, and was off leash. We were on the multi use trail with 3 of our dogs attached to a sled, and this massive dog came at us. This was when Shelby was still around, and I just started yelling to her to Hike and Trail to try to get her moving. I had nothing. . . no mace . . nothing to stop this dog from coming at us. Thankfully, Shelby must have known what I was saying, because she listened so well. After what felt like forever, the dog finally turned around . We have never returned to that trail.

Jamie, I’m REALLY proud of you for protecting Sherpa! Here in America, a lot of people expect their dogs to protect them, and I’m sure Sherpa would if a PERSON tried to hurt you, but Sherpa was smart to know he needed you to handle this one. Also, I’m getting teary-eyed thinking about what you did to protect Sherpa - out of pure love (and SERIOUS bravery!). I did a quick search on how to stop a horse attack, and the “answers” were unhelpful. I was thinking you could ask a vet, the RSPCA and the police. You are the man!

Horses are never nasty. Sherpa just had the misfortune of running into a horse away from its heard who's reaction makes me think that it may have had a bad experience with dogs at some point. Dogs and horses are quite similar in the fact that they don't tend to be aggressive but they can get quite defensive when they feel threatened. I know poor Sherpa but was scared to death, but that horse was scared to death of Sherpa too. I'm just grateful that nothing bad happened to any of them. I can't believe he shoulder check the horse! You walked out of their territory. My horse has disliked 2 people. She would not let me anywhere near either one of them. She blocks me in the corral. My dog and horse never got along. Both overly protective of me. I had to put my dog down on Thursday. She was 18. Still have my horse. But my heart and house are empty. With Melody, I tell people to get off her paths if she runs and get out of her "house" territory. She was abused before I took her. When she used to come at me In the beginning I had to stand my ground and prove trust. Scared the crap out of me, but with her respect we couldn't be closer. Same with my puppy. Will miss her forever, a house without a dog is not a home. Friday was the first day since I built the house, I've been without a dog. I had all my blankets in the morning, it was strange. Sorry for rambling. Thank you for protecting Sherpa. Looking bigger works with bears,I guess it works with horses too. Regarding Sarah... haven't you told her yet that the First National Bank of Dad has gone bust and is now in receivership? As for the picky birds, charge them room and board. But seriously, you might try filling the feeder with black sunflower seeds since they are on strike about the little seeds (millet perhaps?). I like your new curtains. Looks like they will keep out a lot of light when you and your four footed child need a nap during the day...like today after the horse debacle. My best to all of you. Steve

A quick lesson in horse language: Ears pinned flat against the head means get out of the way ( left or right of the horse’s path) and call Batdog. Ears perked ears means something got their attention. One ear perked and the other to the side means they’re relaxed. So pay attention to the horse’s ears next time. You don’t have to carry anything special.

Do you feel this way? For me, the best smell in the world -- next to when my son was still a baby fresh out of a bath and in jammies clean out of the dryer -- is the smell of a horse. There is nothing else like it in the world. I love to stand in front of a horse and press my forehead against theirs -- it's like some kind of ancient communication.

Sherpa did the right thing! You BOTH did the right thing! That’s scary! I’m REALLY glad Sherpa didn’t try to prove anything by attacking the horse. Sherpa was smart and stuck with you (you defended your best buddy really well!). I think you’re right: you and Sherpa bonded over that experience. Sherpa is too old to risk an injury, and even when he was young, he was no match for a horse. In fact, the two of you (you and Sherpa close together) was probably the most intimidating you could be, and flapping the umbrella was brilliant! Maybe you can ask a veterinarian what the best way to scare away a horse - or defend yourself against a horse.

I would ask the mechanic to put a tarp or something over the motor . When you first showed the motor I saw watter dripping into far right manifold hole where the stud broke off. If water keeps dripping into the hole it will rust the cylinder walls if it hasn't started already. It could cause your motor major problems like motor replacement. Just looking out for you and sherpa

Very good point you also would need to vacuum the water out. Outside chance but hopefully none of the rings were worn to allow water to get into the oil. The only time I've ever seen vehicles like that is in areas that get almost no rain or perfectly sunny calm days.

As someone who's worked with horses, I know how scary it can be when you have a herd of horses coming towards you. I'm thinking it may have been a stallion and his mares, since its coming up for breeding season, the stallions would be a lot more aggressive towards other beings. I wouldn't go back up to those moors for a while! Best thing to do in a situation like this is stand your ground, flap your arms (I know it sounds silly, but quick movements are your friend) and yell - If you see a herd of horses, keep your distance, cause most likely they just wanna keep an eye on you and make sure you are not a threat, but if they are to approach, hold your ground. In the horse world, if you move your feet under pressure, your the weaker one. glad you and Sherpa are ok!
