In this vanlife Switzerland travel video, we put our tiny campervan to the test with subzero temperatures. We continue our winter vanlife journey in to the Swiss mountains to Lauterbrunnen, a picturesque Swiss village where we stay at the Jungfrau campsite to survive the cold.
We then try out the hot tug boat to warm up, an incredible way to see lake Brienz (www.captains-cove.ch)
The diesel heater we use is from Autoterm and we love it! Tell them the Travel Beans sent you and they'll give you a discount! planarheaters.co.uk/

⭐ About Travel Beans:
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years - from backpacking to vanlife:
2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!
2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.
2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.
2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
What now?
Over the years, we've discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers - one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You'll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. If you enjoy this kind of content we'd recommend checking out our Italy Road Trip series, USA vanlife series and our Japan in a Tiny Van series as well as our UK vanlife content.
Our time spent overcoming depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. We love sharing the highs and lows of our trips through our videos and hope to spread a little positivity and light to all of the beautiful people who take the time to tune in and watch each week!

It just occurred to me that this channel will be gold as your kids get older. We all get to a point where we're interested in what are parents were like before we were born. What they looked like. In 1977 I was 14 and went on a school/youth club trip to Switzerland. We went to a place called Grindelwald, which is just above Interlaken and right next to the Matterhorn mountain. It has to be one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. It was summertime and there were dozens of really high waterfalls similar to the ones the Beans saw. Big up guys.....

The Matterhorn is well over 75 km (as the crow flies) away from Grindelwald. So you likely either mixed up the mountains or went to see it on a day trip. Next to Grindelwald would be the famous mountain trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

Y’all the the sweetest couple and i love ❤️ watching y’all on you adventures. Ladt😢night i watched many of your video. Some of the ones I enjoyed were visiting the island you had to fly to. Hunting for moose on your hike. Then the next morning one walked past your cabin and Alex was so excited he followed it in his stocking feet 👣! The bone cave and the huge water 💦 fall in two other trips. I also loved watching Emma build out the van by herself with a little help from Alex. This trip to Switzerland is so Kool! No pun intended! The snow hotels, etc adventurers. I ❤y’all

In love RV life in winter, in Florida!! When I go to Florida for January and February, and I feel the nice warm temperatures (especially mid-day) and my phone is showing me the freezing temperatures back home, I am really very, very thankful!! Unfortunately, come the first of March, I have to get back home and collect all of my income tax info to get it to my CPA so he can file it all for me before the deadline! But, but, but, my house is out in the woods and I soon get to watch spring start to break out all over, transforming the forest. A joy to watch every year!!!

You need to carry a small hatchet in your van for making kindling at the campsite. Also you may consider making some fire starters(Prodigy), it is really simple, you need some wood shavings like you would use for pet hamsters/rabbit bedding, sawdust, or dryer lint, then pack the shavings tightly in a silicone mini muffin mold(if your eggs come in paperboard egg cartons those work perfectly too), then melt some paraffin wax using the double boiler method(silicone bowl is best as you cannot get wax off other pans or utensils), then pour the wax over the shavings in each muffin depression and let them cool. This will give you a multitude of small firestarters that will burn for 15+ minutes each to get even damp wood started.

Wow, our family stayed very near to Lauterbrunnen in a campsite in 1971 (I learned to swim without the aid of armbands in a swimming pool in Interlaken which is down the road - was SO proud of myself!). That was nearly 52 years ago, and just saying that makes me feel EXTREMELY old. It sticks in my mind because the campsite was hit by a tornado and a caravan next to us received a direct hit by a flying tree. Mum and dad threw us in the back of the car for safety. I was only 6-years-old at the time, but remember it vividly. Well done to you two for doing it in winter. I'm pretty sure we visited glaciers even in summer of 1971 and experienced 'cold' in summer.

I've been to the Lauterbrunnen Valley twice, one of the most stunning valleys on the planet. Its the background pic on my desktop :) The view from the rail station at Wengen up on a "shelf" above the valley is....😍

Emma and Al, JUst checked on Amazon and there are many propane heaters that you could use to help out with the cold. Many use a propane tank (1 pound) and don't required electricity.

We go camping in a Robins cabin 300 tent in winter so a van is pure luxury by comparison. As long as you have the right gear you can be comfortable in most climates excepting the absolute extremes.

OMG The views in this video took my breath away. One of your most spectacular to date. Thank you for lighting up my day, as always. I'm so happy for you guys. No, I wouldn't camp in winter unless forced to, but, THE BOAT! Definitely! Thanks also for addressing our worries about your pregnancy and hot tubs, hot springs, etc. I was a bit worried, but, felt confident you would never be irresponsible with your little bean. Big love to the 3 of you!🥰

I loved Lauterbrunnen, one of the quintessential Swiss valleys. And yes, it is a bit like the main valley in Yosemite, I totally get what you mean. BTW was the waterfall inside the cliff (Trummelbach??) open - well worth a visit, amazing.
